Most people drive the same car nowadays, new cars.... it just came to a point that I wanted a car that stands out among the common. And could keep up cruising with them. There’s nothing to fill up the void than having an 80’s car, most people thought its a typical family saloon because it was mass produced during the 80’s fuel crisis. given a thought, it was like a kind of people’s car in the Philippines back in the 80’s…
People do not know in the land of the rising sun this is a performance saloon and what was mass produced in the Philippines was a detuned version that only had similar looks but not its functionality …
.
it was my high school dream having to own a Mitsubishi Lancer EX turbo Japan spec. As I have seen back in the 80’s how this car made famous winning rallies and touring car races across Asia (Japan, Macau, and Europe).
Because Mitsubishi brand has always been good with their Racing heritage as well as their Rival European counterpart…
I set up a goal in my career life that one day I would own one. Even in the stock configuration of this Retro Performance Sedan.
Making friends at a Mitsubishi car club, I met a friend and mentor who have guided me on where and how to build and restore a Japan spec. Lancer EX turbo.
Coincidentally I am a Filipino base inHong Kong. I was told I could find this in a Hong Kong salvage yard, meeting Hong Kong car enthusiast, I finally found the car that I've been dreaming of…
made the purchase and had all parts removed and shipped to the Philippines…restored up and running, 5 years ago
which is now one of rarest car running in the Philippines ( not a garage queen).
while there's still 50 or more of this carbureted local version still roaming around the Philippines…
I think there is only about less 10 of this Japan specs Lancer EX turbo in the country that actually drives and my car is one of them still running as good as how it was built 32 years ago.
Can’t compare to its fuel consumption which is a mere 12 km per liter sometimes less but the fun and experience driving this Retro Mitsubishi Lancer EX Turbo is an experience you can never get with any modern car.
the smell of boosting fuel fusion with the upholstery and interior panels, the feel of rear wheel drive torque engine vibrations engine powertrain transferring to the gearbox and to the limited slip differential, the box shape aerodynamic swooshing in the windshield. all these senses you cannot get in a modern-day ride. because of this car, this became a platform of the modern day Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions….
I was told by my mentor friend to hoard parts for this car like the injectors, original wiring harness, spare engine and computer boxes… so I can make this car running even when I have grandkids…which is exactly my plan..as I am not selling this car and will be passed on to my families next generation who had interest owning driving this retro car and to the point in life that I would be
sharing the “ Retro-bution “ experience…..
