Come with us, as we compare the KarwendelSpitze peak to the Zugspitze. This may not quite me Germany's highest peak, but is it worth visiting?

The Mexico Robert Foster here. On the Zugspitze you can take the big tram to the summit house, spend awhile there, then take another smaller gondola down a short ways to the ski area base lodge and upper train station area. From there you can explore the area a bit on foot on easy trails with great views and few to no precipices, depending of course on the trails you choose. There is also a good sized restaurant in this area. I recommend a variable round trip thusly: Take the tram up to the summit, as you did. Then go down a bit to the ski base and upper train station. Then at the end of the day takethe train back down to Eibsee and on to Garmisch. Although another great option if time allows is to get off the train awhile and rent a paddle boat to float serenely around on the crystal clear Eibsee. A wonderfully relaxing way to "come down" from the heights.

Hello Mexican Robert Foster! We've actually covered the Zugspitze in a much earlier video! :D I particularly liked the igloo hotel. Still haven't visited Eibsee beyond pointing at it from the Zugspitze gondola. One day :D Thanks for the info.

I have been to the Zugspitze twice and like it very much. Good for the "older" (I'm 72 now) traveler who wants the views, but wants to be on the safe side.

Definitely! That’s a huge plus for me about the Zugspitze; the views and overall structure they built up there is incredible, and almost anyone can go and visit easily.

Thanks so much for this video - it enabled me to fit a fantastic Alps mini-hiking trip into an afternoon from Munich, rather than racing to the Zugspitze. A special experience. I would not have thought of trying Mittenwald otherwise.

Visited zugspitze in the winter of 2010. I was planning a summer trip to stay in Eibsee with my family for a week. We will definitely go to karwendel/Mittenwald

We followed a ski trail (in summer) down the back side that ended up near the army barracks in Mittenwald.....we didn't have hiking poles, but I would recommend having them....it's like walking down a steep slope on marbles. Beautiful views, though.

I had my xmas day dinner in the restaurant at the peak of the Karwendel about 5 years ago - Sauerkraut und Wurst! It was great. Too cold to go out for more than a few seconds though. Mittenwald is beautiful.

Hey, Thanks for the video brother. To be honest I thought its a hiking video. But it was worth watching it though. I am traveling there myself tomorrow and hope to see an amazing view up there. I watched your Garmisch Partnachklamm video and went there a week after. Great content and keep it up. Hope to see more amazing videos from you in the future. And you got one more subscriber. :D :D

Thanks! Unfortunately, we just don't have enough time to do the hike up to the Karwendelspitze AND film. :( However, we're probably going to return at some point to try. Glad you find the videos helpful. That's exactly what we are going for. :)

@@NearFromHome I can totally understand your situation. But, It was a great tour video overall brother( just keep it up and do not stop). And I returned back today from a hike up there( took hell lot of time but it was worth it . Once we reached, guys decided to head back using gondola ). And, since you are more of a mountain -lover, i would recommend that you plan a hike in the Bavarian region only and ask all your subscribers to join you( one who is in Germany or nearby state). It Would be great. " Just contemplate over it for a while and let us know. :D. Night.

You need to go to a place on the other side of the Karwendelspitze, the Achensee. If you go in summer, you can catch a steamtrain from Jenbach and then take the ferry across the lake (largest in the Tirol). There is fantastic hiking around that area, and lots of lovely little lakeside towns to enjoy.
@NearFromHome

So many people have recommended Achensee! This is the first I'm hearing of a steam train. We really need to go. :)
@cookiesareakatherinefood

@@NearFromHome You do! The steam train runs from Jenbach station up to the lakeside. However it only runs from April 29 to October 29 this year.

Great videos and content. I have to tell you that is was not very German of you to not be on a really early train to Mittenwald. Everyone needs to know the earlier you get to all of these places the better as Germans love hiking on epic weather days. I wouldnt have left any later than the 07:30 train in fact the 06:32 train with a nice Frühstück in town would have been epic. It would have allowed you to have lunch up there and still make it across town to the Mountain Carts, the Kranzberg Sessellift and the Kranzberg Gipfel Hütte After a snack here you can walk down along the lake and to the Lainbach Wasserfall on your way back into town. I would love to meet up in Munich sometime. Keep up the great work from your friends at The Thirsty Historian.

Not gonna lie. That indeed is a far more German suggestion for the itinerary, lol. Unfortunately, you will never catch me on a 6:32 train :) and of course! I’d be happy to grab a beer. Instagram is probably the best way to coordinate it.

A first time visitor is going to love any of this ja? Any of this in Bavaria looks super but again for the "BEST" of mountains in Europe seems to me to be in Switzerland! Period! Then Austria? Italy then Germany? All of them are super for us first timers. 😊

You felt "less safe" on the Panorama hike? How treacherous is it? I hike local mountains here in New England. Is it the trail on the edge? especially in the leftover snow? I will be there in late June 2024. - Rod
@NearFromHome
@NearFromHome 4 ай бұрын
Ben is very afraid of heights. Some of the trail on the Karwendel is narrow with drops. When we went in the spring there was still some snow on the trail, which made ben nervous. If it was properly dangerous, I think something would be done. I would say, its best to wear hiking boots. When we hiked in the Appalachians, we never needed boots, we always wore running shoes.

I would say unfortunately, basically none. Gondolas close quite early, so unless you took the first Zugspite ride up the mountain, rushed around, rushed back down, and rushed to Mittenwald, I don't know if it would work. :/ If you're having trouble deciding where to visit, you could always watch our Mittenwald video to get an idea of what the town offers!

guess what, you can also walk to the top ;) and no bragging or hating here but if someone used the cable car he wasn't really "on the mountain" in my opinion :D actually great price point aswell, hiking to the top doesn't cost a single penny. well, jokes aside, I for myself just don't see the charm of spending up to a 100€ for sitting in trains and other cramped up spaces all day just to then stand in between hundreds of people starring into the abyss or on the mountains meaningless for a few minutes. I do however really appreciate your videos and quite enjoy watching them. and tbh, supporting you will draw even more people from abroad into our crowded little mountains but I kinda have to for a great job done 😂

Thanks for the info! I more or less agree, but unfortunately there's no way we would have enough time to get to the base of the mountain from Munich, hike up, explore, hike down, and film everything. :( We're planning on going back off camera to do a lot of these free no gondola hikes. But, if if it isn't filmed, did it really happen? xO

Not at least the last time I was there. They do have some storage lockers, but the quantity is very very limited. I’ve gotten away with it though each time with a bit of luck. If that doesn’t work, my go to trick is always simply to walk to the closest hostel or hotel as they usually are happy to help.
