The Position Gradient component is a powerful layer that generates a gradient on your geometry, giving you the perfect mask for effects such as dirt coming from the bottom of your mesh, stylized gradients and so much more.

The mixer fundamentals series is exactly what I needed to get started with this. It's really helpful to get introduced to these bite size tutorials since the tool has an overwhelming amount of options to tweak around with, especially when factoring in the megascans library.

Thanks so much for all these fundamental videos! It really great to look at just one component at a time. The examples of how it can be put to use to achieve different results are just what I need. Excellent. Thankyou. Looking forward to more. I always look forward to quixel tutorials!

neat! found out that youtube creates an automatic link if you write the current time of the video here in the comments. My favorite part of the video is on 5:22 - the map component.

I was wondering how do you view a mask by itself? Like the Alt+Left click on Photoshop. But realized that he used a shortcut to toggle it.... bad move to do that in an intro tutorial. Bit confusing! For anybody else wondering, you can isolate a map using the drop-down list in the top left corner, under Viewport. It's usually set to PBR Metalness to start off with. You can also use the keyboard numbers as shortcuts to toggle it, Layer Mask = 9. Like pressing the B button in Substance Painter.

3:49 - how do you enter mask mode? - it's in the first dropdown menu in the viewport tab.

I don't know. I find Josh's videos feel rushed cutting several moments out, taking shortcuts like he's trying to leave work and beat rush hour traffic. I am new and have read the full Mixer 2020 Manual and this video is not helping me. Over the course of raising a month long technical support ticket with Quixel I managed to texture paint custom models and painfully manually import them into Bridge to use with Unreal Engine. I love what they are doing here but Beta updates are very very slow for Mixer! So wish I could bake inside Mixer too. At least they are finally getting some tutorial videos up. I wouldn't mind some written tutorials so that I can match what they are using with what I see. It's a little annoying having to try to locate the materials used in a video without explanation. The Worn Plastered Wall looks nothing like what I found, mine was brightly washed out matching his Pisa lighting.
