Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait I just realized the little girl with blue eyes and white semi long hair was Clay when she was a kid, and she was a lesbian so everybody (in the scene girls) was saying "clay kissed me that is so gross." Since it traumatized her Clay started to live as a man, and met Kalmia. She fell in love with her and realized Kalmia is trying to use her but decided to be used for Kalmia because (maybe) Kalmia was the first one who loved Clay as a Clay, or pretended to, regardless of Clay's gender. Even though she knew Kalmia actually didn't love her, Clay wasn't able to resist the happiness that comes from relationship with Kalmia. Thus Clay gives up everything, including pretending to be a man and hiding that she is a lesbian, in order to make Kalmia escape from the jail. Lol just came up in my mind immediately.

i noticed the similiarity between clay and the mint-eyed woman in kalmia's backstory. And i saw glimpse of mother protecting her child reflected on that woman's eyes when she staring deeply at kalmia.
