Hello there! This is my first reaction to #blueeyesamurai season 1 episode 1! In this episode, we are introduced to Mizu, a woman of mixed white and Japanese blood. This makes her a disgrace to society, so she hides her blue eyes and the fact she's a woman. Her very existence is taboo and has led to her seeking revenge on her father. There are only 4 men it could be and she will not stop until they're dead. But the path she's chosen is dangerous. I'm excited to find out how her legend unfolds and how she overcomes these challenges!

The symbol on her arm represents the four men, cause ones gone she added a dot, if she klls another one she’ll add another dot, hope that helped!:)

Lol You may have read it wrong but you named the period correctly. I think the fights were a combination leaning more towards drawn. They were all choreographed and filmed by the stunt team and animated from that. With regards to the themes, they actually explore both males and females struggling within the strict confines of social system. They just do it very deftly. As for a strong female protagonist, Mizu is a very well written one. She is not gay, however. The show does manage to play with "gender roles". I think in some ways Akemi is a mirror to Mizu, though many things could be said of that first shot between the two. One other thing to remember as you watch, the writers understand the power of The Unreliable Narrator when it comes to story telling. Season 2 has already been green lit, so prepare for a very enjoyable watch. Side info: It's written by a husband and wife duo. He wrote Logan and Blade Runner 2049 among other things. The story is based on the nickname they gave their daughter when she was a baby. The wife is of mixed Japanese heritage so it really was a labor of love, and really shows it in my opinion.

I appreciate the detailed comment! I was going back and forth on whether the action scenes were mocap or hand animated because they had signs of both, but animating off reference footage would explain that. I had thought I heard the two creators were husband and wife, but I forgot to mention it. And I love that detail about their daughter, very cute. I’m glad their labor of love has been getting a lot of positive reception.

Another one for the algorithm lol. I'm really happy to see more people reacting to it, it really does deserve the hype. Another thing to keep in mind is that they do a lot of subtle storytelling. Two examples in EP 1 are : 1) We see Mizu make her mark on the kitchen knife so we recognize it when she draws her sword. Tiagen, however, mistakes it for one of Master Eiji's blades. So we know Mizu's mark is synonymous with Master Eiji; she's a master smith. 2) Master Eiji has to know she's female. He knows everything that happens under his roof and she lived with him most of her life. Yet at the end he refuses to let her confess it to him saying it was her burden to bare. Is it just Japanese courtesy and honor behind him not acknowledging her real sex or is there another reason. Little things like that permeate through the entire season. Anyway, subbed for this one. It's a hell of a good ride. I will say, considering all the sex and nudity, it probably is a good thing you chose to rct to it versus watching it with your mom lol.

I just finished the show and I can say that blue eye samurai is peak fiction. The characters are super well written and have flaws unlike other shows. And the story and revenge plot was very entertaining. Overall this show deserves a 9.50/10. Can’t wait for season 2. Also nice reaction video.

@@scottbull7378 My reading of Taigen thinking the sword was Eiji's is that he recognised the workmanship - Mizu's makers mark was facing away from him. A fun detail: The knife that Mizu picks up from the table in the noodle shop to cut off the guys fingers also has her mark.

I don't think it is meant to be a surprise for the audience. Don't think I have seen any reactions where it wasn't immediately guessed that she is a woman. Though some start to doubt themselves after being bombarded with characters calling her a man, I think it is more a testament of how blinded the characters are in the show, because of pride. There are certainly signs that she is a woman... signs that we as the audience catch on to quite quickly, but the concept is SO outrageous to the characters in the show that they refuse to acknowledge it. Another reason that I don't think it was supposed to be a surprise, is that it is revealed in the description for the first episode on Netflix as well as the show description on IMDB.
