Yea it seemed rigged considering he gave the winner a lightning amulet to the guy who weld it in a past life and has the name Raiden... Like if Liu had different items in store for the winner or if the amulet responds differently depending on the user then I'd get it, but nah it just felt like he wanted to test Raiden in particular.

Yea I get what you’re saying but I feel he knew raiden would win anyways and the fact that he beat all the other earthrealm fighters before he got the amulet and keep in mind none of them had any special abilities during their training.

I don't know how it would have played out for Kumg Lao, but I have some scenarios thought about for if kenshi or Johnny Johnny: Liu Kang helps him unlock his powers from MKX Kenshi: after "convincing" Johnny to give back Sento, Liu Kang helps him tap into it's true potential

It wouldn't shock me if Liu did, in fact, rig it. His job is to maintain the tenous balance between Outworld and Earthrealm, and he's done so with an exact 50% win rate - isn't that strange? He's also proven willing to go act behind people's backs to set things up, like with his stealth mission behind Sindel's back or Tomas' parents. It's not like the other Earthrealmers (or past Champions) strictly needed magical powers to compete with Outworld in a no-kill tournament, either. Sounds like Liu just really wanted the win this year.

Kung lao lost cuz he wasn't fully paying attention in training (he had the natural talent so his overconfidence made him lose) Johnny did lose cuz well he was more focused on all the crazy stuff around him than fully embracing his role as one of earthrealm champions And Kenshi did his best but ultimately was surpassed by both kung lao and raiden who have a little headstart from madam bo not to mention he also was a bit focused on sento and his clan on the back of his mind ( he even admits it from his voice lines" the best man won " he accepted his shortcomings with honor) So yeah all had an equal shot at becoming champion it was just matter of who was at the right mindset at the moment

I actually don't think it was rigged. Every outworlder Raiden went up against, had some form of magic or a main weapon. So Raiden was just supposed to come pulling up, fists squared up against Shao's 5 foot long Hammer or Li Mei's magic? Or Kitana's fan blades? Make it make sense. The only one I don't remember having a weapon or magic is Reiko. Look at how that turned out 🤷🏼‍♂️.

MK1 made me actually like Raiden more. He wasnt too bad as a demigod, but he was douchey and dumb most of the time. Liu Kang being the main god is soooo much better
