Ermac has always been a servant of Mortal Kombat's most vicious villains; however, in this timeline, Ermac seems to be an ally to the forces of light and appears to get along with Liu Kang, Geras, and other Earthrealmers.

Technically good guy Ermac is not new but rather a returning concept to which better serves the character instead of just being someone else to defeat in the story. Him being a hero is what made him into what he is today.

And he while was an antagonist in MKX, it was more because he was allied with Kotal Kahn, the lesser of the evil factions in that game. (Sure, Kotal was a dickhead for the whole “We shall appease Shinnok” thing, but I can see him doing that out of desperation.)

So Ermac in this New Era is in a similar spot as they were in Deception- without a master and seeking a new purpose to their existence. In Deception, they found new friends in Kenshi and Liu Kang and helped them rescue their friends from Onaga's control. What will their new purpose be in this new time line, I wonder? Given that Jerrod no longer has command over the Collective and with the magics keeping them held together waning, they'll probably want to do some good in the world before they eventually fall apart.

The magic that binded Ermac could be sever. Though previously, it was Liu Kang's spirit that freed him when Shao Kahn wasn't around. Not sure of Ermac of the rebooted time. Must've not been as bound as thought he was. As for the current Ermac, if they could sever the control from Quan-Chi permanently, then there would be a repeat of Deception's Ermac.

Ermac would in theory be the single strongest ‘humanoid’ combatant in the MK universe imo. If you think about it logically, let’s for arguments sake say he has 100,000 souls in ‘The Collection’, they each will come with their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Those with certain weaknesses will be covered by other souls which are strong in that area, there is no way that 100,000 souls all have the same weakness. Plus the fact that absorbed souls retain any powers when they join The Collection as seen with Sindel’s scream. So over the years Ermac’s ‘magic’ will grow and their knowledge and skills will also increase. Ermac could easily be Outworlds champion with centuries of combat knowledge and styles, being able to adjust they’re style on the fly to counteract whoever they are facing.

Ermac was never truly evil he was created to serve unfortunately those he serves are evil. Ermac was also made from good souls and probably learned from Jerrod’s influence to be better.

If there is at least one thing i enjoy as we've progressed after the reboot (MK 2011), the fleshing out of "forgotten" characters. With this MK1 is makes me happy with Reptile, Ermac, Mileena especially, but when i first saw Li Mei and Ashrah as more than cameos or absent, now that amazing to see

I can't speak for other consoles but once you buy the combat pack on PlayStation the individual DLCs change price to 'free'. If you're on PlayStation and still can't access the characters try downloading them individually through the PS Store. You may also need to access the NRS servers with the DLC on your console to unlock the characters so you might have to check whether you have access to that.

It kinda looks like Ermac will have the more personal rivalry with Quan Chi that Scorpion/Hanzo has always had. Kinda weird to think of, but if it leads to Ermac chasing Quan Chi through the Netherrealm and repeatedly torturing him I'm all for it.

In this timeline, the souls that make up Ermac are those who once inhabited the Living Forest. No soul who ended up there is evil since evil souls end up in the Netherrealm. So why would Ermac be evil once free of Quan Chi?

He’s always evil at first. In the OG timeline Kenshi freed him from servitude and he joined the good guys In the Netherrealm Timeline, Shao Kahn died and he made the decision to devote himself Kotal Kahn, becoming somewhat of an uneasy ally of Earthrealm
