Infrared saunas offer most of the same health benefits as traditional saunas, and some (depending on their technology) can also provide unique skin health benefits. In this video, I explain what to look for depending on factors like your space, budget and intended use cases (e.g., relaxation, recovery, etc.).
Unlike most of the other “best infrared saunas” reviews I’ve come across, this video is based predominantly on my hands-on experience with the recommended sauna models. I have owned many and tried most of them, except for the SereneLife (which is available on Amazon).

See a lot of complaints about presentation being almost an ad for Sunlighten. And I agree But…. Compared to others on KZfaq and TikTok Michael is extremely unbiased. It’s surprisingly difficult to get solid advice on which brands are best in fulfilling your needs.

Many thanks for the excellent review. My only comment is that the larger cabin saunas that include red and NIR, such as the Sunlighten Impulse, probably can't deliver an effective dose. I bought one and then returned it because Sunlighten could not/would not reveal the power, dimensions, and distance of the red light/NIR panels so that it was impossible to determine dose. Without delivering an adequate dose, there will be no benefit. Because of the proximity, the small cabin Therasage might be able to deliver an effective dose at least to some body parts. Is this reasoning correct or am I missing something? Many thanks,
@MichaelKummer
@MichaelKummer 2 ай бұрын
Distance is definitely a major factor which is why I always lean against the panels. You might have to reduce the temperature to do so, however.

so i know you have a redwood sauna and the mpulse. im looking at getting just one of those. i use a conventional dry right now that gets to about 180F at chest level which i do love. question is what do you like more or find yourself using more. thank you

I go through phases where I use the IR sauna a lot and not the wet sauna. And a few months later, I do the opposite. The Sunlighten sauna is just a bit more convenient but I also enjoy the humid air in the Redwood sauna. I think you can't go wrong either day.

In considering building a sauna in my 5’4”x7’4” fruit cellar/ cold room under my front entrance. I’d like to include red light therapy panels in the IR sauna. Are saunas too hot for RLT devices? Do the fans get overworked or are their special RLT panels made for use inside a sauna?
@MichaelKummer
@MichaelKummer 4 ай бұрын
You'd have to check the operating temp range of the panel you're considering. I'm sure there are panels that can handle the heat.

Where'd you get the cover for the Sunlighten? Is the Sunlighten sauna an "indoor" sauna that you can have outdoors with the cover?
@MichaelKummer

I got it directly from Sunlighten but you can't use the cover on an indoor model without voiding the warranty.

Hi Mike, I saw a video with Sunlighten. It was a great video and said nothing bad. My only concern is that when she was checking the EMF's they were pretty high. Have you ever EMF tested the sauna Sunlighten yourself? Also, option of Radiant vs Sun stream. From what I have been reading Sun stream seems the safest. Please let me know your thoughts :)

What’s the approximate cost to operate a traditional two person sauna? I use a sauna at the gym, but if there’s someone in that 8 to 10 person sauna that’s coughing, I leave before my 20 minutes sauna session to try to avoid getting sick from the person that’s coughing. I need to know what kind of an electric circuit is needed. Is it 115 volts or 230 volts, and how many amps? About how much time does it take to heat to about 175 degrees, and how much power would it consume per 20 minute session, including the pre-heating? With that information, I could calculate the electric cost on a daily or monthly basis. I’m thinking about installing a two person sauna in a pool cage in Florida. It’s an area that’s under roof, but not air conditioned. It would make more sense to keep that heat outside the air conditioned space, so the air conditioning in the house would not have to work against the heat generated by the sauna. 0:05 What is the ideal sauna temperature? At the gym, it’s between about 160 to 175 degrees. Joe Rogan talks about his sauna that’s set to 185 degrees. What kind of periodic maintenance does a sauna require?
@MichaelKummer
@MichaelKummer 6 ай бұрын
If the sauna is hot enough, it kills pathogens. So the risk of getting sick is relatively low. How much you'll pay for electricity depends on where you live. Our current Sunlighten mPulse costs me 21 cents an hour here in Georgia and required a 240V circuit. But there are plenty of saunas that require only a 120V is have less wattage. The ideal temp depends on the type of sauna. For a Finnish sauna, you want 185+, for an infrared you want 145+. There is not much (if any maintenance) required. See michaelkummer.com/health/sunlighten-mpulse-review/ for more info.

How long does it take for your mpulse to heat up with it being outside? I’m in Cali so won’t get much colder than 30F outside. Also, thinking about getting the 5person, do you think it will take a lot more time than yours to reach max temp? Thanks!
@MichaelKummer
@MichaelKummer 7 ай бұрын
About 45 minutes to reach peak temps here in Georgia. The larger cabins shouldn't take much longer because they have more heaters to compensate for the larger interior.

I'd argue that most people don't install WiFi routers at home for a sauna...it's already there. So whether or not the sauna is WiFi enabled doesn't change your EMF exposure.
