75% of these plays the runner is out for leaving the base path; some of these the runner deviates from a straight line and is therefor out of the base path, others the runner slides too far to the side of the base and therefor out of the base path

nope. The "straight line" is not the base path. Base path is 3ft on either side of the base line and is only relevant when a tag is applied. FYI every runner deviates from the base line because the have to round the base
