I'm just glad Elvis received this award, because he deserved it. No other President thought enough of Elvis to award this medal to him, although it should've been issued to him during his lifetime. When I hear people making an issue of President Trump awarding this honor to Elvis, I can't help but feel sorry for them and their narrow and mean-spirited world view. The man deserved it and The President showed a lot of class and intelligence bestowing it upon EP.

I really appreciate the Smith Family and it would have been wonderful to see Billy accept the award on Elvis' behalf. Yet it bothers me that so many people have made this about politics and not the Honor that the UNITED STATES bestowed upon Elvis. E.P. did 4 years in the Army 2 active performing maneuvers in the field, 2 yrs. reserve. He donated the funds to complete the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. He saved FDR'st yacht "Potomac" from the scrap heap & donated it to St. Jude's hospital, which they sold for $$ and was later restored for people to view today & preserved history. He was a true Patriot. He gave to many charities and helped the downtrodden without looking for praise. He shared his beautiful voice and entertained the world. Elvis had dealt with criticism, jealousy, biased press, & death threats throughout his career. Yet he rose like a Phoenix & soared to heights unimaginable. 41 years after his passing, he is still being honored and remembered. (I think he would be humbled by it all.)

With all due respect , Jack Soden should have not been the person to receive the award. This was very personal. A once-in-a-lifetime moment, and this family member is alive. Lisa Marie Presley should have been there for her father. That's the bottom line.

Elvis was not able to be here to collect such an outstanding award, and now I see his Daughter could care less.
