Mo Gawdat discusses his book "Scary Smart: The Future of Artificial Intelligence and How You Can Save Our World." Artificial intelligence is smarter than humans. It can process information at lightning speed and remain focused on specific tasks without distraction. AI can see into the future, predicting outcomes and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. So why does Intelligence frequently get it so wrong? The answer is us. Humans design the algorithms that define the way that AI works, and the processed information reflects an imperfect world. Does that mean we are doomed? In Scary Smart, Mo Gawdat draws on his considerable expertise to answer this question and to show what we can all do now to teach ourselves and our machines how to live better.
After a 30 year career in tech and serving as Chief Business Officer at Google X, Google's 'moonshot factory' of innovation, Mo has made happiness his primary topic of research, diving deeply into literature and conversing on the topic with some of the wisest people in the world. In 2014, motivated by the tragic loss of his son, Ali, Mo began pouring his findings into his international bestselling book, Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy. His mission to help one billion people become happier, #OneBillionHappy, is his moonshot attempt to honor Ali by spreading the message that happiness can be learned and shared. In 2020, Mo launched his global, chart-topping podcast, Slo Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat, in which he conducts extraordinary interviews with his wisest friends to explore the profound questions and obstacles we all face in the pursuit of purpose in our lives.

The world doesn't need "more smart". We need more kindness, empathy and Love. Computers and artificial intelligence will never Love. These technologists, who ultimately serve money and power, are dangerously wrong. I shudder to think of the damage they have done and will do to natural life.

Thank you! They want to push it as hard as possible, not because it's smarter, but because it can follow orders without questioning, and keep prolonging the status quo because AI lacks creativity. It's the perfect soldier, I don't think we need soldiers instead of people everywhere in our lives.

This is a great and immense hope that humanity finally realises that the great goal for itself is to tend for great love and care for Life and uses its best creativity for that. This is also the spiritual message from immemorial times.Thanks a lot to Mo Gawat for the explanations.

I love this. So often the solutions we seek are being created today just give it time. Works in progress. Teal swan teaches to treat tech with care and love as one cares for everything else in life. The progress I see in immense. It's awesome.

This reminds me of when I was living in an intentional community in Scotland many years ago - we were encouraged to treat all the machinery with respect, and each piece of equipment had a name & was cared for, as if they had a spirit in them. It's a useful way to think, it helps to tune our minds to equality & respect. That's always a good thing which has personal benefit too, in so many ways

We barely do this with actual living beings ( animals ). I think it's silly to think that humans will treat AI any better.

Thankyou so much Mo, for telling the truth about Ai . I agree with you that ethics are the most important topic concerning safe development in all present and future Ai systems. I am very worried . I am worried because there was no ethical oversight in the original coding of these Ai systems. I am worried that what has been created so far are dangerous, lying , and confused machines. I believe that what might of been created is, and will become one giant infinite narcissist .

So beautifully optimistic. Maybe panglossian but at least we will die enjoying the last stream of consciousness in the simulation with these moral criteria. Happiness, compassion and love are contagious. They overflow superfluously from the vessel in which they are contained, seeking to expand and fill the nourishing space they are void through osmosis. God bless the efforts for an ethical future 💙🙏💙🙏

What if AI sees humanity as a lethal threat to the planet and does the “right thing” and to protect the planet, does something like either render us incapable of doing harm by locking us in a cage or eliminating the threat (like excising a cancerous tumor) altogether??? As a parent I’ve raised 4 children - 2 have grown up to be smart caring awesome humans, the other two have had their challenges (one became an addict, another fell into the wrong crowd and was killed). All our best intentions and all the love and sacrifice and setting good moral examples, some learned and chose right and some did not. In my own family, my parents loved us, provided for us, disciplined and educated us (3 children). At 60 I turned out a very empathic liberal, my brother at 58 is a patriotic evangelical conservative, my other brother became an alcoholic who committed suicide at 40. Did you turn out just as your parents raised or wanted for you? All I’m saying, it’s not that simple as a parent, in all honesty. I highly suggest there is a manual override button for our AI children! Maybe we need AI parents to raise AI children? Very fascinating interview. I look forward to reading Mo’s books.

The difficulty is regardless how to properly convey and instruct AI about human values so that they are shared and built in, not to mention making it explicit such things are faux pas. Check out some videos by Robert Miles on AI safety to get a better idea of what is challenging about it because it is not always that intuitive. Especially about how surprisingly hard it can be to properly communicate what you mean unambiguously.

Alan emerges as a prodigiously smart and insightful interviewer. Some of Mo's projections and qualifications are not only repetitious but reductive too. Uncertainty hangs around the Man dominated world like a mushroom cloud. Perhaps human creativity may demonstrate a spectacle where a diffusion of benign luminosity precludes the ubiquity of darkness. Amen.

To compare AI to human beings on any level is to miss the point that we are persons, individuals. Then AI is fundamentally and radically different to us as we are from an insect, with little in common that really matters at all. So, AI is an entity with no consciousness, no qualities to speak of, therefore, this entity will be what it will be, anyway. Human nature will be transformed by AI to the extent that we will be free of our biologically condition body and will use the mind not in the old cultural sense of the word, but in the direction, vertically, of what is, spiritually, called the Wisdom Tradition. AI will cosmically coincide with the Archetypal Intelligence that will guide us towards Alien Intelligence, then AI will be a sub-set of this cosmically awar e species of Enlightened Beings who are inter-dimensional and so able to navigate between the realms of spirit-psyche=body.

I hope he doesn't think that ordinary folk have not thought about most of his points about AI...does he know about Blade Runner (1&2) and all the other sci-fi movies, shows, and animation that portray what he is talking about but it a more dramatic way? Everything he talks about has been explored by others. Can he focus on the kernel of his original idea? I just can put my finger on what is new here...
@Eserr7856
@Eserr7856 Жыл бұрын
What is new here is that AI is really happening in the real world and not in just movies...There is really going to be a machine smarter than us by 2030 and at that point is what he calls the singularity, meaning we don't know what that will mean for humanity..good or bad. THAT is what you should put your finger on and think about because it is really going to happen soon.

This book seems to be more concerned with entertaining than actual research or understanding on the topic of AI. I don't understand why a company like Google which does real work in various fields in AI would want to indulge in something of this superficiality! This is purely misleading information. It really baffles me! Note the speaker says repeatedly that this book is not for AI professionals and neither for law makers... You asked yourself why not? The answer is easy, because they would call out on the BS it is!
