Sun and rain. I need both to survive but too much of either one will wreck my day. To gain some control of the power of the sun and rain I decided to build a primitive mobile panel that I can place where I want it to give me shade and protect outdoor items from the rain.

Keep one of those fan palm leaves in your hut. Cut it down a bit to make it more compact and use it to blow air into your fire or fan your head when it's hot inside. Lash a couple of them together and cut down the end straight for a broom? Rip of the individual leaves and use it as 'rebar' in your Adobe bricks? Use for kindling?

@conkerchopper
@conkerchopper Ай бұрын
@@PublicServiceForTruth Si.

could use them to make a broom for your new tiled floor in your hut, how's the dust buildup been since you made it? is the palm comfortable to lay on? could make a mat. Another thing you could try is put the shade panel over the hole and see if it gets cool inside it. You said its very time consuming to use that rhyolite to cut and shape wood, maybe a tool upgrade could help, do you have any kind of Knapp able stone around? If not no harm in getting some from a friend. keep up the good work, stay cool out there.

Rhyolite is knappable. I haven't found other good stone yet but that may just be because of my lack of knowledge in geology. Palm mats may be a terrific idea. I want to make a decent bed eventually.

@@ChadZuberAdventures try going by the river and breaking stones open until you find one with a glossy look to it. just make sure to close your eyes on impact or shard of stone might get in your eye. if you cant find anything maybe bone tools would be better. remember your bone saw, would that work on wood?

if you want to help increase the over all plant and animal health in the region i think making a makeshift beaver dam or to in some of the seasonal rivers/streams... i heard it insures that the water will slowdown enough to better soak into the ground which helps the plants and animals... also apparently it can help create fire breaks to slowdown and supress wild fires... i think it could help with fishing if make correctly... regardless making some small swells and berms along any nearby channels that rain water flows should help with erosion and plant growth in your area... then again if i had my own land to live and build on i'd let my inner medieval nerd out and start building a castle/fort...

With your lashings, is there a reason you are ignoring the "frapping" step? After you get the few wraps around the branches you should tighen them up by doing a few wraps around the lashing itself to pull the loops around the branches tightly together.
@ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures Ай бұрын
I don't think I showed all the detail of tying the branches together because it was too long and most people then just click off of a video at that point. But, yes, I do wrap around the lashing itself too. I might not do it the best way though. I've never been taught how.

I think this would work pretty well considering that it leaves practically no holes for the rain to get through but i guess we will find out when it rains, as for what to do with the dry palm stems do you think it would work as a hand fan?
