Respected Sir, Please start Masters program for Astrodynamics (Orbital Mechanics) and Space Engineering Engineering in IIT. In india we don't have this engineering course in iit. We student want to learn this course

Sir, you said if the semimajor axis increases then the energy of the satellite will increase. Which I related that the more height we will give the satellite the more energy it will need. But the equation at 12:17 gives opposite explanation, i.e., if semimajor axis increases then energy of the satellite will decrease. Which one is correct?

Energy of the satellite in orbit is (mv^2 /2)-(GMm/r)=-GMm/2a (will be derived later in the course), so if a increases then energy increases and vice versa. This has nothing to do with what he said at 12:17. What he said at 12:17 is that if we want to change the orbit of the satellite (i.e the inclination or height/radius) it will be covered in the orbit transfer (or trajectory transfer) part.

@@srinivaskanigiri8863 Okay so he meant if we need to push the satellite away to an orbit with higher radius we need higher energy, right?

@@swarnalihait7201 Yes.If we want to change the orbit of the satellite to a higher radius we have to give an impulse to the satellite and we take the transfer path that is more energy efficient(Watch lecture 21). So the higher the orbit the more impulse we need to give(or the more work we have to do or the more energy we need)

According to the equation, if semi major axis increases then energy becomes less negative, thus indicating an increase in energy of the satellite.
