@@mjjsjd1786 There are actually few traits more genetically caused than body weight. Twin studies show that it is about 70% determined by DNA. Yes, you can starve yourself and become thinner than is natural for you. You can also starve a genetically tall person so they don't grow to their full height. This isn't to say that people shouldn't try to be healthy... but it is to say that calling it 'all a matter of choice' is not true to reality and un-scientific. Recent studies showed that this is the fault of women... Particularly, women writers. Men write characters the way they think the character is supposed to be, or maybe even in a way that they themselves admire. Women, however, just can't seem to relate to anyone who isn't just like them, so they tend to just write characters as self-inserts... They also seem to think that EVERYONE operates this way, and then try to be saviors to those they deem as marginalized groups, and do nothing but pander when they become producers and such (which we clearly have seen over and over in the passed 10 years or so).

Thing is that ugly characters nowadays are simply ugly to not make viewers insecure, them being ugly isn't really that important and great asset to their characters. Sorry man my one of favorite characters from disney is Quasimodo. But his ugliness is one of core traits of his, he is supposed to look repulsive, reclusive, outcast, but we learn that he is not only actual human being like us, he is very kind human being, probably more kind than most of us. There was strong intent behind his looks. Nowadays it's this indulgent way of thinking, not only with ugly characters but all type of characters like putting token black guy or homosexual guy, their only purpose is for those specific groups in audience to not feel left out, but that's not how healthy individuals think like. I'd like to see more ugliness, but done well. Showing people who are gaunt, who are disproportional, but in the end they are their own characters, in spite of being fictional, they feel like real people.

@@Hepheat75 Well let's look at it meta here. Those characters are ugly from their own actions only because author wants them to be like that, instead of focusing on this type of ugliness we should focus our acceptance and body positivity to those like Quasimodo, who are deformed, are burn victims, suffer from illness which impair them physically and other conditions that cannot be controlled. Toxic positivity is a perfect name for it, tbh. And this is far from the first time a lifestyle that used to be considered bad was not only re-imagined to be good but also shown to be *superior* to the opposing way of life. Take, for example, Lady and the Tramp. In that film, Tramp's "ride or die," no commitment lifestyle is shown to be liberating in some aspects. But it also results in Lady being traumatized after she was carted off to the pound. In that film, family and commitment were shown as the lifestyle that most people should ultimately strive for. Fast forward to Toy Story 4. Woody is the one supporting the notion of family and commitment and Bo Peep is championing the 'no commitment, ride or die' mindset. But Toy Story 4 treats Woody as the one in the wrong, to the point where he throws away those values to adopt Bo Peep's. Disney is so obsessed with being "inclusive" to all lifestyles that they have swung too far in the other direction to where they are now actively promoting destructive and selfish lifestyles.
@CordeliaWagner
@CordeliaWagner 6 ай бұрын
Not wanting to get married and breed isn't selfish or destructive. But looking at all the overworked unhappy mothers the old fashioned lifestyle doesn't look like it leads to happyness for all. Not everybody is made for a life of childcare work. And marriage is just a custom, nothing that improves a person in any way. Commitment is not a contract between you, another person and the government.

Part of the message was also that just because you are obese doesn't mean it is permanent and don't let others make you feel horrible for it, find the positives in life and use that as motivation to make improvements. Spot on, Cynic. I absolutely hate the culture of toxic positivity. I know this video is about body positivity specifically, but I'm sick of it in all fields. I'm sick of the media shoving obnoxious pandering messages with no real depth or solutions, just yammering on and on about the same things over and over again, and the people who its aimed for eating it up, and calling anyone who doesn't swallow a bigot. Not to mention the multiple people who will sign your name in the Death Note if you so much as DARE say a SINGLE NEGATIVE THING ABOUT ANY MOVIE IN EXSISTENCE. Like, even if it's a movie they hate, these people will whine and complain. I'm not kidding, there are Rise Of Skywalker haters mad that people are saying bad things about ROS. These people can't fathom the idea that sometimes negativity is a necessary and important part of fandom, that people don't just hate to hate, they hate because it's fun to discuss and analyze why we dislike something. But these people like things because liking things is what a fan is supposed to do. And I'm sick of it. Stop acting like being negative is this horrible thing, and just allow yourself to hate things. Side note, if you hate yourself, go look up r/SaltierThanKrayt. It is literally toxic positivity the subreddit, and it is one of the most cringey, obnoxious, self obsessed echochambers on the internet. It's like an endurance test going on that rancid subreddit.

one of my favorite sayings and beliefs lately is actually pretty simple.. without the bad how do we know what good is? if all we know is good, then how can we even appreciate that good? I have mental disabilities and I'm morbidly obese. But recently I've been losing a fair bit of weight. and I love the original message of body positivity.. Love yourself and accept yourself while your working to be better. With the weight I've lost so far literally everything in life has become so much easier.. So much less painful.. It's a lot of hard work and its very slow especially having diabetes and very little support.. But my god It's worth it.. It also gives me a massive appreciation for the good in life. For the longest time my life was so miserable and suicidal. But I've come to grow and learn so much over the last few years, especially since therapy and having some great support workers.. Life is so beautiful and special. I am so thankful for every positive experience.. But I've come to realize as well, without the negative experiences its impossible to appreciate the positive experiences..

American culture has always been prone to narcissism (exceptionalism being one marker) and mindless optimism. Not to put all the blame on parents, but it is either their job to keep their children healthy and attractive or worst case scenario make them confident enough to own being fat. One of the most attractive traits is not living for other people's approval while being aware of your own imperfections. Men struggle with loneliness, but women need company literally to rate themselves and their lives by. Ironic, because it's mostly women being vicious about another woman's appearance while there's porn for men who like 'em big. Fat acceptance is a struggle between females before anything else.

Really fantastic video and incredibly accurate. Wall-E is perhaps the best Pixar film ever made and it's so incredibly poignant. I've always felt it should be shown to children in schools followed by education on nutrition. Another thing I find too is people being enabled by family members and friends. The clips of The Whale reminded me of that because his nurse is just as guilty for his obesity as he is. She gives him what he wants just like enabling any addict because she feels bad. I used to work at a restaurant that was super family friendly years ago, and I would see so many children drinking 4-5 refills of soda with their dinner and they were all obese. Parents didn't say anything and just gave in. As we progress as a society shouldn't we be healthier than ever before with the knowledge we have? It is The Twilight Zone.

Maybe don't promote Temu. It's technically not a scam but is super shady and unsafe. I agree that the body positivity thing is a case of the 180° turn that's too far. It's not okay to bully and shame people just for being overweight but it's also not something that should be praised or idolised. It's a bit of a personal topic for me because I've been overweight for a lot of my life and I've never thought of it as a good thing, but I also have a disability that makes losing it really difficult. I'm working with an exercise physiologist to help it but it's still going to be a long and arduous process. I think you briefly mentioned about unhealthy food being cheaper and easier, but I'd say that poverty/ wealth plays a big part in fitness as well. If you don't have the time between your job and taking care of your kids to cook a good meal, or you literally can't afford healthier food or a gym membership or, like me, need specialised help so as not to damage yourself, it's going to be very difficult to change your circumstances. Just some thoughts. Excellent video overall (aside from the sponsor).

TEMU is in fact a scam, as long as one defines a scam as a foreign government (China) collecting you data, using every method at their disposal not limited of course to using build-in software to spy on you. Don't forget though; you are not obligated to answer the question, "why in the world would the Chinese government want to spy on YOU?" Because that doesn't matter Tyler! Stay out of my phone!

I'm also morbidly obese and have diabetes and mental disabilities and learning disabilities.. and your not wrong.. there's nothing good about being obese. It's definitely harder to eat healthy and costs more.. and its a slow process for sure.. but in the long term it will probably be cheaper .. less visits to doctors and hospitals.. you'll probably live longer.. and everything is easier and less painful.. I wish you nothing but the best with your journey and I'm in your corner for sure.. you got this! just remember its not a race, and you only need to compare yourself to yourself. be better then you were before and your winning.. there will always be set backs but let them set backs make the progress feel even better. I've found the negatives in life really help me appreciate the positives way more..

I really appreciate how you talked about the double standard of bodily expectations for men and women. In the early 2000s corporations pushed an unrealistic standard for how women should look (SUPER skinny, unhealthy). Nowadays, corporations push a very unrealistic standard for how men should look (SUPER jacked, unhealthy). Everyone is different, and we should all strive to be as healthy as we can be despite our differences. We shouldnt be promoting the use of enhancers for men or "body positivity" (laziness) for women.

The irony of that short film Reflect is that Ballet is a very core intensive workout requiring a lot of stamina and the girl in the movie would likely lose all that weight due to the amount of cardio she would be doing on a regular basis. A perfect example of this is back in High School on my Cross Country team one of the guys who joined was on the fatter side but by the end of the season he had lost a considerable amount of that excess weight due to all the running.

Hold on a minute, just looked up the synopses for the "reflect" film. How the hell would a "plus sized" person learn ballet in the first place? Honestly, Ballet dancers aren't all thin because of unrealistic beauty standards, they're all thin because it's bloody physically demanding and takes great flexibility! What next, a film about a fat person winning races against Usain Bolt just by the magical power of belief? Also, news flash, most normal women like! Looking pretty. There is a good reason the beauty industry markets most of it's products to women, and it's certainly not "the patriarchy!"

There’s currently an ad on Dutch tv for hygienic pads, and it features an overweight figure skater. At first glance, it looks impressive! But then I actually asked a figure skater if what she’s doing IS impressive, and the answer was a resounding “nope, not really”. The fact that fat people can do SOME type of movement isn’t special. They still will never be able to do it like a fit person would. As someone who’s lost significant weight, fat positivity just stings me extra hard.

Not to mention public transportation, and spaces in general, are built for people, that are actually people sized. I'm all for complete freedom of personal choice until it starts impacting other people negatively. Having over 70% of the country as overweight and some 40% being obese categorically falls unequivocally falls into negatively impacting others on a daily basis.

Why should one be positive about failing at ones responsibilities? Should we start to lionize kids who fail class, due to laziness, so as to not hurt their feelings? Should we praise people for not doing their jobs, all because we want to be understanding of their sensitivities? Make no mistake, with rare exception, being obese is a personal failing. It is a failure to do your due diligence to keep your body in the shape it supposed to be to maintain long term health, optimize quality of life and performance. I say this as a man who has struggled with his weight, since graduating university, over 22 years ago. Redefining a failing into a virtue helps no one, least of all those struggling with the vice of gluttony.

@@crazybrainiacjr She was depicted as a dumpy ugly woman. When has April ever been depicted this way in past TMNT content? And if you didn't notice, the video is about the body positivity issue where hollywood, the media, and influencers on social media are pushing an it's ok to be unhealthy message. His argument is they made her fat and that's what the video is about. Did you watch it or do you lack comprehension skills? What did making her fat, ugly, and race swapping accomplish? Like someone said above in another comment, we don't need characters that look like super models. But being healthy should be the norm. It's absurd thinking that because there are unhealthy people in the world it means there also must be unhealthy people in movies, especially animated ones. If ya wanna see some fat people go to social media. There is no shortage of em there. And this is coming from someone who was 50 lbs overweight and I worked my ass off to drop 40 lbs in a little over a year. I did that because all that extra weight was causing big time issues in my life.

It feels great to finally have some self confidence and showing up for yourself. I still have a long way to go, but I can see my confidence building and I’m finally starting to be happy with my body. The body positive ballerina is going to obliterate her ankles. Thin ballerinas have problems with that, you can't put a couple dozen more pounds on those and have them stay in one piece. I do believe that "positivity" started out from a good and defensible spot that kids should not be bullied and "you are special just the way you are" is as old as Mr. Rogers. However, what the left forgot was this is only okay FOR KIDS. Yeah, if a kid is overweight, that is because of their parents and schools should never encourage bullying and kids that are different deserve to go to school and learn free from being bullied if the school hears of bullying. And telling little kids they have worth even if they look different than others is admirable. BUT they have tried to graft this unto adults, and that is crazy. Part of being an adult is knowing and accepting other people are smarter, funnier and better looking than you. It is called growing up. And people who are coddled and told being overweight is "sexy" also then start to think everyone also thinks that, and leads to a life of depression and cynicism and being angry when reality does not equal what is in their own heads. Many of these women (and you see it everywhere) think they are "10's" when they are more like 5's, and then demand only the hottest guys, but then are rejected and used by them. This causes them not to date in their league and are single with no kids and miserable at age 40.
