My mother always tried to keep me on call for every little problem, resented me going on vacations without her knowledge or permission (even though she insisted I didn't "need" to tell her), and did her indirect best to undermine my self-esteem and keep me passive, timid, and hesitant...which in turn made me UNATTRACTIVE to other women. I finally started breaking free of her ten years ago and cut ties with her over seven years ago, but the damage was SEVERE: I had to go into therapy for a while and I still suffer from permanent trust issues and social anxiety (relatively MINOR, but there nonetheless).
