It'll make sense if you learn more scales. C Harmonic MAJOR = b6 = Ab = F Lydian b3 , G mix b2 A Harmonic min = maj7 = G# = F lydian #2 , G# loc 4, bb7 Im still in C MAJOR/Amin as the parent key The full diminished are B, D, F, Ab B D F G# A melodic min #4 = D# = C Ion #2, #4, #5 A melodic min b5 = Eb = C ion b3, #4, #5 The full diminished are A , C, D#, F# A C Eb F# you can basically play any diminished chord into any chord G7 into C Major or C minor G7 G B, D, F. extend to G 7 add b9 B, D, F, Ab or E7 into A Major or A min or you could had played F dim into F# minor/A MAJOR The melodic min #4 or b5 will make more sense. There's NO Full diminished chords in the Melodic min scale. but now...you get to make it over the TONIC by inserting the tritone...The #4 still has the 5th MORE OPTIONS....C dim into C# Minor or C# MAJOR/A# minor D# dim into E MAJOR or E minor seeing the F# as aeo b5..will also help you.. You could had just play F# dim into G Major or minor You'll get used to changing a diminished into a Minor or TONIC F# minor/A MAJOR A harmonic MAJOR = D lydian b3 E7 ( Mix b2) F dim Common chords to A harmonic minor.... D min or dim E7 F dim or applying the ( N6) Bb maj7 or AUG to G minor D7 or F# while using the A melodic min or Bb7 D dim into Eb MAJOR or C minor or Bb7 ,C7 into F Major or F minor or F#7 into B min....or Bb dim or aug into B minor.... You can simply apply the N6 to B harmonic min b2.. walla C Maj7 to A minor again. E Harmonic min b5 = C HUNGARIAN MAJOR.. C Ion #2, #4, b7 it'll help you...becuase you can stack it like this C 3, 5 or C7 C #2, 5 or C min7 C #2, ,#4 or 1, #2, #4, 6 or 1, #2, #4, b7 If you also see it as Lydian dominant #2.... You'll associate it a PRE DOMINANT ( lydian).. when using the ( N6).. becuase you can alter that ( N6) maj7. Dominant. aug or dim

Dr Meyer, at 9:38, when respelling e fully dim 7, why is the natural sign necessary?
@DrKatiMeyerMusicTheory3 жыл бұрын
It’s not, but when using em harmonic spelling you can never to be specific or careful 😆

5:42 wouldnt that b natural diminished seventh chord be a 6/5 inversion since the root is B but the bass note is on D, the second note of the chord?
@DrKatiMeyerMusicTheory11 ай бұрын
The bass clef has an F as the lowest sounding pitch in the chord, making it a second inversion chord.
