Goddamn... the last 20 minutes of this are so sad in retrospect - especially when you know Patrice was no longer with us just 2 weeks or so after this originally aired. He sounded like he really had, or at least was in the process of turning the corner and on to the next bigger and better stage of both his life and career. His death robbed us all of greatness and not to be obvious or cliché but especially Patrice himself.

But, to see Patrice fade out at the height of the passion of his ethic, his righteousness and to never have sold out, is beautiful. Patrice lived and died literally being the epitome of a tragic comedy. Its fuckin Shakespearean. But it would have been nice for Patrice to go on until at least, around 70. He would be one of the most infamous people of all time in the modern cultural climate of the western world.

Patrice died a soldier of his own platoon. I spot comments mentioning his self destructiveness and how he could have made it blah blah blah... He was doing things for himself not for the thirsty audiences. The more comments there are about what the entertained wanted from him, the more his isolated behavior makes sense to me and I have high respect for limiting his gift to the entertainment world.

I agree. You don't want to pander because although you might increase your audience, you lose respect. You still gotta eat though, blowing up as a cult figure after you die isn't going to feed you today. I think artists struggle with this dilemma and most choose filling the stomach because no one wants to go out like Tesla or Van Gogh. That's what separates the mediocre from the great, however. Patrice was one of the greats and I believe time will only show this more.

I know everyone says it and then half the other commenters say “you weren’t a fan when he was alive” but I don’t give a shit about the latter. I was a fan then but that doesn’t matter either way, I fucking miss Patrice. What a introspective and HILARIOUS man with such original ideas and takes on everything from race to culture, the industry to religion, and everything I’m between or outside the lines. Nothing was out of bounds or off limits and he was unrepentantly honest. There will never be another human comparable to Patrice. Thank god for O&A for giving us so much Patrice material we would never have had otherwise. RIP Patrice and thank you for all the laughs, tears, and all the things you made me think or look at in a way I never would have even imagined without your perspective... I wish he could have known how many people he truly touched and made laugh until they cried. Thank you Patrice and thank you to everyone who uploads these things and allows us to enjoy things we missed at the time.

He admits that it's a flaw of his and I agree. Sometimes he wrongfully believes that in a comedy podcast, he has to constantly be dishing jokes every so often. That's why I like Marc Maron's interviews. There's comedy, but more than anything you get to know the person. You see where they're coming from.

Yeah, i agree with everything everyone is saying here, Patrice was just coming into his own around Elephant in the room. He covers such a broad spectrum in his comedy and the things he talks about that it seems like he was just sort of placing all the pieces of who he was together. He's so divergently different from any other comic, its a shame we wont get to see the final picture of what he was becoming as a performer.

Shame he passed, shame he didn't have time to act on the podcast Wouldve given him the chance to stop paying 100$ a day to go do radio in NY, and he woulda had the down time he needed while increasing his fan's interest Patrice wouldve been a top 10 podcast AT LEAST maybe even more popular What you gonna do, he got the plug pulled on him, lost a real man, a good man

@stizacraack9693 damn, he was never paid for any of O&A appearances. I wonder if Sirius XM owed him any money. And i also wonder who decided to pull the plug?

Ugh. It's almost sickening to hear Patrice talking about his future in the business. Sad loss here even after all this time. We can only imagine what Patrice would have gotten into in the past two years, but I'm sure it would have been great.

I'm a bit of a racist. And that being said, I'm a huge fan of Patrice for many years. Patrice O'neal was a man. To the fullest extent of that word. Wise, light-years beyond his time. Nothing but respect to this great thinker. Goddamn, I miss this guy.

It's ironic he didn't want to be a martyr but ended up becoming one. He was just waiting for his Chazz Palminteri opportunity and it would have come if he had just stuck in there. Jay was trying to goad him into selling out to increase his audience but all it takes is one Slash or DeNiro knowing you and you're in your breakout role. I think. I have no idea how it really works, but that's the word on the street.
