Goddamn... the last 20 minutes of this are so sad in retrospect - especially when you know Patrice was no longer with us just 2 weeks or so after this originally aired. He sounded like he really had, or at least was in the process of turning the corner and on to the next bigger and better stage of both his life and career. His death robbed us all of greatness and not to be obvious or cliché but especially Patrice himself.

Yeah once he mentioned the Sheen roast I knew this had to be close to the end 😞

But, to see Patrice fade out at the height of the passion of his ethic, his righteousness and to never have sold out, is beautiful. Patrice lived and died literally being the epitome of a tragic comedy. Its fuckin Shakespearean. But it would have been nice for Patrice to go on until at least, around 70. He would be one of the most infamous people of all time in the modern cultural climate of the western world.

Patrice died a soldier of his own platoon. I spot comments mentioning his self destructiveness and how he could have made it blah blah blah... He was doing things for himself not for the thirsty audiences. The more comments there are about what the entertained wanted from him, the more his isolated behavior makes sense to me and I have high respect for limiting his gift to the entertainment world.

I agree. You don't want to pander because although you might increase your audience, you lose respect. You still gotta eat though, blowing up as a cult figure after you die isn't going to feed you today. I think artists struggle with this dilemma and most choose filling the stomach because no one wants to go out like Tesla or Van Gogh. That's what separates the mediocre from the great, however. Patrice was one of the greats and I believe time will only show this more.

I was a fan then but that doesn’t matter either way, I fucking miss Patrice. What a introspective and HILARIOUS man with such original ideas and takes on everything from race to culture, the industry to religion, and everything I’m between or outside the lines. Nothing was out of bounds or off limits and he was unrepentantly honest. There will never be another human comparable to Patrice. Thank god for O&A for giving us so much Patrice material we would never have had otherwise. RIP Patrice and thank you for all the laughs, tears, and all the things you made me think or look at in a way I never would have even imagined without your perspective...
