The name of the song, suggests "Wish one could take one's homeland with them", and it should be mentioned that Namjoo's mother passed away in his homeland (Iran), while he is in exile and couldn't atten any funeral.

Under the circumstances he deserves a medal just for turning up on stage.

Wow. He says (after talking about his loss) that he thinks his vocals are swollen and he didn’t think he could perform. Then he says he agreed to perform because the audience are already there. He mentions his performances in San Francisco are always bound with something, two times with his birthday and... He asks the audience to sing along so he can forget his sorrow because humans are good at forgetting.

I didn't notice that anyone mentioned that the original song has been performed by farhad mehrad, in a very soft and empathetic way. Namjoo, here, is kinda transforming the softness of the poem itself and the former performance by farhad, to a harsh angry version which is obviously more compatible with his own emothions.

The poem is “Violets’ Migration” from the poet “Shafiei Kadkani”. I’m a migrant and many and many times, I whisper this poet to myself. Some times, when I’m smiling at my beautiful violets in my garden reminding them that they can come with me wherever I go.. Other times, when I’m feeling broken wishing my Iran, my friends and family were all violets so they could come with me and I was carrying them in “small wooden boxes” like the ones they carry violets in.. To me, Namjoo is not only expressing all those feelings but also the anger! He’s repeating the verse several times. After few repeats, he adds anger in to it but the anger is still in a way that goes with the music. In the last round, he knowingly decides to break the structure and shows his anger the way it is.. It might sound like he didn’t/couldn’t control his voice.. but to me, he wanted to show that this anger is much bigger than something that can carry on his shoulders. Well, every artist show us part of his/her emotions in his/her artwork. This anger though, doesn’t fit in the normal (even Namjoo’s normal) music. He wanted to show how dreadful living with this anger is. And to me, he did it pretty well in the last repetition of the verse and this piece was not complete without the last scream. Again, this is what I hear in this performance and I might be wrong :)

"If only humanity could take his/her motherland wherever w/ him where he wished!" In particular if his mother died in Iran where he could not be present, the loss and sense of regret would be many folds; perhaps that's why he chose these lyrics. Yes I would agree that his style, if there were a parallel to be drawn, does remind me of Leonard Cohn's a lot. He is another one I miss!!

I want to explain my feeling about this song. that was a man in Iran who wants to immigrate from Iran to another country. because of the dictatorship in Iran, he can't shout. when he enplane the plane, said it louder than when he lives in Iran. every time he gets farther from Iran he shouts louder because of freedom!

You know what? The matter of Mohsen Namjoo’s mother lost right before his performance is a sad happen to him but he suffers that he can’t come to his own country for saying goodbye to his mother. Artists like Namjoo, ebi, googoosh, etc. are banned to come to Iran. This is a tragic fact that he and many people like him are involved.

It is anger emotion because of not being allowed to visit his mother all these years for political reasons and now realizes that he is gone forever. And the song is just saying that I wish that I could migrate my mother and my homeland to wherever I feel like.
