My whole life I’ve had complete opposite taste in clothes from my mom and that always bothered her. I grew up liking blue and black and that was it, while she was very girly and loved pink. I was very nervous for going dress shopping for my quince cuz I knew that we would feel differently about the color of the dress. In my head I was imagining myself in a blue dress and my mom was okay with that. Once we went dress shopping and I saw dozens of pink and purple dresses, I knew that I wanted to stand out in a different kind of dress. we walked into a boutique and I saw the most beautiful royal blue dress with gold accent flowers on the corset top. I literally fell in love with this dress and my mom’s reaction wasn’t the same as mine at first. I’ve probably have only tried about 2 dresses before and I knew I had to try on this dress. She was skeptical at first but was very excited to see a different reaction from me. Once I walked out and saw myself in the mirror I knew that it was the one. The style of the dress was stunning and it just felt perfect for me. My mom surprisingly supported my decision fully and was excited to see me happy and make my own decision in a dress that made me feel confident. I have never had the best relationship with my mom, but I’m forever grateful that she let me choose the dress I wanted and didn’t start an argument like how normally things go when we have a disagreement. The mom in this episode frustrated me so much, she was acting like a child trying to get what she wants when it’s her daughter’s quince. I get that the family gets excited too, but the quinceañera should be the one who chooses a dress in where she feels like herself. I’m so happy that she ended up getting the dress she wanted and I hope she has (or had if it already happened) a great time at her quince!
