Pre-ordered as soon as it went live. Played the demo, and it was fucking awesome. It reminds me of the original Persona games in terms of atmosphere, albeit a lot more dark and creepy.

Ayyyyyyy I played the demo on PS5 and its sooooo goooood. The soundtrack, the aura of the game. Also really liked the unique battle system. Really gives SMT feels in the story and atmosphere

As soon as I died in the demo I knew the casual mode wasn't gonna be casual lol I may give it a shot when it's dirt cheap and it's frames are fixed

A wise choice for most people. I'm buying this but I'm a hardcore, niche JRPG fan with money to spend. Have fun if you decide to give it a shot.

I played and beat the Demo and I have to say Monark seems like a game that won't be for everybody but will be a fantastic title for those that enjoy these genre of games. I'll definitely buy this since I really liked what I played. 🔥

I’ve been playing the Demo and DDAAAAMMNN it’s been amazing. Graphics are just alright and passable but everything else is on point. I hope you all give the demo a try, it’s not like it costs you anything.

Great review! I loved what I played in the demo, very unique game in almost every aspect. The psychological/horror in a JRPG is a huge advantage for me.

I'm glad you gave a bit of a brief history on Lancarse, I really do hope that people give them chance. A lot of their RPGs are made very similarly to classic 90's Atlus titles. The Caligula Effect 2 is another great JRPG that people unfortunately sleep on. I'm really looking forward to playing my copy of Monark, that creepy atmosphere is the exact thing that resonated with me most about the demo.

I got caligula effect 2 on a whim of seeing the trailer. And the graphics did throw me off at first and i definitely can see why caligula effect 2 isn't for everyone but I kept playing and it's fun dude. The fighting mechanic is unique and I like trying to keep the enemies in the air for as long as possible because it's enjoyable. I just think some people see games like red dead redemption 2 or the last of us and then you get a game like monark and they say " this is terrible why cant they get it to look like those games" because not every studio has the money and resources to create a game that grand and graphically advance. This is coming from some of the original smt devs but this isn't smt. They branched off and are doing there own thing 👍 I got the limited edition for this and I can't wait!

Between this, Triangle Strategy, and Advance Wars Reboot, this is the year of Tactics based RPGs (plus it sounds like Final Fantasy Tactics remaster/remake has a chance to release by the end of the year).

This looks great honestly. I played all the persona/smt games I wanted to play and now I’ve been frantically looking for a new turn based game, but everything failed at matching the same feel. This gives me smt vibes, getting it at launch. Haven’t decided which console tho Edit: just checked the release date, it comes out two days before I take a trip, so I think I’ll get the switch port to play it on the ride.

Personally if I have a "on the fence" feeling, I usually wait for a sale. I have a backlog of games and feel I can wait for this to drop to $30

I suggest trying the demo! I personally didn't think it was very repetitive since there is a lot of variety in terms of combat and puzzles! But in terms of how the game is structured; yeah there is definitely some similarities from a chapter to another

I was on the fence about this one but it looks super cool and stylish. The only issue is the switch frame rates. On SMT V it was jarring to enter a cutscene then partway through the details suddenly load in. How does Monark handle the cutscenes on switch? Also how do encounters happen are they visible on the map or random

Thanks for making this review! This helped me decide to buy the game or not! Probably going to wait for a discount though. If Steam doesn't give me a crazy discount like with some other games, then I'll settle for a smaller one. 60 bucks is a bit much for me, especially compared to other games with the same price tag. Other than that, I can see myself having a lot of fun with the battles! Unrelated to the video but your accent kind of tells me you may live in Germany. Is that true or am I just imagining things? Honestly, I like it, it adds a little bit more charm and character to your videos

I'm glad Monark didn't get the same treatment as Caligula Effect 2 (Being a PC Gamer and all and that we still don't have a PC Port)...meaning I'll play it but NIS made a bad choice by releasing Monark in the same month as one of if not the most anticipated game (JRPG) of 2022...YES ! I'm talking about Elden Rings. Hopefully it won't impact the sales. I'll buy it when released but I won't play it until I play Elden Rings (As many might do) Great video David, can't wait for Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The real ending grind gets annoying if you don't choose the right order of teammates to save. Using souls to both level up and buy items was an oversight and added more unnecessary grind. The battle system is fun with some characters, and a total waste with others. It's also overly drawn out when fighting on a medium sized level stage. Loved the character design (what little there was) when in battle, great look with the crown. Very nice plot, even better ending. 6/10. Above average, slightly, but too much of a slog.

I'm going to buy this game on launch because I'm really into the characters, the vibe, and the art style. It's going to be a VERY hard sell, a "recommend with severe caveats" sort of deal, and one I'd encourage people to get on sale. It may not reinvent the wheel, it has problems with performance and being an A/AA game made during a pandemic, and may just be average to most people, but I've got the sense I'm really going to love this game.

Before watching the review, i just wanna say I played the demo and loved it and preordered (i never preorder titles for series im not a dedicated fan of). Story is intriguing enough so far but my favourite elements are the combat, music, the light puzzle element (so far) and the horror-esque aspect.
