The Monday Motorbikes GEN7 e-bike is an absolutely stunning electric vehicle. I've never wanted an e-bike, until I rode the GEN7. Join us for a ride around San Francisco as I narrate some opinions on this stunning electric bicycle. At 45 mph and 170 lbs, this ebike may be closer to an electric motorcycle, than bicycle. Regardless it's a ton of fun to ride, and I can't wait to ride it again.

Can you give me examples of the best electric bikes you can take on the highway? I think you can with the alta and the zero. Do you need a motorcycle license to drive them? I live CA too.

@ssmatsusaka it's not cheap, but it definitely costs a lot less than you would spend on the same amount of gas. Figure a battery is good for more than 50k miles. How much would that cost in gas?

You can also get a rear luggage rack and a more visible tail light on the Onyx making it more practical as well. I’ve dealt with both companies and Onyx is also more friendly and much more professional than Monday.

Alien Rides onyx is better lmao 60MPH with 75 range that’s the best E-bike We’ll see for a while, only way to top that would be to have an E-bike that can push 100 mile range with 50 MPH+

This bike just looks cooler I think 40mph is the standard and once you pass 40mph it doesn’t matter what the speed is unless you like to go really really fast
@craigcampbell1843
@craigcampbell1843 4 жыл бұрын
The price is fair....if it came with normal features that traditional mopeds have always come with standard in the past like mirrors, turn signals that meet motorcycle standards and a tail light you can see from the sides so it could be ridden safely and legally on public roads without getting harassed every time you pass a cop. I’ve talked to the company and their response was that maybe mopeds just aren’t for me and that they are selling a platform that’s meant to be customized and personalized like mopeds from the 70s. I’ve been daily driving mopeds for over ten years and it’s true that things break and get replaced with better parts or just removed or get customized (mostly they break) but I should be able to ride it out of the box without putting more money into it just to bring it up to the way my $1,500 Tomos came from the factory. With blinkers mirrors and a visible tail light.
@AlienRides
@AlienRides 4 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from. So far most of these e-bikes don't have the road worthiness of older mopeds. I'm sure they will in time though, this is a pretty new way to get around.
@craigcampbell1843
@craigcampbell1843 4 жыл бұрын
Alien Rides I understand that. And that these are still brand new companies. Onyx doesn’t yet have all those features standard either but their responses to me personally have been much friendlier and more professional. If I have to add mirrors and blinkers myself anyway, I’ll go with Onyx. Cheaper lighter higher top speed and way better costumer service. 🤷‍♂️
@craigcampbell1843
@craigcampbell1843 4 жыл бұрын
Alien Rides at the same time I still feel like mirrors and blinkers just don’t cost that much and if you’re charging $4,000+ you should be able to provide a complete product instead of passing the work on to the consumer to do it for you.
@lochnessmonster4518
@lochnessmonster4518 4 жыл бұрын
The bike comes with blinkers. Mirrors are an addon option as are passenger pegs. I know because I have one and love it!
@craigcampbell1843
@craigcampbell1843 4 жыл бұрын
Lochness Monster if they can afford to add blinkers they could afford to slap on some mirrors. Also the company is California based but the blinkers I’ve seen them use are smoked and flush mounted which are both illegal in this state. You’re just asking to get harassed by the cops with that stuff on your bike here.

One of the best looking e-bike I've seen. Shame it's 4 grand if it was $3000, l would consider buying it. However e-motorbikes are expensive. It's seems like it's sunny every day where you are. In London it's the season of rain and cold weather.
@AlienRides

Yeah, it's definitely not cheap. I think that this company will most likely release a much smaller/lighter e-bike in the future though to be more approachable. We're definitely lucky here in California, but we did run into rain during this shoot.

Thank u for answering my questions. The people who design these bikes are good engineers but do not know anything about business aspect of this. for that much money, you can buy a powerful motorcycle that gives you 80 MPG and has a top speed of 90 mph. They need to get the price down so they can compete with these other bikes.
@AlienRides
@AlienRides 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, motorcycles have been around for quite a while now and are definitely better bang for your buck than electric vehicles. Battery technology is slowly improving, and I expect price per watt hour to decrease in the coming years which will help.
@Goso321

William Of course I do not buy it. I have a small Honda scooter that gets up to 45 mph, and on .6 gallon of gas goes 80 miles. I pay $20 per year for instance and $25 per year for registration. I will wave hello at you when you battery goes flat while I am going by you .

I'm surprised you weren't pulled over on that thing as it looks like it should have a plate in the back. it maybe classified as a class 2 Ebike but it doesn't look like one it's basically the equivalent of a 100cc scooter. In PA my state I'd be afraid to be pulled over on it imagine trying to explain to an officer "Oh no this is a bicycle sir I don't need to register it " lol would not fly in my state it would get confiscated and impounded.

I think you should say to check local laws in regards to the no reg/no lic. statement. In Pennsylvania, anything over 750 watts is considered a moped or motor driven cycle and requires registration, a tag and insurance as well as an M endorsement on your drivers license. Cool video though and thanks!
@AlienRides

Very nice video on the Monday e-bike. The only thing that I would have wanted to see is how the pedals actually work. Since it is a single speed; are you clown pedaling at a super fast speed? Also, if the battery were to deplete when you are out, can it be pedaled reasonably home? You also failed to state that the bike's speed limit is 20 mph on San Francisco streets. Kind of expensive for a 20 mph bike limited to bike lanes. Thanks for the video...I hope you do more coverage on the new models.
@AlienRides
@AlienRides 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the pedals seemed fairly useless at high speed, I just don't think the gearing is there. At low speeds or no battery you can manage to pedal, but I think you would be dead tired after a few blocks. I think this situation would be rather rare given the massive range though. I'm definitely looking forward to testing out other models from this company.

I'm a little disappointed in the product since I have not been able to utilize it to its full potential. Ive had it for about a week now.. The first few seconds of my first ride, realized it would not pedal. I was told the sprocket of my rear wheel is broken and caused the wheel not to spin when pedaling. On the 2nd day of riding the display completely shut off and went blank during the ride. I had to park, turn the bike on and off multiple times before it came back on agian. Its concerning and disappointing knowing that I've spent a hefty $4,500 for this bike and already having issues from the gate. Im still excited about the bike, it looks great, and have blast when riding. Just can't wait to get it working completely. Customer service has been very good, Angelo has been very responsive and in the works with getting me a replacement bike. But In my honest opinion, from the experience I've had with the product, , i would have gone with my other option (onyx) at around $600 less than the Gen7.

Yes. It uses the kelly controller. You can buy the appropriate bluetooth dongle off of the kelly website and use an android phone or tablet to access the controller settings. It's actually pretty easy. Alternatively you can also use a pc along with the desktop program you can download from the same site. The connector with which to attach the bluetooth dongle is inside the battery compartment. Slightly hidden but if you look hard enough you'll see that it's there.

This bike is definitely not street legal as an bike. Though the laws are not entirely consistent from state to state, there are 3 classes of ebike and the fastest is pedal assist with a max speed of 28 mph. Ebikes are a new category and policing may not have caught up with the reality of bikes like this so you might get away with this for awhile. What really surprised me is there is no license plate holder--at least then you could register it as a moped.

Do a review of the Chinese electric motorcycle, you just have to tell them to put bicycles pedals on to comply with the Ebike rule. You can get one for $1500 usd on Ali express. Out of box it should do 80kph or 50mph. With a 45-80km range with base, which is a 20ah lithium, I’ve seen people put 100ah lithium before for crazy range.

Interesting review! Bike looks a little "top heavy" with the battery being so high up - how well does it balance round & coming out of corners when going fast please? When we fitted our extra 2 batteries we fitted them lower down and found it really helps with the centre of gravity & bike handling. Great channel - We sub'ed.

There is scooter from NIU -GT that does 78 km/h and costs 4700,-€. It has 3000W (4000w peak) hub motor on rear wheel and no chain. In my opinion, the chain is just one unecessary modul, that is not necessary for electric vehicles. Just pure brushless servos integrated into wheel hub is all what is best. Every other additions just make the product more posssible to break and higher the maintenance . I admit this looks much better, i could still put wider tires on this Monday Bike and 90 im/h would be perfect for driving between small cities.range 100km is enough nobody wants to drive on bike more at 1 day.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. The Onyx copied Monday. Monday had this out with the Gen5 and Gen6 since 2015/2016 but that was sold sparsely and mostly hand built. The latest Gen7 was the first mass produced one. Onyx toured the Monday facilities back when they were still called Bolt well before they released the Onyx bikes. As for looks, that's a personal preference but I think the Gen7 is sexier.
