This was the first movie that made me feel like a kid watching my old VHS films. I was overwhelmed when I noticed the young children get excited seeing these great movie monsters. I never watched a Godzilla film for a deep plot, just a destructive force of nature. I hope it continues. Blessings!

So dumb! So fun! I loved it! Edit: What does it say about Hollywood in current year that I felt more empathy for a 100 ton mute silverback than any number of ‘human’ characters I’ve been subjected to over the last 10 years?

I'm glad someone enjoyed it - seen a few of these comments, I was bored beyond belief, it wasn't just dumb, it was overly complicated and made no sense, the "characters" were terrible, their primary purpose was to explain the convoluted "plot" and the action - which was all fuzzy CGI. I wasn't entertained, I was bored and baffled by the entire lack of quality in story, acting, editing (possibly the worst I've seen in ages) -- even the set pieces were mainly copycat off other films. It wasn't just bad, it was really dumb. And poorly made.

I'm ok with big monkey punches big lizard. The problem with the "Monsterverse" is the writers want human drama ( but don't have the talent to actually write that) along side their Monster fights. When you look at the showa era of Godzilla, those plots were absolutely bonkers and Toho new that. It's like they're trying to be absolutely bonkers and still be taken seriously. That is a delicate balance that only the most talented of writers can create and writers these days have no idea how to do that.

It fell short for me... big time. When i saw what they were doing with Tiamat i knew it wasn't going to land for me. Hype this titan up big time and from her firs appearance to death was 40 seconds... Wasted opportunity. Jokes weren't funny and the final fight was way to short and rushed. The victory didn't feel earned. Run into scar king and it's the first and only fight where they dummy him. He didn't feel like he earned the villain status the trailers made him have. Got the upper hand on kong, got pulled off and all of a sudden hid behind his titan pet and doesn't really do any fighting and doesn't land another hit after the first fight. KOTM is still my favourite, this one fell short big time.

You know why people don’t talk about the Monsterverse? It’s because, as a cinematic universe, it is inconsistent. Maybe I'm missing something. What about this movie was nonsensical, confusing, and hard to follow? That it has a few fantasy type elements? It's a pretty straight forward action flick and better than the MCU/DCEU have been in a solid decade.

My favorite [modern] Godzilla movie is the 1998 one (although it's not really Godzilla), for the 90s nostalgia if anything but authentically, King Kong (Peter Jackson) is the best out of the others and the time period fits, unlike Kong Skull Island

I caused chaos among my friends when I said Jackson’s King Kong looked 10x better than the newest one, and it’s nearly 10 years old!! I honestly believe that the more grounded a franchise is, the more realistic and sense it has to make. The mcu is more grounded because there is a lot of grounded movies even if there are a lot of cosmic movies in that Franchise. So therefor their movies made a lot more sense. But for the monsterverse, it doesn’t have to be that deep. It’s a monster movie, monsters are fantasy 100% so they don’t have to be as rational. Its job is to be more fun than anything. I think they are doing great. And the score show that people love them.

It was a fine popcorn flick for a series that already jumped the shark. Pink Barbiezilla isn't really intimidating in the way a giant monster lizard should be, and scale was a major issue in the film. Having kaiju vs kaiju doesn't work when it's only kaiju because the point of reference makes most of the scenes just look like regfular sized animals rather than kaiju. Also, whoever decided to use pastel colors for the poster with Barbiezilla should probably be moved off of monster movie projects. Oh, and the end scene where the mother is going to be noble by letting her kid go live with strangers in a kaiju filled cave after her last tribe became kaiju chow wasn't really as touching as I think they were going for. In short, just go see Godzilla: Minus One.

“Monkey punch Lizard” sums it up. Visually , mind numbing, entertainment is your thing that’s it in spades and super enjoy yourself. Sorry but as someone who’s almost Gojira’s age ( Toho) and a fan since I first watched the Showa movies incessantly on Saturday afternoons… a bit disappointed. I think quite a few of us were hoping on a bit more backstory on Godzilla. Instead we got a less intelligent, animalistic version of him. Supposedly the writers wanted to emulate the Showa era. Whose plotlines were admittedly weird so they got that right. But Godzilla was still shown as intelligent and had a wacky sense of humor in Showa films. Even in a suit the actor portraying Godzilla showed a wide range of emotions in body language . Here Kong instead got all the gags. His expressions were priceless and they did a great job there. I guess as far as it goes I like fries and shakes but I’d like a some meat with my meal.
@moviefreakdavid6662 ай бұрын
Honestly I can enjoy the film even if it’s dumb fun. With the Godzilla franchise the jumping the shark has happened so many times throughout the history that for most of us we’re just like, “it’s just a matter of time.” You are right on how fast and furious have done this but I think the thing that works for the Monsterverse is that the monsters becoming a bit like superheroes doesn’t seem as dumb as regular humans all of a sudden becoming superhuman with no explanation. Honestly I think the enjoying the dumb fun aspect of Godzilla movies is easier for those who grew up with the original Godzilla suit actor movies because we understood the limitations at those times just caused us to embrace the insanity. While for others it might be a tougher sell, those that are just joining the entire series through the Monsterverse as an entry point in a way will be surprised to learn this still hasn’t reached true insanity

the movie made sense. It was _nonesense_, but it had it's own logic. The films have all been 'out there' with the exception of the first one that tried to be a bit more realistic. Once they jumped from the 'realism' of Godzilla 2014 to suddenly there's flying spaceships and hollow earth and Mechagodzillas and all that sci-fi stuff, it was another series entirely. It's almost like they're doing their version of the Showa Era of Godzilla films which were a little wacky and out there, but a lot of fun. I can't get enough, they're very fun movies.

While the story is more Kong centered- Godzilla was sprinkled throughout the film nicely & when he did appear- it was always epic- He was like the Heavy- the ENFORCER of the film, if you will. This movie was made more for kids and teens but somehow still related to older fans and itvwas awesome. My kids loved it and everyone in the theater did too.
