The only negative thing is that the watch does not sit flat on the wrist as the case back is a little thicker than the case itself. But all the rest is already a bit boaring. No real changes in decades but the price! Let's see how many months or years one will have to wait in order to see or touch it.

I'm way more than old enough to remember when watches were only mechanical. You had to re-set them every few days because they drifted off by a minute or more. I have the Sub-41 and have not had to re-set it except for DST in almost 2 years. It's never been off by more than a second or two, forever.

I love reading your articles you guys are amongst my favorites but it's sad to see that the name of arguably the single most iconic watch ever was mispronounced and the name of the extension was completely wrong.

The tapered case was an excellent move. The 41mm was not needed but I can live with it. The 21mm lugs on the other hand, simply unforgivable.

Just purchased the 124060 41mm sub. It is 153 grams with 2 links taken out. 114060 40mm was 135 grams and more comfortable all day wearer.

Just called Watches of Switzerland in London (a huge uk chain of high pieces). Asked about the new kermit and no date sub as they have fixed some of the issues I had a gripe with and I'd only pay that much for a standard steel dive watch because its less likely to depreciate so much. The first thing they did was say its extremely rare but perhaps they could interest me in some alternatives....i said such as....they said new OPs, explorer, milgauss. Basically anything that would turn up soonish that they could get the sale on, regardless of what I want. I asked if its a waitlist process, they said you have to 'register your interest' in person. So you're not in an order. Now they have acted like they will never be there anytime soon, well not for me. So thats my first taste of the Rolex experience. Palmed off, I feel like a lesser client and asked to buy some watches that I dont want just so I have a 'Rolex'. Not sure I'll be doing that again, of course they don't care (Rolex or the AD), they are trying to manage exclusivity and sales at their respective businesses. They have ushered away anyone that hasn't spent tens of thousands with them already. What I dont really get it that they are not exactly haute horology, they are attracting flippers, back door deals and indirectly pissing off their actual fans. So, I'll pass on the steps up to a Lange and my Omegas will do fine.

I love Rolex, smaller lugs and new movement is excellent. However making is 41mm is disappointing!

Excellent review. The bracelet on this new 41mm Submariner is noticeably wider, compared to the previous gen 40mm Supercase. Despite the 'thinner lugs', I expect this wear bigger than the 40mm because of how much wider the bracelet is. Hope Rolex will continue to improve on the 3235 movement by making the rotor silent.... a loud swirly rotor in the 3235 is a downgrade in the user experience, compared to the silent rotor in the 3235.

In the last 20 years, the emerging market collector’s wrist size is definitely smaller so what is with the massive oversize clasp, oversize lug size and noisy movement. The BB58 is perfect at 39mm in case size, perfect 20mm lug size and thickness of just 11.9 mm….The new sub should have followed the same sizes as the BB58! The new 41mm is clunky compared to the perfect proportions of BB58.

As soon as you called it a Submareener, I switched off.
