The first time I read the lyrics, the one part that hit me the most was with suga himself at the start: "I want a big house, big cars and big rings, but the truth is I don't really have big dreams"...like...I felt that. Like, it's so rare to listen to new artist treat the topic of having dreams in such away. By no means they are making fun of the "I want money-type of dream", because it is something that is an actual dream to many people, rather, they focus on people that actually know the dreams that they have and for whatever reason, they decided to push away their dream...man...BTS got me from the start just with that.

12:18 BTW that was Jungkook This is the reason why we call him the golden maknae and I promise you the BTS rapline is insane and not just RM. If this is already making you react this way, you are not going to survive the rapline songs. I'll leave it at that.

Again, that was what Bang PD wanted to do from the beginning. He wanted a group to talk about what's real, whether it was in their lives or the lives of the people they want to touch. You talk about the call and response sounding like "Make money money" I always hear the line "see me see me ya" as "shimmy shimmy ya" lol. ODB tribute lol. Jungkook who did that rapping part you like is actually the main vocalist. In the beginning they had him rapping in a few songs. The age range of BTS at the time of No More Dream is Jin-20 (he's the oldest), Suga-20, J-Hope-19, RM-18, Jimin-17, V-17 and Jungkook-15. Jungkook joined when he was 13 in 2011.

They're not necessarily preaching education, but rather are ecouraging others to not get bogged-down in people pushing education/career stuff at them. It's a very important distinction in their music. 👏🏼👏🏼 They're telling people (students/young people) to live for themselves and think about their dreams and what they want. They're not exactly promoting an anti-school mentality, but they're trying to remind listeners that there are other ways to go about becoming successful and feeling fulfilled. 💜 On the other hand, the song is also telling people who act like know-it-alls (parents, teachers, typically small-minded adults) to mind their own business and worry about themselves, rather than preach to young people the importance of a 'proper' or conventional (and perhaps boring) future that would ultimately crush their dreams. And *that* why they are ARMYs' bulletproof vest. They protect and defend us. And we protect and defend them. 🙌🏼💣💜♾

I got into bts when I was applying for college 4 years ago and it was their school era that helped me through that time so it will always have a special place in my heart because the things they were saying were what my parents were saying to me. I didn't know what to do but my dad was harsh when saying I had to find something to do. it felt great having someone who was unbiased and didn't know me saying it was okay not to have something I wanted to do just slow down and you'll figure it out. I just remember crying so hard at like 3 in morning because I was so relieved that someone was telling me what I always wanted hear. I'm really thankful for that.

31:09 that was their debut song, that was their first title track ever, can you believe that! I had been following them since they started releasing their pre-debut covers and I was a fan of their covers and their lyrics back then but when they came out with this song (before we even had a fanbase name, we got our name on July 9 a few weeks after they debuted) is when I knew I was going to be in this for the long haul (music-wise), also the album 2 cool for skool was soooo good I loved/love all the songs on it.

@@aleshaw4762 oh yes it was a big risk on their part and also on big hits part. I can't tell you how many times during their career we were scared they were gonna get shut down. Even before they were well known they've always had the i'll say what I have to say attitude. But I'd say one of the reasons why they felt empowered to speak up as well was because big hit was supportive of that and encouraged them to be themselves. Another reason like you said is because of namjoon and yoongi's influences as well, these two are the og savages in the group and after being around each other for so long I'd say the other members were definitely influenced by them

i'm kinda late to this party but i'll comment anyway because i want you to know how this song fits into the musical scene that is korean music/kpop: it doesn't really. mostly because kpop in general is not supposed to be societal commentary. talking politics, mental health, more serious topics in the genre used to be and to this day is very rare. before bts debuted there were only very few artists in the genre who took to societal commentary. and there was almost none in the popular kpop genre who took it as their carrier path. and then came bts in 2013, these freaking teenagers at the time, and they debuted a title track that talked shit about the younger generation losing their dreams, and how dreaming is becoming empty and it's all about forced ambitions by parents, society and school. and this was just one song on their album. it's more hardcore than you'd think, to decide to come out with songs with not just undertones of societal commentary but straight up telling how it is. and bts only became more outward with it with each comeback. it still stuns me to think about how brave and purposeful they were since D-0.

AGES WERE RANGED FROM 20 - 15; JIN 20, SUGA 19, JHOPE & RM 18, JIMIN & V 17 AND JUNGKOOK 15. Before this Namjoon & Yoongi were in hiphop / rap underground scene, Hoseok famous street dancer for 10 years, Taehyung studied music & saxophone for 3 years, Jin didn’t have much of a music background and Jungkook tried out everything was good at it & trained taekwondo black belt. Between 2009-2012 they started forming and gathering the right members then they predebuted within 2010-2012 as a hip hop group but I guess it wasn’t sticking with the CEO, so it was decided they would be a Kpop Idol Group instead but their starting genre is hip hop & rap. *This is jungkook’s rapping era which focused more on his rap than now, because he is the main vocalist but also a subrapper. He gets the best of both worlds!* To honest I don’t even remember why they had jim in a Bulls jersey in the beginning while the rest of them were in all black & white outfits which throws off the whole outfit theme 🤔 and Lol they did have some crazy hairstyles especially RM 😹 I remember at one point he had pulled dreads (I think) I have the photo saved somewhere, if i’m not mistaken there is a short clip of video of him in the studio during this era where it shows that he had pulled back dreads and wearing sunglasses wherever he went....now he doesn’t wear sunglasses as frequently as he used to!
