Dracas42 when I was first starting monster Hunter 4 ultimate I accidentally guard pointed a great jaggie and killed it when I was very close to death and because I was a noob at the time now because of that lucky charm I pulled off I was practicing guard points ever since because I knew if I can get guard points wracked up I'll be able to stay alive with the tiniest bit of luck and health left and KO or even kill a monster my proud moment well I'd mostly call it my funniest moment XD is I KOED a diablos so I waited for it to get up and the next charge I guard pointed 1 last time and it killed it X'3

I never underestimate hunting horn user. they have saved me more times than I can count. having someone there buffing and healing you, as well as sometimes negating stamina consumption and wind, is a godsend.

+shinji777 When you fill up your phials, press X+A to do a shield Thrust, then press X+A again to go into the Final Burst, then interrupt it with R. You can also go into the Final Burst when in Axe Mode by pressing X+A.Also, during any combo in Sword and Shield mode, you can follow up in any of the hits with the Shield Thrust. In fact when I get my Charge Blade's shield charged, I simply go to the monster and spam X, X+A, X, X+A... It deals a reason amount of damage, charges your blade quickly again, and if you're using an Impact type and aim for the head with the shield, you're also dealing KO Damage, making it a good way to stun monsters without using your phials.

Not sure if you already know, but the first x attack after a phial charge has one blast of phial damage but only after the phial charge and if you have a charged shield every shield thrust you do after an attack does 1 blast of phial damage

+Blake Hindrichs while guarding you still take some damage, while guard pointing you take much less damage and can do a follow up atack

+Capitan Suzy You can still follow up from a normal guard but more often than not, the knockback will either be too much or make it so the follow up happens to late.

You are getting hit way too much then. Take a few moments during the initial encounter and try to read how and when she will attack. For the most part, she is simple to read. For example, Rathian will do a small backstep before she does the poisonous backflip. Avoid that, and as she comes down you can attack the legs. Basically take it slow, and don't get greedy. Knowing the monster allows you to know where the attack opportunities are.

The Fire Balls are a real problem considering how your armour is as flammable as gas. (Nercylla is really weak to Fire, so either practice dodging them, or get a better armour to deal with it.) Also, maybe a Thunder Element or Dragon Element Weapon would help, considering how it is weak to those.

At Low-Rank? Tetsucabra Armour, Resistant to Fire (Add in a Fire resistant meal that stacks, and your immune to the fireblight) and you really only have to deal with poison.

BaneKaikyo If you have the challenger skill it activates whenever the monster goes into rage mode.

I just made a Glaive set with Challenger the other day, and upon using it for the first time I found this was the case.... It just made sense and that was the conclusion I came to... Thanks for responding though. :)

Link Davidson bright red is challenger, dark red is peak performance (boosted attack when at full health), and blue is latent power (boosts affinity and decreases stamina consumption).

Marcus Beeman When u press R and X at the same time the shield is put behind you. Try to press X then milliseconds after press R it will do the same animation as X into R+X Expect it's instant and the sweet spot is right at the start of the Animation.

Glorious Grilled Ribs Uh... It's definitely not R+X, it's X+R. Press R first and you'll (or it's just me) never get a guard point. To know if you are doing it right, look at your character's animation. Mostly you get the GP by using X+R, but if you don't, there are two conditions. 1. You press the wrong button first. If you are facing the right direction to a monster's attack but you still get hit, that means you press R first :P 2. You're not facing the right direction, needless to explain Tips: if you're trying to block a head-on attack but you still get hit, and find your weapon is in axe mode, that's probably case 1. Hope these can help you :D

sorry for necroing but what are you saying? Just that you press R just after X and not at the same point? Its performing the same move though right like why does it make a difference?

In MHW you get a guardpoints while morphing no matter how you morph,right? Im not sure about it..amyways if itrealy is so its a great change Something should be hard to execute because it requires good knowledge of the monster,not because it has a very tight inputwindow

the regular block, just blocks. a guard point deals damage and you won't get knocked back as much. and like the video showed, you can knock out a monster with guard points alone. or you might knock down a monster during it's aerial attack, like a rathalos when it charges in claws first towards you.

Jonathan Funk If he was in sword and shield mode then yes. If he was in axe mode then it was just R. Axe mode guard point comes out more late while sword and shield comes out sooner.

Nacho Because you can follow a GP with an attack, and if you have a charged shield, you can deal Impact/KO damage to the enemy.

And it also charges your phials faster and doesn't remove much sharpness.
