Couple of things you've missed. 1. In blade mode, attacking after a sidestep goes right into the roundslash (attack 3 in the combo). 2. In axe mode, you can combo the X attacks: Rising, overhead, and then a second overhead which is much quicker. 3. The axe mode dodge attacks. 4. If your shield is glowing, the X attack from charging phials also does a burst, like the shield thrust; so you can charge phials, burst slash, burst thrust. 5. There's a guard point you missed, the 2nd sword attack (the one that swings over your head) has a guard point at the end.

Winterous I never knew about the upward swing guard point and need to test that now :o

He covered most of those in his original CB tutorial. Though he has never mentioned #4, which I found out by myself on accident.
@andivolkano489

Winterous I am actually pretty sure that your 5. is wrong. If your shield is charged, a guard point has some sort of extra glowing effect when you dont get hit. also I tried to get that guard point and still got hit. On top of that, having a guard point like that would really not fit the charge blade, as usually a guard point is used instead of blocking directly after an attack (you cant block directly after an attack, you can only guard point) and that doesnt fit this second hit guard point you mention. Also what exactly do you mean by 3. "axe mode dodge attacks"? PS: what I actually wonder since if seen it, morphing from a block to axe mode has some sort of glowing effect (the same that regular/proper guard points have) on the left side of your hunter. Is that one a guard point? its timing is like the "bad" idle R+X so its really hard to get, and yet I am not sure if it actually is a guard point or not. does anyone know anything about that?
@jpk190988
@jpk190988 9 жыл бұрын
Winterous I am not sure if you mentioned it but after you block or guard point you can directly use the burst attack. I find that very useful because if you block without knock back you can directly burst attack the head of the monster.

gaijin hunter One last thing you forgot to mention (though you did show in the Brute Tigrex fight) is that X + A after a successful guard point allows a direct transition into your finisher.

This new "Ultimate Tutorial." Is seriously helpful and I feel like I learned a lot more from this than the regular tutorials. The regular tutorials are great, but something about voice over just makes it so much better. If you intend on doing this for all the weapons, I 100% support it and can't wait for ones like the Gunlance.

Just gotta say, your guides are all extremely informative and relatively concise for the amount of information presented, They are super helpful for someone like me who knows very little about the game. I've watched like... probably 10-15 of your guides, and while I think having it voiced helps out immensely (you can focus more on the character when you don't need to read text), even the ones that only have text are wonderful. TLDR: Awesome work man, these guides are great, keep it up!

I've always been a bow user (literally on my guild card there's only bow and 0 uses for all other weapons, except for MHTri), but I always have a secondary melee weapon (one my friends occasionally uses a bow so I go melee when he does that). It was the long sword for MHFU, but I was thinking of either Insect Glaive or Charge Blade for MH4U. I'm on my way to getting the endgame bows so I was looking into the Glaive and this. I hated this and how hard it is to use but after watching this, now I love it and this will definitely be my secondary weapon.

It's nice to see such an in-depth guide, especially for a weapon as deep and complex as the Charge Blade. There are a couple of small things you missed about the weapon that I want to point out though. In axe mode, the basic XX string is normally an infinite loop, but if you hold forward+X after the downwards swing, you'll do a quick step-in slam, akin to the axe-draw attack. This may not be the most useful tip, as you very rarely use the second X attack in axe mode, but it's good to know about. The other thing is that you can press X after depositing your phials to do an upwards slash, similar to the second hit of the blade mode basic combo. However, if your shield is charged when you do that, you'll notice your sword crackle with energy for a moment as you swing. This slash actually packs a mini-phial burst when it hits, similar to the shield thrust. The same thing happens when you morph out of axe mode, assuming you shield is charged.

THANK YOU GAIJIN Theres almost no media and Information on Old world MH, and there’s not a good tutorial for the weapons in Game, I try to Main a different weapon for every monster hunter game and decided to use Charge Blade in MH4U but couldn’t for the life of me find a tutorial on how to use it until I found your video. I knew there was more to it, because i once played with someone who used it in generations during school lunches and i saw him making his shield red and doing this cool big move, and I had no idea how to do that and haven’t talked to that guy for like, a few years.

Hey gaijin hunter, great to see this updated tutorial. I admittedly haven't watched the whole thing, but I thought I'd mention something I discovered that I didn't see in the original video. So normally when you do the 2nd phial attack, that one where you swing the axe roundabout twice, and then follow with X, you do an upward swing. If you actually delay the X input, you spin around a bit and do an overhead instead. Useful if people are next to you and you don't want to launch them into the air.

Great video. I always love your content. One part of the charge blade I feel you missed is countering out of a guard (which is arguably my favorite part of the weapon). Pressing X after a successful guard will switch into the weapon into axe mode. Pressing X+A after a successful guard goes right into a finisher move. I've messed up monsters with this sort of counter. I usually try and have attacks hit my shield so I get a free finisher (along with actually blocking the attack [and don't forget the impact damage with a charged shield!]). This is definitely one of my favorite weapons in this game. So much versatility. And the amount of movement it has while attacking is unreal. If I'm too close to another hunter after toppling the monster, shield bashing and charged A attacks allow me to get space from them while constantly attacking the monster. #chargeBladeOP

remghoost Excellent point, and I kept waiting for you to cover this since you were kind of down on Guard Point ("Why use this when you can just guard?"). Those counter moves will allow you to pop off ultra charges right after a monster attack, so don't neglect them!

It's crazy how your videos get better everytime. Not only the visuals but also the content. I'm really glad you took out the bottom text, it's easier to follow you now. Maybe you could link the motion values, though or show them at the end of the video? And for everyone who's too clumsy for the R+X guard point, you can switch your "special attack/ kick" to the start button so instead of timing two buttons you can just press start for the GP. Keep up the good work! :)

Hey gaijin, do you think you could add the damage values for each attack for the charge blade? I've seen you do that in other weapon tutorials, but none of your charge blade ones from what I recall. I'll repeat this again, because it's also one of those things I did completely wrong in the beginning. From Sword mode: [Hold R]+X results in a quickswitch to Axe mode, incredibly useful. Press X FIRST, and R immediately afterward, to hold your shield in front of you for a GP, and THEN switch to axe mode. [Hold R]+X When the monster is down. X+ immediately R When the monster is about to go ham on you. You can also go to your options menus and select that you do a Kick by pressing start. (This is a bit more viable on the New3DS, because of the conventional START button) Doing so will make you Guardpoint+Switch, simply by pressing START. You can also use the START button in the middle of a combo to GP, although I actually find there is less handcramping if I use R+X while in a combo. On the N3DS I actually find it more useful to just use the START button to GPswitch while idle in sword mode, rather than doing it from a combo, like it was the case with diablos, because I can move into attacks that would otherwise not hit me, if I had used a GP that required me to combo before the monster is actually in range. Special monster note: Rathalos family, only GP their charges if you're 100% sure they're not gonna chain a fireball. (Do so by running TOWARD a charging Rathalos and GP when he is extremely close) Rathalos only runs to where you originally were when he initiated the charge, so if you're still there, you think you might be able to GP his charge, but instead he'll stop right at your face, and blast you with a fireball, right after your GP. (Suck it, hunter!)

Love this weapon. I certainly agree, it's one of the more difficult/complex weapons to get the hang of in the game but definitely a very versatile weapon once you do; the infinite combos and atk transitions are indeed just soo smooth and highly effective. IMO, Probably more diverse than the Insect Glaive, regarding the newer weapons. And from what I personally like to do in combos, [and am glad this was covered because I really never see anyone do it, either] is the finisher jump from the Shield-Thrust, while I have regular phial charges (no charge in the axe/shield at all) because you can actually get a lot of those in on a downed monster. It's surprisingly fast for multiple Impact/Ele hits and a great way to get excessive hits in if you're fighting off the Frenzy. Also, wasn't particularly covered but (just to say) something else I like to do is- when the monster is down and I need charge, I like to do the Round-Slash repeatedly. I just X a BUNCH while side-stepping along the monster's body. Very quick to get charge and keeps me in place while doing so as well! Overall still, good work man. Kudos.

Really good uptdate to your previous tutorial, and about the armor and skills that go well with the charge blade, I use the Silver Sol Armor (Skills: Fire Atk +2, Weakness Exploit and Razor Sharp), if you use a Fire Element Charge Blade you can deal a huge damage and break parts very easily, if you battle a Monster that is resistant to Fire I use the Demolotion Blade (Brachydios).

Was looking up help for monster hunter world(First time playing a monster hunter game) this was super helpful, I did not know about the ability to charge up the shield instead of the axe, or the extra super finisher. Though I believe the guard points was expanded onto the slide attacks(Since you never mention them I assume they were added into the new game) Basically right around the end of your slide attacks after doing the spin swing your shield is briefly in front of you as well. I've done it accidentally once or twice, I thought it was just me holding the guard button somehow and getting into guard position one frame before I was hit, but now I believe it's this mechanic. Thanks for the detailed explanation

I imagine you would have found this out by now, but also in world you can charge your sword while your shield is charged (hold triangle to charge the sword during the phial load animation). personally I find the introduction of slide attacks in MHW really obnoxious and it ruins the flow of several weapons.

Gonna be honest, I did not, I saw that move and thought it was kinda slow and dumb, but if it's charges the blade with for elemental damage when the shield is charged I'll remember that. As for the slide attacks, I don't really have a problem with them. I don't use them as much, but atleast it's there when I feel I need it.

First off, you rock, Adam. That said, for a comprehensive/ultimate guide, it is lacking. The most important thing you missed is the ability to counter our of blocks. You even demoed it at the end! I think it's a huge thing for many monsters, especially if you're in range to counter off a roar. Being able to counter into the Super AED is something people should know how to use. On a lesser note, there's a sword attack you missed. If you press X after storing phials (I think it's X, it may be x+a, but I'm away from my 3DS at the moment) you perform an overhead slash that has a free burst on it. It's less damage than the GP/shield thrust (intensive testing was done with folks over at GameFAQs), but it certainly does phial damage. It's a nice way to switch things up and keep the heat on the monster as a player gets better.

1 move you didn't mention is that when you charge your phials, you can press X to do an upward slash. What most don't know is that when the shield is also charged and you do this, the blade comes out with a mini burst that's very similar to the shield thrust's. In fact, if you aren't focusing on status or elemental attacks, this is a more offensive option over coming out of charging with a shield thrust and doesn't waste a phial like hitting A does. Also, after a side step if you press X, you will do the roundhouse swing.

***** One other move he didn't mention that I've found kinda useful is when you are in axe mode and doing the X attacks, after the downward part of the swing you can hit back+X to do a quick second downward swing. I've found the infinite X loop useful for chopping off tails that are hard to reach, also tends to tear tails of downed monsters off really quickly (as long as the weapon is fully charged).

I don't know if I missed it. But you can also switch to axe mode by pressing "A" Right after any type of guard.

I was hoping to see a mention of what I ended up calling "round spam" which I do often for highest blade damage against large/slow/downed monsters. After round slash you can evade/sidestep, obviously, but after a sidestep the hunter immediately uses round slash if you X. You can basically just fight with roundslash if you reposition with your tilts in blade form.

Also note that after pressing your guard button you can side step. You can infinitely side step using this mechanic or reposition yourself nicely with L camera/auto target.

I don't know if anyone will find this useful but you can also do a double-sidestep if you press R+B+Left/Right after your first sidestep.

I also find that Charge Blades are one of ,if not, the best weapons in the game to utilize Blast blight. With the addition of shield bursts, it can really rack up damage, make monsters flinch and easier to break parts.

In addition to the Skills you mentioned I'd like to add a few skills that directly affect Charge Blade attacks and properties: - Focus: Makes your Phials charge faster. However, I found the standard ratio of the CB to be sufficient enough, so you might just want to go for another skill - Any level of Artillery: Boosts Impact Phial Bursts. Do not waste slots on getting anything higher than Artillery Novice though. Eat for Felyne Bombardier instead. Artillery Novice and Felyne Bombardier actually add up to the same level as Artillery God. - Guard +1 or 2: Reason is pretty obvious, it lessens the amount of knockback, damage and stamina you recieve/lose when blocking. - Guard Boost: Makes impossible-to-block moves blockable. One could argue though that you ahve no buisiness getting hit by those anyway. -Evasion +Any and Evade Extender: Evade +3 will cover all 16 frames of you sidestaps, Evade Extender makes repositioning easier. None of these are a necessity though. I personally found myself comfortable with the Dokodomi set in addition of the Seltas Helm X. Gives Honed Blade, Razor Sharp, Guard+2 and Artillery Novice.

DarklordAbraxas imo blade mode is actually too good to even use focus. and mentioning focus, one could also mention load up. it makes your number of phials 6 (and all 6 get loaded by red), which is nice but by no means necessary, just like focus.

Andi Volkano That's funny, because I personally spent most of my time in SnS mode and only use Axe when an opening is apparent. ^^ And Load up really increases Phial number? I didn't even know, tbh.

DarklordAbraxas He means that Focus causes you to overcharge more quickly, forcing you to waste time charging phials when you haven't used the last set up yet. Guard Boost is actually quite good against Gravios/Black Gravios because you can just hit him while he's gassing (or using rage mode straight laser, which always has faster gas afterwards), guard point just before the gas hitbox becomes active, and then counter super burst. Helps a lot since you'll otherwise lose a lot of time trying to roll away from the gas (and usually have limited success in doing so). Not to mention being able to block the lasers themselves and counterattack the head.

Celestial Spark Gravios's gas is unblockable? Hm I see that would give the skill some actual utility.

DarklordAbraxas Purely out of curiosity, how come anything beyond Artillery Novice is not worth it, in your opinion? And for that matter does Artillery God not stack with Felyne Bombardier?

Very good tutorial. However, I feel compalled to point out that there's one more attack you didn't mention: After you store the energy from you blade (R+A), you can press the X button to do an upward slash while drawing the blade from your shield. Its like the X combo 2nd hit but a bit faster (It also looks cool :P). I know what your saying: "So, wait, that it?". Not quite. You see, when your shield is charged, that attack actualy has the mini-burst effect the shield stab(X+A after attack). Its not a big deal but followed by that same shield stab it can add up fairly quickly for more burst KO-ing or elemental damage.
