my first impression of Aknosom was a Crane ... but now that i know the Yokai inspiration behind it, it's even cooler. I love this monster's design so much.

For the second part: Somnacanth is probably based on a Siamese Fighting Fish: Fighting Fish are known to have extremely large fins that are used for communicate with other specimen but also other species essentialy saying "that's my territhory go away" since they're highly territorial. (They're also used fir attract mates but that's not important fir now). Somna on the other hand has too oversized fins and, if you take a look at the commercial they did last year, you can clearly see Somnacanth doing a roar while still colied. In that same immage you can see Somnacanth opening full its fins in a fan-like shape in a similar way on how Fighting Fish show their fins before attacking. And then Somnacanth head is shaped in way that is similar to a Fighting Fish but with the eyes looking foward Also as a bonus Fighting Fish live in South East Asia and the Jungle part of Flooded Forest (I mean not the ruins) is based upon South East Asia's jungles (mainly because of the Flooded parts, Lily Pads, wich aren't found in American and African Jungles, there are some rafflesia flowers here and there and a few other things like theese). Also the drum patter on its belly is based upon many fish species that have fake eye patters for protecting the real eyes during ambushes. More in particolar the Saint Peter's Fish since it has the eye pattern on its belly like the monster itself. I wanted to point it out since because it moves like an otter everyone keeps forgetting that it's based on a fish too.

This was a really interesting read, thank you. I do like how Somnacanth's huge fins play into the mermaid aesthetic but also correlate to real animals; one can imagine it flaring out those fins to make itself more imposing to its enemies, which might make a rival predator like Jyuratodus think it's too big to handle and retreat.

The Crane aspect of Aknosom would be comparable to other birds as well though I did consider mentioning it initially!

Aknosom's body literally takes the form of a crane which some species have a red dot on their forehead resembling an eye, coincidentally. Also, they made Great Izuchi a raptorial Bird Wyvern not just because the similar traits it shares with weasels, but the concept of pack hunting monsters as Kamaitachi are known to attack people in a pack of three, just like how Great Izuchi fights opponents with two of its lesser kind.

I do feel you’re right with all the animals you mentioned, but I’d like to add some things Great Izuchi: The weasel is 100% correct, but Izuchi has also been shown to have influences of snake in their design, namely to give them the slit lipped appearance of the Kuchisake-onna Tetranodon: They we’re mentioned to take inspiration from crocs and frogs too, namely the Emei moustache toad, and possibly some reference from the Waxy tree frog. Their palms seem to mimic that if a bears as well but I’m uncertain. The platypus influence I never saw, I just assumed they gave them a duck bill but I can kinda see it now. Aknosom: Their base design takes reference from the Red crowned crane as well as the Royal Flycatcher and Black Heron- the scales along their back might take some small inspiration from caimans or crocs but I can’t really say for certain

The design and inspiration for these monsters are all so cool, can’t wait to fight them all in the main game, I enjoy the great izuchi fight in the dlc but I gotta say, I’m really excited to fight tetranadon especially, he looks really funny 😂

Aknosom is basically a Crane/Heron with a umbrella on its forehead. Tetranadom, my favorite, is a platapus with frog legs, tadpole tail (you can see it under the fur), turtle shell .... lovely !

Like they use khezu as represent the yokai "rokurokubi". Khezu based on one of developer nightmare if look how rokurokubi represents in myth and pop culture like anime and movie "a girl got curse of bad karma and trun to yokai with a long neck can stretch ability turn there face to frightening or demonic look and smile at there victim before there drink blood" see how khzeu kinda act like her even his khzeu new rise pose has that rokurokubi vibe to him unlike other poses normally which he all was in ceilings the rise pose fully on boo👻.

One of my favorite inspirations is how Rakna-Kadaki emulates the pelican spider, also known as assassin spiders. Pelican spiders (of the spider family Archaeidae) are unique among spiders for possessing 'necks', an extension of their head that other spiders lack. This is a tool for preying upon spiders, since the neck allows the pelican to simply arch above them and impale them on their elongated fangs past the reach of any retaliation. Of course Rakna-Kadaki has an extendable neck that lets her lash out with deceptive range. Fortunately for Nerscylla, it doesn't seem like Rakna is a spider-hunting-spider. Yet.

I’m kinda conflicted on the first monster you talk about because I’m having a hard time believing that the great Izuchi is based off of a Weasel the weasel-like Yokai i can see because of the claws, but an actual weasel your pulling my leg, because it looks more raptor-like then weasel-like.

The Frog aspect is there on the hindlegs, its a similar anatomy other amphibians have, which allows for great leaps regardless of weight. However the full concept and design for this monster combines different aspects of other amphibians with Platypus being its most prominent, hope that helps!
