This is the short video I meant to release this morning. For those who witnessed the terrible raw footage of my weaving with the TV on in the background, I humbly apologize. That was never supposed to go public, and I'm very sorry.
Making yards and yards of tablet weaving, made on a Monster Loom as a gift for Largesse.

Tablet Weaving Pattern Generator (TDD):
* jamesba.github.io/tabletweave/
NEW How to use TDD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmPy6...
Yarns:
* Maysville Carpet Warp, which can be found at several different weaving supply places (I often use WEBS at www.yarn.com). It comes in more than 70 colors on an 800 yard spool for about $9, so it can be used in a number of projects and the price is very reasonable.
* 20/2 or 60/2 silk from Eowyn de Weaver on Etsy. Each cone is $30 and comes in 18 different colors. There are also small 100 yard spools that run $5 each and comes in more than 2 dozen colors.
* Pearl cotton, size 8, which can be found is most craft stores in a bunch of colors.
Sewing:
* I use 100% linen from Linen-Store.com in the IL019 weight for my tunics. The quality of their linen is very good, their prices are very reasonable and shipping is fast! Use "ILOVELINEN" in the discount code for an additional 7% off!
Cards:
* 2 1/2" wide (63 mm) made on a 3D printer, a pattern designed by my husband. Free downloadable patterns of other tablets are available on Thingiverse (this one is not my pattern--we are still working the kinks out of the design but these cards are Oseberg reproductions: www.thingiverse.com/thing:180...)
* 3 1/4" cards from Schacht Spindle Company, which run $8 for 25 cards. I love these because they are colored on the edges and they are thin but very durable. Similar cards are made by Lacis but without the colored edges.
Music by Jon Sayles: Aufzug - Entry Dance from Fairy Queen; Hornpipe from Fairy Queen; Nightengale.

Your final product is just gorgeous, and I'm so happy to learn how many nautical miles you ended up with. It's so important to know how to measure in nautical miles. One never knows when one might encounter a pirate in need of some excellent tablet weaving!

No worries. I figured something was up when I saw that it was titled "Raw footage not for upload". : ) Thank you for showing us how you shifted the warp; I was wondering how difficult that would be on a loom of this size!

Actually, I enjoyed both videos, both raw footage and the edited version. 12 1/2 yards!!! That's a lot of work and it turned out so beautiful! And it was interesting to see how you wove in the tail at the end. You should be proud of this project.

So beautiful. As big as that loom is, it’s still not very wide, and could slip easily between two cabinets or between a desk and the wall. Doable!

@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 No, we stayed warm and cozy, all undeserved, while you stalwart souls near the Strait did without. My shriek was the result of seeing you cut through your lovely work after your Homeric labors! It’s windy down here now, though. I won’t begrudge you a lady-like snort of satisfaction the next time Seattle is huddling in the dark. You know it’s bound to happen!

I saw you warp this one up and had to try it, too! No monster loom at my house but I get close to 3 yards on my little loom. I am loving the pattern. The reverse of this one intrigues me, too! Reminds me of the mountains of home. Thank you!

So well done! You demonstrate all the qualities required of a serious artisan, which in olden days would have granted a living. Maybe one day again... Patience, persistence, resilience, always learning something new, a willingness to see your mistakes and go back to rectify them, a perfectionism that is not obsessive but practical. Also the "largesse" thing, basically volunteering your personal skills for your community. As a lifelong crafter, I've always felt these are just the qualities required of a good citizen, a good and meaningful life generally. It's not just keeping your hands occupied, there is a much deeper life lesson, and satisfaction, from this kind of work, whether it's weaving, woodwork, gardening, baking, etc. One of the evils of our modern world, that these skills are not usually rewarded. It's only kept humans alive for millenia! Thank you for your continuing generosity in posting these videos.

You answered something I'd been wondering about here...how long the finished piece would be. I am just now finishing up 15 yards of weaving on a Glimakra band loom (regular weaving, not tablet-weaving). That's a lot of work! You got yours done much faster than I have.

@AnonymousXIII

So, in the process of weaving this project, are you slowly transferring the tension from the back peg to the front? It seems like when you rotate it, you don't resume the tension on the back peg at all, instead tightening the tension on the front peg? Or did I miss a step?
@elewysoffinchingefeld3066
@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 2 жыл бұрын
I was mainly using the front tension bar at first, but eventually, I had to shift to using the back, and then a little of both--the tops of the tension slots are a bit narrow and need to be broken in a bit more, so I was going back and forth.
