The Australian Bruces skit from The Flying Circus
I do not own any of this material it's all courtesy of Monty Python at / montypython .
I only upload these videos because i'm tired of all the shitty quality ones on youtube.

At the time this skit was filmed I was studying Philosophy at the University near Woolloomooloo. It was rowdy and contentious, actually splitting into two separate Philosophy Departments. Poofters were well represented. The Bruce in-joke is that all Australian hairdressers were supposedly gay and named Bruce. This is typical MP cross-over humor but they did a remarkable job of capturing the Genius Loci. My mates and I drank Tooheys Export Pilsner. I never heard of Fosters until I returned to the US.

Yeah, you and every other Aussie I’ve ever heard from say that you guys don’t actually drink Foster’s and that it’s unclear where the idea that you do came from. My friends said that Victoria Bitter was the actual Aussie beer.

What is Australia coming to if this goes unchecked. [when I was a kid we have Barrys and Marys. Which brings to mind, one we called 'hairy Mary from the Dairy'.]

At the University near Woolloomooloo around 1970 there were a number of popular Marxist lecturers and courses, but I think the split in the Philosophy Department was due more to the underlying Epistemological differences.

In the first place, you couldn't accurately or honestly define "woke" if someone duct taped an alarm clock to your head. In the second place, on the subject of using the word "snowflake" as an insult, no less than John Cleese opined: "‘Yes I’ve heard this word. I think sociopaths use it in an attempt to discredit the notion of empathy." In the third place, as someone who leans liberal and left himself, this skit is funny as Hell. And in the final place, the only people who are as obsessed with "poofters" as right wingers are often often in the closet "poofters" themselves. Have a lovely life being miserable.
