That skydiving scene at the beginning is still one of the most incredible stunt sequences ever filmed.

Not gonna lie, still one of my favourites. Sure, you can look at this 'now' and think it's a joke - but through the lens of the era, it was phenomenal. probably my most rewatched Bond!

Moonraker (1979) is highly entertaining and my 2nd favorite Roger Moore 'Bond' Film. Moore is at his charming best in the role of '007' and 'Drax' is a brilliant villain !!

The basics of the Moonraker novel plot were used in Die Another Day

This was, is, and remains my favourite Bond movie of all time. Probably because it was the first Bond movie I was old enough for my parents to take me to in the movie theatre (and me to understand most of what was going on) but also for the sheer cheeseball charm of it. Jaws first scared the hell out of me, then charmed me with his goofy love for his nerdy girlfriend who were clearly NOT destined to contribute their bloodlines to Drax's new world order. The absurdity of Space Marines launching from a NASA shuttle to battle Drax's Space Facists was just so awesomely goofy and yet well filmed that it stays with you like ST:TMPs amazing sfx. I just don't have enough space here to gush about how much love I have for Moonraker. Thx!

First Bond I saw in the theatre when it came out :) I was a wee lad, didn't get the double-ententes at the time, but it was great fun for a Bond film. Much better than the lost Lazenby script for "Ballraker", where Bond investigates a plot to take over the world's VD clinics.

Okay, so hard-core James Bond fans might not have liked Moonraker that much, but there was a reason that it did so well in the box office...and I and millions of others like me are the reason: You needed to be there at the time, when sci-fi space adventures were the big thing...heck, they were the ONLY thing! Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Alien and numerous others (some of which are better off forgotten) were popping on to cinema screens everywhere and Moonraker was part of the trend. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, it was there for the fun of it and, as a 15-year-old sci-fi fanatic, I was right there in the middle of it. Remember also that this was at the time when home video entertainment was just on the verge of becoming a thing...in fact in Australia, we were lagging behind in the home video revolution so cinema-viewed movies would still be the main source of entertainment for a couple of years yet and the excitement of going out to the movies wasn't going to die off for quite some time. So summing up, Moonraker wasn't just for James Bond fans, it was for fans of movies of the era as a whole and there were a heck of a lot of us around!

Another out of this world review. Loved the book and always wished they had at least kept in Bond's first encounter with Hugo Drax when he works out how Drax cheats at cards. They probably thought it would be too similar to 'Goldfinger' I guess. Still, it has Sir Roger at his flippant best and it's a great testament to the work of the special effects and technical personnel involved.

Moonraker along with Star Trek: the Motion Picture and Walt Disney's The Black Hole was released at Christmastime 1979. All had action-figure time-ins [ more shades of Star Wars ]. All were entertaining by my estimate although truthfully of the three Moonraker spent the least time in space.

Moonraker was the first Bond film I ever saw in a theater. Being a kid fresh with Star Wars fever I loved it but over the years I've had a change of heart. It's merely okay but it copies The Spy Who Loved Me way to much. Thankfully Cubby Broccoli followed up by getting back to a more spy-action movie with For Your Eyes Only.

Loved this film, still think the scene where Drax sets the dogs on the women in the woods is one of the most frightening in any movie I've ever seen

Keep forgetting Bond (Commander Bond) was Royal Navy, not RAF. Had he been ex-RAF, the idea of Bond in space may have made more sense (since at least in the US, airforce personnel are often recruited for the NASA program).

Drax was good baddy, loved the design of the Space Station but the laser affects were a bit crap but it was a good story

Wile E Jawsote was not the best decision to take, but Richard Kiel has such an endearing performance that it's impossible not to like. Despite his more menacing presence in "Spy", but it all goes so far over the top that Drax's space station would have to shift orbit without getting hit by it. The visuals are sumptuous and impressive for the time. Arguably better than Star Wars in some scenes. Many hold up amazingly well, the camerawork and perspectives do much for it. Drax rules. Definitely has verisimilitude, which works much in its favor. Especislly when coupled with enough looney tunes comic relief scenes that attempt to derail it. Some stunts were beyond stupid (who else will gondola make a fuss about that overdone scene? 🤣) The movie was not bad until they got to space. It takes "over the top" to a new level. Nice usage of the stunt double clips! May Day did the villain-turned-goodie routine better. 2:58 "For Your Eyes Only" even goes after that with the Bibi Dahl scenes! 🤣 Moonraker wasn't my favorite Moore outing, but he had worse. Indeed, until they get to space, Moonraker wasn't half-bad. It's a real curate's egg, though.

A bunch of my friends and I went to see this after school when it was released. Our major, unceasing gripe was the clownification of Jaws. The entire theater audibly groaned at his character "redemption." Boo.

It had Moon 🌕 in the name but Moonraker didn't go anywhere near the Moon just low Earth orbit.

Moonraker was the first Bond film I ever saw when I was a kid, so my tastes were locked on Roger Moore for many years. After seeing more of the Connery films, I realized how much of a spoof Moore had made Bond, and I became less impressed by his films. Ah well. But at least Moore's Bond never drove an invisible car!!

I am honest: That Goodhead-joke still totally escapes me.

Roger may not be the “best” Bond, but he is my favorite because his reign occurred during my adolescence…and, from that point of view, Moonraker is my favorite. Saw it multiple times in the theatre during it’s initial release. Interesting fact, the space shuttle plays a prominent role in this film, but the official space shuttle design had not even been released publicly at the time of it’s filming and release. No one had ever seen the now easily identifiable space shuttle before….and then it actually happened within a few years after the movie.

The idea of killer Jaws finding love and talking in a Bond film seems a bad idea but it works and the young small lady; it is fun and Jaws then by him and her"imperfection" realises they wont make it so he helps Bond and actually that makes sense Remember this is all fictional so it all meant to be larger than life and over the top and Moore does play it for laughs but it works ok and Moonraker has so much in it and locations and the space set and all very well done for 1979. The opening of the Marines shuttle pay load doors it good but the men are too big out of scale for the payload bay! haha Goodhead is good but very serious and chemistry with bond? hmm, The Bad guy is very good and beautifully played by Lonsdale giving so much class alongside bonds well dressed and "civilised" demeaner; the days of the British and when men wore suits and acted nice even when killing you! haha. One of my Favs and only space bond so they put a lot of work into it and it shows even if a little too much comedic sometimes by Moore...

Funny, the sci fi parts shown here look very good, especially for that time, Moore was my favorite Bond as a kid and in general since his Saint series, and I'm a sci fi fan, yet I saw this when it came out and remember being very disappointed even though I can't recall what I disliked or anything at all about the movie. I'll have to see it again; it looks entertaining in your video.

To be honest, I prefer Moonraker over The Spy Who Loved Me. It has a much better villain who has a lot more personality, the Bond girl is slightly less wooden, the effects are great, the score is more fitting and grand. I like that Jaws came back, and I like that he got a redemption arc. The plot is also more enjoyable, and the action is decent.

This one's my second-favorite Bond film of the 1970s, after Live and Let Die. It fixes my two biggest problems with the previous film (an unconvincing female spy and a bland villain) with some superior casting, and while it's a terrible waste of a fantastic novel, it's the only "funny" Bond film of the decade that completely works for me.

Easily the best Roger Moore Bond film. Sure it’s over the top, but Lonsdale’s Drax is the best villain he’d faced off against since Donald Pleasance as Blofeld, the globe trotting locales were amazing (although the gondola chase was ridiculous), and the production design and effects still hold up and are the most spectacular we’ve ever gotten from a Bond film. Drax’s jungle lair in particular is an amazing piece of work, as is his space station. Yeah Jaws is corny, but he and his girlfriend actually serve a plot purpose. It was all downhill from here for Moore - For Your Eyes Only feels pedestrian, while Octopussy and A View To A Kill are both absolute train wrecks.

As much as I like Roger Moore, Moonraker should have been his last Bond movie. I think you can't top Bond going into space and having a laser fight. In terms of his looks, I don't find it a problem until the next film.

As a kid I loved Moonraker, although not as much as Spy Who Loved Me because that had Barbara Bach and even kid me thought she was hot. Now, I still like Moonraker, and I still don’t like Lois Chiles, who gets my vote for worst Bond girl based on my legit male gaze voting system.

in the bottom right corner of the Moonraker facility shown at 2:12, there appears to be a Jupiter 2 from the original 1960's Lost in Space TV series. Perhaps it was included as a reminder to the audience that they had indeed seen more ridiculous sci-fi than the failed attempt at entertainment they were watching.

I'm gonna be a pedant here and point out that Moore was into his sixth decade, not his fifth. When you're in your 50s, you're in your 6th decade: 1-10 = 1st, 11-20 - 2nd, etc.

The normal adjective from the noun combat and verb 'to combat' is combative. A recent tendency has developed to give this an extra syllable: combatative. This tendency should be resisted.

IMO Moonraker WAS TOO cartoonish! I was 10 when it came out. I loved The Spy. It was fun. This was a hot MESS. JAWS...🤢!!! I'll skip this one. I'm a big 007 fan.

Airplane 2: The Sequel

The 1st Bond film that I truly hated-just horrible. Its silliness was on par with TV’s Batman.

First Bond film I saw in a theater. Meh. Entertaining enough for 2 hours and the space scenes looked good; but, pigeon double takes and Alfie Bass do not help. Michael Lonsdale is a plus and I loved watching him in Day of the Jackal. For a while, it was kind of sad that a shuttle flew in Moonraker (5 or 6 of them), when NASA had yet to launch one, after a long period of development (and I had an uncle who worked on the project, at Rockwell). For Your Eyes Only made up for sitting through this (except for the revamped score).

I actually liked the comedy Jaws.

The wonderful problem I find about the fifth of the shuttle is that there is no fuel tanks on it to be able to be using atmosphere because it uses CO2, I’m good knows how they go away with burning the 747 because amazingly there is no flames up the back the only time those frames out of the bag is when the big yellow cylinder is connected to the bottom what is the fuel source

It lost its credibility in its first scene. Not only was the shuttle never fuelled whilst in transit, but it also couldn't fly like a normal plane even if it was fuelled. It glided down from space to its destination. Those main rockets on its tail were for getting it into orbit, not for being used like jet engines on a normal plane.

It was amazing how they correctly predicted Elon Musk with Drax's character, they are the same person with exactly the same plan. Except for some reason we dont want to stop Musk.

The script for Moonraker is CRAP!! Written by Christopher Wood best known for the Confessions series of soft porn movies in the seventies ( Window Cleaner, Driving Instructor etc) He didn't have a clue.

I mostly liked this one... but dang, that pigeon moment. Felt like it was mockingbird anyone in the audience who wanted to actually like the movie. Robin us all of the experience, when there was no reason for it to be there at owl. Whoever came up with it was on a lark, puffin themselves up, but they shoulda just made a swift exit. They want us to swallow it, but it was a fowl decision indeed, and for all I care it can Fleming-go. ...I did this better elsewhere
