That is a nice presentation of the Black model. Watching it carve is quite revealing of how it can do fine work. The fire was good to see too. Always fun, thanks Dave.

it is a cool knife but if Mora would just straighten out the spine on the Robust I'd prefer it over the Bushcraft black, for price and comfort. but i have to admit...it does look very cool ;)
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 9 жыл бұрын
SpartanJohns As far as price and comfort, the Robust is a tremendous knife! I just sharpened the spine and forced a patina and it is every bit as capable as the Black. That being said, I also like how the Black feels in my hand (I never got the blistering that you got in your video)and I like the slightly longer, wider blade on the Black. Both such great knives..I love Morakinv! Great to hear from you, Denis! -Dave

I have had one of these for about 3 years and love it .It is my go to knife. I do not baton with it because I carry a hatchet. I have no doubt that it would hold up to some batoning. I like it because of the light weight and the price. Great video as always.

Great review, Dave! Thanks for pointing out that the blade is blued, and not specially coated as a lot of reviewers state. But I just compared this blade to the Companion Heavy Duty (similar to the Mora Robust) and the two are very similar. The blade is the same thickness but the Bushcraft Black is 5mm longer than the Companion HD. I do like the improved sheath and the notch for the finger, which the Companion HD doesn't have. But the Companion HD is a lot less expensive - and for some strange reason the price of Mora knives seem to have spiked recently. So I think I'll have to get out my jar of bluing and see if I can improve the Companion HD rather than but yet another Mora. I think 16 is about enough (for now) I'll post a vid with the results soon.
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 9 жыл бұрын
Alberta Bushcrafter Thank you for watching, my friend! I appreciate the kind words. I think that once you sharpen the spine of the Companion HD and/or Robust and force a patina, these 1/8" knives can do everything that the Bushcraft Black can...for half the price! I know exactly what you mean about buying more Moras..lol! I look forward to your video results! -Dave
@AlbertaBushcrafter
@AlbertaBushcrafter 9 жыл бұрын
I've been looking into forcing a patina, and it seems that even with all of the DIY treatments out there nothing beats plain old gun bluing. I've treated a couple of blades and the stuff acts way faster than anything else. I'm going to try to treat a few of them today and hopefully if the rain hold off I'll have a video up in the next few weeks.

I have a Bushcraft Black. Love it. I re-profiled the edge to a true Scandi grind. It's a Bushcraft razor... However, I also have a Companion in carbon steel. The spine is sharpened with my diamond sharpener. I gun-blued that blade and also re-profiled it to a true Scandi. The blade is just a wee bit thicker and longer on the Bushcraft Black. But is it a better knife than my Companion? I don't think so.

Say Heah Dave, Yeah, I researched and I have a Mora Clipped #840 MG. My blade is rather thick. Like I said, years ago, I bought it on a close out. It's a Frost Mora. But since my Fox Bushcraft Parang is in a Military Green its almost a perfect color match with my Frost Mora. Yeah, I really always thought it was a good knife just not my style. Considering some of the knives I have, and besides black goes with everything, I could always find a knife to match it with. I bought my 3V Master Hunter for that. But after realizing how well my Vic. Rangergrip did with it, I think the Frost Mora will be just fine. and besides, its vintage.,,.

HighCarbonSteel Love Thanks for another great review, Dave! Have you seen the Mora Bushcraft Survival knife yet? It is a little out of my price range right now, although still reasonably priced. I am considering the Craftline HighQ Robust, what is your opinion on that one? I am still only using my Granddad's ancient Old Hickory butcher knife. Thanks again. ~Kitty
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 9 жыл бұрын
Basic Backyard Bushcraft Hi, Kitty, thank you for the kind words! I believe the Bushcraft Survival knife is this Mora Bushcraft Black with an enhanced sheath. You cannot go wrong with this knife but you are right, a bit more expensive than the other Moras and in my honest opinion, the Mora HQ Robust is a very comparable knife to this one. I have a few videos (including a recent Morakniv Monday) on the Mora Robust and I love it. One of my favorites. It's has an outstanding handle, is 1/8 of an inch thick like the Bushcraft black and is every bit as durable for half the price. All you need to do is sharpen the spine with a mill file and it will do everything this Bushcraft Black does. I would HIGHLY recommend the HQ Robust. Thank you for watching, my friend, and I hope to talk with you again soon! -Dave
