Morality and Music As A Magic System?!? - Fantasy Worldbuilding

Күн бұрынWhy are some creatures/ people good and others bad? Why should these labels exist anyway? Is there a way to explain why this dynamic is used in almost all fantasy novels in some way shape or form? How can we subvert typical representations of morality and make a unique magic system that takes morality into account?
This video outlines how creatures with innate light or dark affinities fit into a moral hierarchy within a fantasy setting and how this then feeds into their unique sources and outputs of magic, as well as their capacity for free-will within a fantasy worldbuilding setting.
As mentioned in the video, this discussion does not feature or explain all of the creatures and races within my worldbuilding project, and there are also more complex and diverse ways which this primary system will be built upon and shifted. If you have any ideas please let me know! I would love to make this process as collaborative as possible.

Thank you! Yes this project originally began as a sculpture project for my Fine Arts Degree - it has since become a passion project haha

As a finn I read Ö as the vowel in 'learn' and everytime you say it o I'm surprised lol

Hahah you're definitely not the first person to make that connection. My reasoning behind it was that - as a symbol I've always thought of Ö as resembling like a proto-emoji of sorts. And being that the citizens in the universe have the belief that their goddess has brought about all of creation through song - I thought that a really succinct way to encapsulate that would be to represent her with the symbol of Ö as it kind of looks like face singing hahah. I did a bit of research after the fact and learned about the real-world pronunciation and usage of it so I do apologise for the confusion!

Fun fact: In the real world, the umlaut ö is pronounced like the "u" in "burn" or "turn".

Yes indeed! It’s common in a lot of Germanic/ Scandinavian languages isn’t it? My reasoning was just because I wanted something simple that looked like a person singing, because the people believe that their god has sung everything into existence haha
