I’m glad you found some goodies. I love mahalia jackson. JJ Cale in the dollar bin is unbelievable. And then you pull a Stills out. Wow. Then you throw Big Pink. Holy moly!!!! Vanilla Fudge…… I’m just beside myself. Well done Chris. You hit the mother lode.

Lots of cool records in this video. I like that J.J. Cale record, especially that second song called Traveling Light. That version of Shotgun on the Vanilla Fudge record rocks! Great version. The dollar bin lives! Have fun listening BluesGuy!

Hello from New Zealand. I like your T-shirt. I wear caps like yours too. I like Mahalia Jackson too, i own a copy of a recording of her live in concert at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958. She was the queen of Gospel. Good bargain finds. From Carl.

Steven Stills was always the best member of CSN. Natural born singer/songwriter talent. I saw the original CSN with Neil Young. So it was CSNY at Live Aid in Philly back in 1985. That was a long two day show. I say two day because it started at 9:30 am and went until 2:30 am the next day. David Weinstein {aka "Bernard Watson"} opened the show. He camped out in the parking lot for a few days before the show and asked Bill Graham if he could open the show. Bill agreed. The rest was rock and roll history. Bob Dylan, Keith and Ronnie closed the show. Anyways. Always good to see you Chris~ Rob/Boston

Hi Rob. Out all the CSNY crew, I like Stills and Neil Young the best. Found a few Stephen Stills and CSN/Y albums over the years and am never disappointed. Sounds like you had a great time at that Live Aid show... long as it was. Thanks a lot Rob. Good to hear from you... I hope all is well out there. Cheers!

Hey Cristian. I did pretty good. They all cleaned up nicely and sound good. The Carnegie Hall one has some noise, but it's pretty old. JJ Cale originally wrote "Cocaine' that Eric Clapton covered. Thanks and have a good one. Cheers!

Oh i meant to mention i had JJ Cales Troubadour album on vinyl in 1976. I bought it because i liked the Traveling Light. The second single lifted off the album was the song Cocaine which topped our NZ pop charts in 1977.

Cocaine was a big hit here in Canada as well, first by Cale and later by Clapton. Just recently got into JJ Cale... I enjoy his work. Thanks again. Cheers!

Nice finds. My local’s clearance bin is $4. In the summer they do a sidewalk sale once a month and they get marked down to $1. I usually walk away with a little stalk of “I’ll try that for a buck”. I’ve also snagged some Mahalia Jackson at a local charity shop. Wow, big pink and vanilla fudge for a $1 are a great scores! I’m ready for spring! Thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot. Yes, 4 out of the 5 record shops in my area had $1 bins 3 years ago. Now, there's only 2... the others all start at either $3 or $4. Recordland across town does a once-a-year dollar record sale... found some nice stuff there in the past. I think having a wide musical taste helps with the cheapo bins. Cheers!

Very cool finds Chris. Seems like $5 bin is the new $1 bin in a lot of stores now. I’m going to Vancouver next week and will be visiting my honey hole that has an amazing $1 bin section. Nice JJ Cale and Stills. Cheers.

Yep, it would seem so. There used to be a lot of record stores with dollar bins. Now only 2 in my area. $3-$5 'cheap' bins seem to be the future... even for the same old dusty Anne Murray records. Even so, I did pretty good here with this score. Very happy with the Cale, Stills and Vanilla Fudge too. The Band Big Pink is outstanding! Thanks a lot. Cheers!

That is a good Stephen Stills record, really the only one I need, surprised you didn’t have that one yet. I do have a Manassas album. Big Pink for a Buck, that was a heck of a find. I have a box set with all of their albums. Huge score on the one Chris.

Hi Unk. I agree, excellent Stephen Stills album. I really dig him and actively look for his LP's. I have tons of CSNY, but only a few Stills solo stuff. Both Vanilla Fudge and The Band were a huge surprise in the $1 bin for sure! Thanks and have a great week. Cheers!

Nice finds Chris. I think Troubadour also has the original of Cocaine on it? I remember picking it up in the noughties and loving it. I got my copy of the Stills album while helping to clear out a charity warehouse and the cover was half-destroyed by mould, but I kept it. Check out Ringo Starr's great drumming on 'To a Flame' . Nice Band find. Cheers, James

Hello James. Yes, I messed that up... JJ Cale penned 'Cocaine.' Either way, great album. Also glad to scoop up the Stephen Stills. I quite like his work. Thanks and take care. Cheers!

JJ Cale wrote Cocaine. Not a cover. Hootenanny at Carnegie Hall is a cool find. That first Band changed everything, as much as Revolver or Jimi Hendrix Experience first album did. Eric Clapton was still in Cream, when he heard The Band. He said he felt like a dinosaur with what he was playing. The Band was so fresh in comparison. Nice $1 finds !

Hi Jonathan. Yep, I got that the wrong way around. It even says that it's written by Cale right on the album and I still fudged it. Oh well, great LP. Music From The Big Pink is a masterpiece album. Have had it CD for years, glad to get a vinyl copy... a dollar is just icing on it, you know? Thanks and take care. Cheers!

Great finds Chris. Creating a collection on a budget and no spin about who mastered what with what equipment…yawn. JJ Cale’s Troubadour was introduced to my life as a young surfer in 1976 hanging at in Byron Bay Australia. San Juan Surf Shop dude was playing it in his shop and recommended it. My love of JJ Cale continues from that day- 64yo now. Don’t forget that JJ Cale was one of Eric Clapton’s greatest influencers and a life long mentor to EC as well. Dig those Blues!

Hi Ray. I got that reversed, didn't I? Clapton covers Cale's 'Cocaine'... it's written by Cale. Very good album. This only my 3rd LP by Cale so far, but I always keep my eyes peeled for more. Thanks. Cheers!
