wow great collection of howlin wolf albums, i remember reading an articale many years ago that stuck with me that his voice is like whiskey soaked broken glass being dragged over hot ashphalt, spot on love that voice, my albums are on cd, a sun records comp, a two for of howlin wolf and moanin in the moonlight, two best of chess records and a two cd deluxe edition of the london sessions, i need to keep an eye out for some vinyl, stunning collection mate, cheers chris

I definitely need more Wolf in my collection. Considering he’s my favorite I’m really short on his albums, only have 5 and a couple are second rate represses. Lucky enough to have seen the great man at the 1970 Ann Arbor Blues Festival. Great video and information.

Excellent collection and great info, Chris. I first heard Howlin' Wolf on a CD called '20 R&B Classics that Inspired The Rolling Stones' (or something like that), which I picked up for about two pounds in 1993. It had Little Red Rooster and Smokestack Lightning on it. I have a couple of good CD comps but alas nothing on vinyl as yet. I remember reading that he was a great reader and scholar (he looked that way with those glasses!), and often used to be seen reading books away from the bandstand. Btw, one of my biggest musical regrets is not going to see Hubert Sumlin when he came to play at a small pub in Leeds in about 2001. Can't believe I missed that.

It was great seeing 78's from your collection. You don't see many people in the VC talking about shellac records. The only blues artists that I have on 78 are Lowell Fulson and Amos Milburn who was more jump blues. My Lowell Fulson is "Sinner's Prayer" on Swing Time. Those are some nice Sonny Boy Williamson records. Did you ever hear Randy Newman's song about Sonny Boy Williamson I. I'm jealous of your collection. Keep the 78's coming.

That's a cool stack of records. I was glad to see Dinah Washington sneak in towards the end. I've seen 45s that had two different artists (one on each side) but I didn't know they did that with 78s too. Makes sense I guess. Thanks for showing the records BluesGuy!

man theres some sweet blues on 78 there, they are all to cool, that frank hutchinson 78 thats nice man, cool early b b king love 3 o clock blues, little walter classic and louis jordan, yes please more 78s would be good, finally got that collection 60 plus 78s, 40 plus 45s and LPs, 78s a lot of R n R 9 elvis, 6 buddy holly, 2 little richard everly brothers lonnie donigan and johnny otis show and a load more, not much blues sugar chile robinson and larry williams and some soul stuff, the champs love them, LPs mostly junk, but a few good ones, the johnny otis show album first press and clarence clemons, some jazz, 45s more R n R and a nice chuck berry on chess with the sleeve and a roy brown, having fun digging through it all, cheers chris cool video

Hello Chris 👋! Great video, and congratulations on your 5 year KZfaq anniversary 😀! I like that Pete Seger, Willie Dixon, and Memphis Slimm album condition! I had found that very same album. The vinyl is VG, and it has the book, but the cover of mine is warped (not the album, though 😅!) It's been so long since I've listened to it, and you've inspired me to dig it out and listen to it again. What do you think of it? Did you listen to it yet? In a historical sense, it was very surprising to find out all of them actually came together and recorded it.

Chris.........Sure don't see 78 rpm like those you got. Most of the time they're swing stuff and Reader's Digest big band orchestral etc. Are you able to play them. Does your turntable have 78 speed? Good scores.

Hello Chris; Some very nice showings of Blues artists on 78 rpm records. Hopefully you did not take too much of a shellac-ing, (ouch) when purchasing these recordings. The Bluebird sides are Sonny Boy #1. Bluebird was an original RCA subsidiary, hence Nipper the RCA dog on the label. Sonny Boy #2 started his career on Trumpet records, pre Chess. Chris. We all should have diversified tastes in music. There are such great bands and artists that are out there both past and present. While my collection is heavily filled with jazz and blues. I also have many LP’s from The Band, Grateful Dead, NRBQ, Jefferson Airplane, Delaney & Bonnie, James Brown, The Byrds, Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan Waylon Jennings. The list goes on. And looking back each one of these has several shots of blues in them.

Nice video Chris - always had you down as a man of diverse tastes music wise so no real surprise! If you were to take a casual look at my own collection you would probably put me down as a Jazz fan ( which I am ) but if you take the time to look closer then you will find Blues , Classic Rock , Classical, Afro beat , krautrock and Prog in there to ! 👍

great video chris, i think having a broad taste in music is so cool im the same love not only the blues but metal/glam, country, crooners, jazz a bit, 60s jangle pop, surf/drag/instro big time and rock n roll/rockabilly/psychobilly and 80s pop rock, some great choices man the scarecrow and all JCM albums awesome, rare earth and aptil wine hard to find over here but have got one rare earth and its great, that leon redbone album with michigan j frog on it made me smile so cool, as for brian setzer love, have all his albums on cd man the big band stuff wow, cheers chris

Hi Chris. Great albums by great artists. I am mostly a blues gue like you, but I do like a lot of other things, as you do. I have a number of Rare Earth, Leon Redbone, StrayCats/Setzer and April Wine albums. I never got into punk so have, never liked it. April Wine albums are difficult to find here in Australia. Most people have no idea who they are, but I still always keep an eye out. Maybe a trip to Canada might e on the cards.

I saw Rare Earth a few times in Bakersfield in the early 70’s. I remember the drummer was the singer. Dead Kennedys were great live though sometimes Jello would talk too much.

I have that Climax Blues Band, and nice pick up on on your 1963 Blues comp ! Interesting Pete Seeger, Id buy it as well with Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon.. Cool ! Lonesome Dave Peverett takes over on all vocals after Chris Youlden jumped ship to try going solo. Good to see you, Chris !

Congratulations on finding the RSD late arrival. That tour sounds like it was incredible. The Pete Seeger record really looks awesome. So cool that you found the original 1960 album. Really digging the looks of that American Blues Festival from 1963 Chris. Where did you hear about that one? Also. Did they release any other years or Blues festivals? Love the fresh cracking sound that the gatefold jacket makes the first time you crack it open. I never knew that Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon played on a Pete Seeger album. Interesting. I never really got into the Climax Blues Band as their one hit did not seem to be the blues. Were their earlier albums more blues oriented? I picked up another RSD album yesterday, a store still had a nice selection to choose from. Always good to see you nephew

wow some cool pick ups, that blues festival album is pretty sweet, love that savoy brown album and the cover is so good, JLH black night is falling i have on CD from 2004 on just in time records, says in the liner notes that it is a series from this label from the 200 seat club, also have the ray charles album on CD would love all these albums on vinyl, cheers cool stuff chris

Onya Chris. Another down to earth realistic reflection on overrated RSD (dare I say it). It is starting to catch on in Australia but mostly in the cities. Regional areas- well, most people will walk away from a crowd queue and the frenzy this creates. Some of those titles listed are nothing special which detracts as well. The search online or elsewhere second hand continues for titles that I really want. RSD should be an everyday thing…
