WHAT HAPPENED To The 2016 NBA Draft?

The NBA in the summer of 2016 was CRAZY. The Cavs had just pulled off a 3-1 comeback in the Finals, Kevin Durant was getting ready to jump from the Thunder to the Warriors in free agency, and a HUGE cap spike allowed for a ton of massive free agency contracts… but before all of that, we had the 2016 NBA draft… a class that had super high expectations and one that certainly would not disappoint in terms of WILD storylines.

Picking up Murray to play with Jokic was the absolute perfect pick for Denver man. And the moves since then have been prefect. Just beautiful roster construction for that run.

I'm still in awe that the Wolves could have had a lineup of Dunn (who's been decent to good in Utah), Lavine, Wiggins, Lauri, and KAT but traded it for one year of Jimmy Butler.
@Shortballa11
@Shortballa11 7 ай бұрын
that wouldnt work out. There was no alpha dog with Lavine, Wiggins, and KAT. And Lauri needed opportunity to breakout. In Chicago and Cleveland he couldnt find his rhythm. Dunn is a great defender bt at most he is a back up guard in the league. At least Jimmy got them to the playoffs for the first time in 20 years.

@@mrvk39most scouts are actually very good at their job. The reason why most of these “busts” go so high, is because owners, GM’s, and coaches will override or flat out ignore the scouts recommended picks for their own bias or whoever their heart gets set on. Also, some franchises will allow fan opinion to influence their pick too.

@@Noles4life77 you might be right! I've never been inside an NBA board room to know what owners and GMs do, but I suspect they DO veto and approve some key decisions - definitely big FA signings and big trades but also maybe lottery picks too. Generally, if an owner micromanages to a point he selects draft picks, the Franchise is in trouble.

Kris Dunn looks like he could become one of the most surprising career revivals of all time honestly. From a virtually a whole season out of the NBA and in the G-League to looking borderline elite in a short stint with Utah and following it up just this week in preseason

I’m not going to lie, as a Bulls fan, I wanted Kris Dunn badly, in the draft year before, and hoped he slipped down to the Bulls to draft as a backup PG/future successor to Derrick Rose. However, he went back to Providence for his junior year, and ended up being drafted higher (rightfully so), but seeing him play for the Timberwolves and my Bulls, I was quickly disappointed with Dunn’s play.
