"You say in other interviews that you're now celibate?" "Mm" "Is that true?" "Yes, I'm afraid so. I don't have a certificate, but I can say that I am." "Is that part of The Smiths mythology?" "Not really because the other 3 members of the group are quite the reverse." I love that he didn't say something crass or lacking in wit.

kaisersoze508 “[..] every high-school’s gay kid [..]” Morrissey can hardly be described as just ‘gay’. There’s also the dynamic of his high IQ to factor in, which homosexuality does not magically grant by default. Not to put him onto some sort of unearned pedestal, but Morrissey happens to possess traits pertaining to creativity, introversion and high cognitive ability, all of which - relative to the wider population on average - are a rare combination in unison. It’s this mixture of traits that account for his ‘fascinating’ character type, at least in my view.

What a great interview! (so far I've only seen this 2nd part). Morrissey seems to be such a reasonable and likeable guy - someone you would like to talk to for hours and have as a friend. The more I hear him talk about it in these older interviews, the more I am convinced that something bad may have happened to him as a teen or young adult. For someone who wrote furiously, you'd think they'd know some alternative phrases to "I wrote furiously," on the fourth or fifth occasion. Still love The Smiths though.

I love him as anyone knows but he's a strange one. Most people don't quit having relationships (affairs, whatever) and become celibate just because they've "had a few bad experiences" 🤔
