Morse Taper Size? It's Easy To Check!!

This video will show how easy it is to remove your drill press chuck and measure the Morse taper you have in order to know what size you need if you decide to go with a Morse taper to Weldon 3/4 shank adapter for annular cutters, or other optional accessories.

I have that same drill press, The chuck usually just falls out if I look at it funny. Never had to use the tool to remove it. Wen said that was normal when I asked for a new one.

do you get different size openings for the actual drill bits for a no 3 taper? Or do they all open up to the same size?

I'm not sure on that. The drill bits I have are specific MT2 taper and it is stated on the storage tube they came in. Thanks for watching!

Hello sir thanks you for your nice video. Im new to this i just bought a lathe and now i want to buy a live center and a chuck for the tailstock. So now im trying to understand what is a morse taper and what other type they are and how it works. Some help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Clement, I don't have the knowledge to help you on that. I go by what the owners manual specs on the tool in question. In a nutshell, the industry tries to standardize things like tapers, and chucks, etc., but then a new product comes along all while there are a few million of the older tools with these tapers, stocks, and chucks. All with different sizes based on the power required to turn the machinery. Thanks and good luck!

Clement, if possible consult your owners manual on the tool in question. You can also Google morse taper as there is lots of info on that. I just don't have the knowledge to discuss. Thanks and good luck!

An inch is 25.4 millimeters. You can do the fast conversions on any search engine like google. Thanks for watching!

I don't think this model has a quill lock. After reading your comment I looked through the owners manual again and nothing is mentioned about it.

@@pmtips4482 Even the cheap ones have a quill lock, even though they don't know it. It's totally useless for most things where you'd like to lock the quill, but for this one thing it's useful. Just pull it down and tighten the nuts on the spring on the other side of the press. Also, great info about figuring out which MT size you have. Thanks.
