Someone donated this rifle in .308 to my charity hunt group. I put a good vortex scope and rings on it. I was a little bit worried with all the reviews I saw. I bought two boxes of federal 150 grain JSPs because I had seen several videos that showed heavier bullets not grouping well. Once it was dialed in, my 3 shot groups were all touching, so sub MOA. I did use a lead sled to eliminate my error. So, happy with the performance of my freebie. I do have the synthetic stock.

Appreciate the review on this one. Backfire had a horrible time with this rifle. And I want to love this rifle. It takes several good reviews to reinstall the confidence to buy a firearm after there's been a bad one.

Thanks for the video. I have the Patriot Revere model in .308 with a Leupold 3-9x40mm VX-2 scope and I get 1" groups at 100 yards shooting from a bench rest. I don't have any accuracy issues with my rifle.

Thanks for the honest review. I'm watching from the Yukon Territory, Canada. I just bought a Mossberg Patriot and it came with the Vortex 3-9x40 scope chambered in .300 Win Mag. In September I'll be going out moose and bison hunting (buying the 200 grain for those suckers). I realize having a tight grouping really isn't that important for hunting, it's more important to have an excellent first shot. So, I'm hoping this rifle will be "good enough" to take anything about 400m or closer.

Nice rifle. I hunt white tail with my 30-30 Henry. I do have a rem 700 .308 with the magpul furniture takes the aics pattern mags. Got a vortex up top and a Harris bipod underneath. Thing drives tacks. It’s one of the 26” some odd barrel and I’d like to get it cut down - maybe 20” maybe 18”. And also I did snag a Geissele super 700 from eBay and man that thing is sweet. Got a 6pt buck big body, 18” spread. Upstate NY. Chasing a big doe - got to 70 yds, i give him the ole “ayee !” And he stopped, turned broadside to me and I let it fly. Dropped on the spot. 170gr CoreLokt. Thanks man.

Hello from Slovakia. Best results with my moss .308w is 2" from 100m (109yd) with 180gr FMJ with moderate load (40,1gr D073.4 czech lovex powder) and with 150gr SPCE with small load- relatively slow (37gr D073.4 lovex ) Lovex D073.4 is same as accurate 2230.

First off, I like the channel name and the whole vibe. Not having to prove expert status or elite background. Just people, guys and gals, who like to shoot and hunt. When I got into rifles about 4 years or so ago (I had shot some before in the 70s,) my first one to buy was the Mossberg Patriot .308 Win combo with Vortex 2-9X40 mm Dead Hold (second focal plane) scope. It kicked hard. And I would use the fingers of my off hand as a cushion. I still have that rifle, among others. It did approximately 1 to 2 MOA and I know that was mostly me. In fact, with any of my rifles, the fliers and drifting was just nearly always me and I start out assuming I am the one who needs correction. I totally believe and understand Ryan Cleckner (1st Ranger Batt. 75th Ranger Reg. Sniper Team Leader) that the human is the least accurate part of a weapon system, such as a rifle. I put the Patriot in a chassis system. Turns out that made the length of pull too long and I have a hard time getting a good eye box on the scope. Still, it was averaging 1 MOA with a hot barrel. So, I have migrated it back to a Mossberg synthetic stock. I still have the black but decided to get an OD Green. Much lighter. I still had to raise cheek comb with craft foam and vet tape but I have a good eye line and eye box, now. And an Arken SH4 Gen 2 4-16X50 mm scope, that I might change out to a 6-24. And give that a try and probably get as good as 1 MOA because my shooting technique has improved. I discovered a secret for consistency. Don't concentrate on holding exhale. For some, that is the comfortable respiratory pause. For others, not so. The key is to find the moment of calm, whenever that is, even at the top or near the top of a breath or top of an exhalation. It is your moment of stillness. That is the time to fire, ignore the heartbeat. My Mossberg MVP LR-308 averages 1/3 MOA. My Windham Weaponry R16SFST-308 (AR-10 style rifle) hits dead center of the cross hairs. I like to call that sub MOA. My Thompson Center Compass II .308 Win is averaging 1/2 MOA. At closer distances, I am going through the same holes. As in, not making the holes bigger. Going through the same holes without making the holes bigger. So, my intention is to do that with my Patriot. As I have become a better shooter, I have also learned to not suspect a problem with the equipment.

@@countryboyreviews Update, I put the Compass II back in the chassis. I had discovered a possible problem with the Patriot synthetic stock. There is no metal bedding, pillar, or otherwise. There is a gap in the rear action screw guide. I could never torque down enough. But the rifle is accurate and yeah, if you hit in the diamond, that is a dead deer. So, now, I have just picked up the Mossberg Patriot Predator 7 mm PRC. My chassis will arrive in a few days, so I am not even going to bother shooting and zeroing in the factory stock, even though I like the pattern of the strata-camo. From the factory, trigger pull is 2 pounds 12 ounces. I may shave that down when I transfer to the chassis, Get it around 2 lbs 8 oz. I expect 1 MOA. I figured out the problem with the Patriot .308 in the MDT chassis. I needed a cheek pad on the cheek riser. So, I put one on from Goda Grip and now my cheek stays in one place with a cushion and I maintain an eye box. And that rifle shoots 1 MOA after 60 rounds. AEn eye-opener for me was the Hornady podcast on "your groups are too small." Meaning the sample size. You can take an $10k rifle and think it is .25 MOA on the first 3 shots. Shoot at least 35 and if you want the real truth, shoot 200 rounds and you will find these quarter minute guns are shooting 1 MOA to 1.25 MOA. And then the great wailing and gnashing of teeth will begin. I know the main complainer you are talking about. And he is just about the only one to report problems with this rifle. And he named a son after another rifle he really likes and prefers. so, I don't know if that leads to bias. Maybe he just got a bad rifle. The other rifles, he will overlook their problems but this one, he would not even adjust the trigger, which is adjustable.

I have a mossberg Patriot.308 with a Nikon 3x9x50 scope with BDC and I get nickel groping with 5 shots at a 100 yds the key to this is to know your gun and scope , and 1-1/2” at 300 yards . you really need to know how your gun shoots take your time with it and hold the gun as steady on the gun stock, the least amount of movement is the best shooting with a floating barrel. try it out and have fun and see for yourself.

I bought a Patriot Krytex 22250 that had a defective trigger that warranty replaced before I even shot it. When it came back I ran my borescope though it..SWISS CHEESE. There was galling, chatter marks and area of gouges. Worst BARREL I've ever seen. High areas on lands where copper was literally ripped of the bullets. I Sent pictures to Mossberg and the reply was.. It's safe to shoot..lol

Backfire channel reviewed one a couple of times. Based on the results he got, it is the only rifle I will roundly criticizes as a pile of garbage. That's not just marginally true. It's well within the zone of true.

If you watch backfire his shooting technique is crap, he has the sling stud on the bag, when he fires the gun jumps to high hell. I get Moa under and inch with patriot nightrain. Came with a muzzle brake, shoots great hornady nitro with the plastic tips shoot great 150 gr, winchester 150 deer season shoot great as well. I found that the patriot is a very light rifle, and if you apply downward pressure on the forestock into the sandbag your groups will tighten up. It's just a very light gun with no real weight to it so it naturally wants to jump up.

@@Jeff-re1gp I'm not defending Backfire. I'm only relating an observation. It's not like he's not familiar with a host of brands, ammo, and tests where he's had to have come to grips with technique by now, how to apply consistency to the brands he's featured.
