Our next stop along the Northern Peru Birding Route took us to the Huembo Reserve to photograph the Marvelous Spatuletail Hummingbird (Colibrí Maravilloso). This remarkable bird was in danger of extinction until ECOAN and the American Bird Conservancy protected the area by buying this land and setting up the reserve. Now the most beautiful bird of Peru is protected.
Other hummingbirds photographed there were the Chestnut-breasted Coronet, Andean Emerald and the Green-tailed Trainbearer. We made another stop at La Llanteria where we found a White-tipped Sickelbill feeding on a Heliconia plant.
My name is Carole Turek and I am on a quest to photograph every single hummingbird species on the planet! There are over 350 types and I currently have photographed more than 150 of them.
Come with me virtually as I explore Central and South America to find the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world.
