Code P0101 Meaning
The mass air flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. Check engine light code P0101 is set when the measurement of air entering the engine by the mass air flow sensor is outside of the manufacturer’s specified range.

@(the flat rate mechanic) Hey there question I have a Nissan versa it's cold starting with high Rpm 2000 in the morning times and I have to wait 20minutes before its go down to 1000 rpm can the mass air flow sensor causing the problem????

Question I unplug the mass air flow sensor while engine running but it chip the engine check light will I need to use a obd2 scan to remove it or will it remove it self

I'm gonna try cleaner though I checked the connector pins and 2 of them seem to be colored brown instead of silver which I suspect is rust... I gonna compare it to a junk yard connector.. If the other connector pins are not brown as well I'll probably end up replacing the connector... As cleaning it without damaging seem hard as this is a 20-30 year old connect with toasted plastic...

I can confirm that the ACTUAL FILTER ITSELF can produce this error...had one aftermarket..boom this error on my Q50...bought an original one , no issues.

Yes a clogged or dirty air filter can also cause this issue

Same exact issue i have a 2017 Nissan Rogue doing the same thing. Check engine light comes on. No problems with gas mileage or engine idling rough. i replaced with a Hitachi equivalent and check engine light came on immediately and gave me another error code related to MAF sensor. When i clear the code, it stays off for about 400 miles and then comes back on upon starting the vehicle. i think it is something else, but dealer wants $600 to replace the MAF (which didn't work!), so i'm going to keep clearing the code until i'm tired of doing it or mileage suffers or engine runs erratic. i've read several blogs about problems with P0102 codes on Nissan vehicles.

No problems with p0102 with nissans, just p0101. People in forums don't know what they're talking about most of the time.

I had a 2017 Nissan Rogue with a MAF Problem. We replaced the sensor with an aftermarket one and it did not work, but once we replaced withy OEM. It ran like new.

I'd cleaned the maf with maf cleaner, no improvement. A mechanic said forget cleaner, it doesn't work so was about to buy a new maf. '99 Safari with 78K miles ran fine until it became very hard starting.. a P0102 code with maf, cat, egr, evap, o2 showing up. Check eng light always on. Dismantled maf again checking everything then carefully soaked both sides with maf cleaner, let it dry for an hour and reassembled.. cleaned the egr, reassembled making sure both clamps beyond the maf were tight so no air leaks. Ran it for a few minutes, stopped, restarted.. no more check eng light, runs great. Lesson learned.. I shoulda kept my 1977 F150 pickup, it had none of this crap! 😆

What if you’ve replaced it and you continue to get it and it causes your car to die in drivethoughs and sometimes tried to start back up by itself

2006 Nissan Frontier 40DQE V6 engine 250k miles before any issues at all then suddenly Random Misfire code. AND no power above 40mph. Engine stumbles, hesitates, wont go above 3800rmp when driving. Runs fabulous at all RPMs when in neutral. Replaced: spark plugs, PCV, coils, catalytic converters, front O2 sensors, fuel pump, VVT solenoids, vacuum hoses, intake gaskets and spark plugs AGAIN, cleaned MAF sensor and still have same issue. ...timing chain and MAF only thing left to replace.

have a 2013 altima that got this code. Bought the spray and cleaned the MAF sensor and it worked for about a month. Code has recently came back, this time w no real symptoms and it has been intermittent. Wondering if I need to replace the sensor this time or its something else. My filter fits right and is clean as well.

Did you clear the code with a obd2 scanner? Also it can take up to 20 drive cycles for a pcm to clear the code.

Just a p0101 is rarely the sensor on Nissan's. You can check fuel trims if you think it's dirty. They go higher with rpms if the sensor is dirty, but I've never seen this be the case.

@@elephant1851 vacuum leak, sticking throttle body, exhaust leak near an a/f sensor, ecm update needed, air box damaged or not sealed, trash air filter. It can be a lot of things, but if it's just the p0101, it's probably not the sensor. I've never even seen a dirty MAF on a Nissan. I don't know why all of the p0101 videos for them tell you to clean or replace the sensor. They come to us after someone does that and it doesn't fix it...

@@matth9359 Yea man, nearly everything I looked up says to clean the MAF sensor. I've already replaced it twice and still have the intermittent P0101. Checked for a vacuum leak both times. Good filter on. I have NOT checked for an exhaust leak.. sticking throttle body or the ecm. I'll look over the air box just to make sure there's not a crack somewhere. Strangely the code goes away when it rains heavily for a while, then comes back when dry. Thanks for those suggestions.

@@elephant1851 no prob. Definitely check out that guys video. You can very quickly determine if you have a vacuum leak or not with data. The old methods of visual and audible inspection are gone. Same with spraying brake cleaner and listening for changes. If you clean the throttle body, take it off to get it good, and you have to do all of the relearns. Closed positions and volume air.

I’d say do both if you got the money to buy the parts cuz who knows if you fix one first then wait maybe the other things that’s messed up messes up the car but look up the codes and do some research and see which one is a must first and if the other can wait just my opinion

I disonnected the battery terminal and cleaned the maf put it back and allow 2 hours before trying, the check engine light was off for about a minute then things turned to shit heard a click and saw the check engine light come on and car went dead. ordered a fuggin maf hope it fixes this verso so i can get rid of it

Continuous failure. Dealer replaced maf. It's been replaced 3 times. I checked wiring and connectors to maf and ECU and no issues. Dealer said throttle body. Changed that. Below 25 mph runs rough, erratic, lights on, etc. 180k 2013 jx35. I'm thinking ECM failure. Cc odes 101 and 113. Always on. Can't delete.

I have done this, and I'm still getting a check engine light. I use a scan tool, and remove code, and it doesnt come back for the duration of my drive. When I drive again, like up a hill or give it gas to accelerate, the check engine light comes on again. I dont notice anything wrong, doesnt idle bad, starts right up, doesnt die. Should I replace the MAF sensor? It seems like it's working fine.

I have a 2010 Infiniti G37 convertible, p0103 code came on. I also noticed that my engine speed while idling is at exactly 1k rpm (I'm certain that the normal idle speed for my car is at around 800 rpm). Can you give me any suggestions?

Replaced twice, second time with an expensive OEM part, checked for vacuum leaks, still intermittent p0101. Air filter clean, air hoses tight, fuse works. I am about ready to give up.

Your best bet is to learn about fuel trims. Schrodinger's box channel has one of the best videos on it. It will take you far.

I advised my daughter to not buy a nissan and she ignored me. 2 transaxles and 3 maf's later and its still a piece of crap. Over engineered. Nippon cars suck. Ill take a mercedes any day over these.
