Baby position in the womb has a big effect on how labor unfolds. So, as you're thinking about how to have a baby, you should be thinking about what you're doing right now, in pregnancy!
Back labor can be challenging and uncomfortable, especially when baby is occiput posterior commonly known as a sunny side up baby. With a posterior baby, back labor often becomes the hardest part about giving birth. Labour pain can increase because of how baby is trying to fit through the pelvis.
There are multiple techniques I bring into birth to support baby's position in mama's body, one of them, Spinning Babies (birth workers, check them out!). But one thing YOU can do as a pregnant mama as you are preparing for birth, is to be mindful of posture! It seems small, but a little over a long time (9 months) adds up!

I was so aware of my positions all throughout pregnancy, kept my feet flat on the floor, no crossing legs, and forward leaning. Had such a quick labor, no issues with positioning/pushing.

Edit to add: I also bought a wooden comb off Amazon to squeeze during contractions (I squeezed the comb in one hand and my husband's in the other). Your brain can only focus on one pain point at a time! And I incorporated lots of stretching too, at least 5-10 minutes a few times a week! I found your videos at some point while i was pregnant with my first baby and watched them religiously, especially during my last trimester. Thanks to your videos, i was able to successfully give birth to my baby boy on 6/5/23 unmedicated like i intended! He weighed 8lbs 8.8oz 💕 passing along what i found helpful/may help another momma in the future: 1) bouncing on birth ball daily, especially during third trimester 2) eating 6 dates daily (i didn't come across this tip until 37 weeks, but once i found out, i ate 6 everyday until i gave birth) 3) slow, steady breaths during contractions, especially when laboring at home so that you can continue to labor at home as long as possible 4) staying active! I work as a nurse in a busy ER so this was no problem- put in about 10k+ steps 3x/week...i worked all the way up until my due date (when my lil man arrived) 5) labored on my knees while facing the head of the bed, instead of on my back, so that my pelvis was tilted nice and forward! Thanks to all your tips, i had an incredibly smooth labor, especially for it being my first. Started contractions at 2:30am, arrived at the hospital by 3:30am at 10cm dilated!! & lil man came at 6:03am Thanks Bridget!!

Yesss! Love this! My chiropractor told me early in my pregnancy that the time for lounging was over and that I should spend the majority of my “sitting time” on my birth ball. This habit formed early in my pregnancy plus the fact that I have a very active job resulted in no back labor and only 45 min pushing in my first birth! We’ll see if it all holds up this second go-round, but it still feels good to know I’m making the right choices to at least set me up for success 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I had the same situation of baby being sunny side up till the end but I did the Miles Circuit at the start of 37 weeks, and it flipped the baby into the right position and triggered labour. I delivered 4 days later.

This is helpful to hear! My baby was sunny side up and did not rotate at all. She actually ended up getting stuck and her heart rate dropped and wasn’t coming back up resulting in a C-section. This is helpful to keep in mind for future pregnancy when I thought I was having such good posture.

I watched your videos on positioning throughout pregnancy for best outcomes in labor and thought I was very conscientious about this throughout my pregnancy. I was also very active. Unfortunately my daughter was found to be OP during labor. Planned homebirth but had to be induced in the hospital due to a suspected placental abruption. Back labor with Pitocin is NO JOKE! And because of her position I pushed for 4 hours. Not the experience I had hoped for for my first delivery, but nonetheless grateful for a healthy vaginal birth and healthy baby. Choosing to not live in fear of it happening again in future pregnancies and hoping that I can have a redemptive birth experience in the future. Thankful for your resources 💕

I'm so sorry! I had a fairly similar experience; except mine I was pressured to induce for hours due to premature rupture of membranes. Back labor with pitocin was the worst thing ever. I'm also really trying to let it go and praying and hoping for a redemptive birth.

I didn’t know this and my baby was sunny side up. 😩 but we didn’t know until I popped her out. I didn’t mention I was having back labor, since it was my first I didn’t realize that’s what was happening. I pushed for 3 hours, my baby’s heart rate stayed strong the whole time luckily. She’s a trooper. My midwife was like no wonder this took so long 😂

I was very aware of this during my first pregnancy and always tried to avoid the sofa. Or if I did sit on it, I always sat forward as you said. Otherwise I was on the birth ball or sitting on the floor (my job required me to sit on the floor with kiddos). Aaaand my baby was still in the wrong position, my labor was 42 hours, and I had back labor up until I started pushing, which is when she finally turned. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed out. This is my second pregnancy and I'm hoping this time is the charm! 😂

Spend a lot of time on your hands and knees. Gravity will help pull the heaviest part of the baby (the spine and back) to the floor hence facing to your back. Also try re-aligning baby in ur pelvis by putting knees on the edge of the couch and head and arms on the floor for about 30 seconds and then getting back up sitting straight up on ur knees for 3 breaths to allow baby to realign. This is called forward leaning inversion (google it). Spinning babies has so many excellent tips to get your baby in the right position, good luck!👍

I wasn't careful about my positions. I lay down on my back and sides. It's so difficult my ribs and back always hurt. The most comfortable is when I lay down on my back and when I sit with a pillow on my back so I'm a bit reclined. But I always sit cross legged, or leaning forward, slouching, and the sofa is too low for my butt to be high enough. I almost always don't sit with my feet flat on the floor. Is it too late now to correct this? I had an ultrasound last week and baby is head down but she's mostly on my right side since the begging that's where most of her movements are. Idk if she's facing my back or front though. I plan to give birth unmedicated and this is my first time so I really want a quick labor. 😐 I'm already 29+5 today. I don't have a birth ball.

Baby is iugr and they think i have preeclampsia that affects the blood flow from placenta so they had to induce me asap for safety. Baby was head down face down but went face up during labor 🥴 it hurt so much. I took the epidural and they vacuumed her to help me because I can't feel her she's so small 2kg. But she's healthy.
