i did hear from interviews of some north koreans that they tend to keep their loved ones (friends, family, etc..) very close and they spend a lot of time together. i truly hope that wasn’t his first time smiling :(

I remember meeting a North Korean young man at a Korean supermarket once. He told me that his biggest shock was seeing his South Korean boss being similar to him, and that people outside were kind and nothing like what he had been told in school. That man risked his life to make it to safety.

@@BuckBlaziken it's not that they don't want to trade with other countries. Most other countries are blocked from trading with them because if they do they face relentless repercussions from the United States, which is objectively by far a more valuable trade partner to have, and even risk falling into the same boat if they defy American imposed international law. Which I don't at all disagree with; North Korea doesn't even deserve the right to exist let alone trade with other countries.

Wow when I was younger I thought the reason why North Korea isn’t really told and shown and ect was because North Korea doesn’t really have anything popular like I thought it was just like any other country (being a good place to go) but then until me and my parents were watching a documentary about North Korea on TV and my parents told me a lot about North Korea and I also learned it from the documentary. So now I know how life in North Korea is and it’s so depressing.

1:59 Due to the fact that power outages are so common, it is actually considered higher status to live on the bottom floor in Pyongyang. That way you don't have to run all the way up and down the stairs since the elevators will not be running at times. Basically the complete opposite to the rest of the world where the top floors are usually the most sought after. If you live on the top floor of a 10+ story building in North Korea, you're getting a pretty big exercise daily.

it's self-serving. the government officials want power for themselves and not for the people, so to keep the people from being empowered, they empower themselves by controlling the people. so instead of serving the people like they should, the government try to control the people and keep them under strict ruling.

Its sad that they cant even leave and just go on with life because governments like these will kill as many people as possible so nobody will leave. The Tiananmen Massacre in China is a good example that this is a understatement... its a big prison with a life sentence for civilians with the possibility to die way faster than average: Poverty / Starvation , Labor camps etc.
