Ostapenko, when she's on, can beat anyone. That's because she goes for the lines - all or nothing, that's her "tactics". So it isn't just Iga. Last time was so close, it could go either way. But from last time Iga improved her serve, especially placement and variety.

That 3rd set was very unexpected I thought it will be more like in 2nd set, instead Swiatek wasn't event close to break Ostapenko, lost easily 5 gems in row. I think she wasn't able to handle pressure before 3rd set because she knew that she must win or she will: 1. Lose WTA number one title 2. Won't defend US Open title 3. End up with 4:0 H2H record against Ostapenko. This might be too much for even strong mentally player. Hope Ostapenko will win US Open and Swiatek should work on her serve if she wants to neutralize to some degree big hitters like Ostapenko, Rybakina.

This was all before Iga started on her 2022 big year. They met again just today, USO 2023 and Jelena won again: 4/4 for her against Iga. Jelena plays well against Iga. But now Jelena has to play against a different opponent: the US nasty crowd who will be on demonic fire for Coco.

Not just big hitters who are aggressive are Iga's weakness, but also those tennis players who are significantly more experienced are Iga's weakness. Iga Swiatek have trouble defeating more experienced opponents. Iga Swiatek lost to Sabalenka in Madrid Final not just because Sabalenka is big hitter, but also because she is significantly more experienced than Iga Swiatek.

@@deusexmachina9776 Because of her own weakness which is those tennis players who can constantly overpower her. Plus Aryna Sabalenka is one dimensional ball basher. Iga Swiatek is only 21 years old and quite inexperienced atm. Ekaterina Alexandrova is difficult opponent for Iga Swiatek, because she is far more experienced than Iga Swiatek is. One of the reasons why Ostapenko have 3-0 win ratio against Iga Swiatek is, because she is significantly more experienced than Iga Swiatek is.

LOL! Great video. Very revealing! Of course, on the right day, Osty can beat anyone. Her shotmaking is uncanny when she is "on," but in the course of any tourney, she seems to run into players whose quickness and athleticism can stymie her, especially if her slamming is not as accurate as it can be. You would think Iga would be one of those players -- all-court game, solid serve, and quick to every ball. But I notice that Osty avoids getting into long rallies with Iga, and that is the right strategy: NO ONE wants to get into long rallies with Iga! Keeping rallies short and slamming her into submission is the way to beat Iga -- if you can. Few can, but Osty has the game to do it, and she is 4-0 career vs. Iga. Fascinating.

Monica was WAY more than a ball basher, she essentially revolutionized the way tennis was played and would have easily won double digit slams had she not been stabbed. NO ONE before her was aggressively returning off both sides like she did, and she was maybe the most mentally strong player of all time (many greats have said this).

This is a battle of personalities, everytime (80%) Iga plays against girls like this she afraid a pressure from opponent and can stops fighting. Thats all u need to know about Iga. On clay I definitely see 6-2 6-0 Iga victories etc. I’m not saying she would never beat Ostapenko on hard/grass I just think Penko might have the advantage as the match is on her racket and she’s 3-0 up against Iga including a win this year.

@@samisankey3104 Sure, a ballbasher can take her out (Aryna did that in YEC) but Iga is always adapting. On slower surfaces her ferocious FH (ok not as good as Nadal's) will decide matches by itself. I do not believe aggressive players will dominate her. Occasionally, yes. Never on constant basis.

@@TriggeredMonkey it largely depends on the opponents level on the day, Iga has been dominated in matches a few times this year, so it’s possible. Penko is 3-0 for a reason. I see Iga as a similar player to Nadal, not as mentally tough though.
