I have had one outside in all weathers and not under cover, I believe it must now be for 5+ years. When I take it home to give it a yearly clean with cotton cue tips and a dab of oil on the rollers it still works like new, with some scratches, of course.

I’m guessing that since they say NOTHING about an angle grinder that this lock resists a grinder for about 5 seconds. Abus: try harder, please.

Heavy powertools and angle grinders can cut through almost anything through. No lock or chain is going to prevent that. This is for thiefs of opportunity that sees a bike by chance and tries to steal it. Or a theif that might carry a boltcutter or something and walks around looking for an easy target.

@@qewfsdsd65445 It's thinner than, say, the Kryptonite New York U-lock, but metallurgically it's just as good if not better. Plus it's fashioned square at 13mm like the Kryptonite chains, making it extremely difficult to cut through with snips. Angle grinders are obviously the best bet for any truly determined thief. I'd opt for a GPS unit as well, personally.

let me tell you the joy of using this lock. it is 99.9% rust proof even out in all weathers, you may see a tiny bit of rust deep inside the shackle hole, but it does not get on your clothes and hands like another famous d-lock, wont name names, in yellow/black, which does rust a hell of allot when kept outside. The abus mounts onto a texkf twin bracket that when set right with an allen key will 'not' rattle on your frame when riding!! the abus is lighter yet just as strong as its main competitor in black/yellow. Also the ABUS is a bit longer and as mentioned lighter than its competitor, so will lock up to bigger posts!! it is a square shackle so harder to cut and and wont spin around when cut on one side. An excellent lock. Bolt cutter proof, 'But' it can be cut with a grinder, just like its competitor, I think in under a couple of minutes!! so keep your ears open when locking up and always lock up near a busy area so people are around if possible.

540 and a GPS unit. Tough as fuck to get through one, but not tough enough to escape the other (unless the battery runs out).

I have this lock. I think that this lock is just okay. A angle grinder could easily defeat this lock. Same goes for the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit.

How easily can it be picked? 7 tons of pulling resistance. Impressive, but nobody is going to try to pull a U lock apart.

Well the truth is if a professional thief wants to steal your bike - your bike is gone in under a minute no matter the locks, The locks aim is actually to deter - if the thief can defeat your securities in let's say 45 seconds and the bike of similar value parked next to yours in 15 seconds - they will probably spare yours. That said - I would recommend to have 2 bikes - a cheap one for daily commuting - if it is stole - of course you''d be pissed off but at least the monetary loss would not be that big and the quality one - that one never to be left unattended for more that minutes.

I have a grante extrme 59 U as well, but according to the video, it is not as tough as this lock costing a third of the price, we were ripped off by abus.

OK well New York’s a little bit far away. I’ll tell you what, you pick a neighborhood in Philadelphia and I’ll do exactly that. However, I do work a lot so It will take a few weeks to put it together. Let me know what neighborhood you choose.
