I ordered the 85cm ABUS folding lock, but Amazon sent me the 110cm size instead. I re-ordered what I wanted, so now I had two. I thought I'd do a compare and contrast then post the results. ABUS Bordo - amzn.to/3w5P1v9

Exactly the video I needed as I tried to decide between the two lengths of this lock. Thank you for this contribution to the KZfaq commonwealth.

Thanks for this. As a taller guy - 6’2”, I was tending to go for the larger of the two. You’ve shown me that the 85cm Is perfectly fit for my use case, and that I can use the screw holes on my XL Canyon gravel bike. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia

I've got the larger version and it fits perfectly where the bottle holder would be using the plastic straps. Very secure and out of the way.

Thank you soooo much.I got that big badboy home and was shocked that there were no drilled holes to mount it which seems counterintuitive - but I have a real fat frame bike so I will have to figure this out - the short one won't really work for me. But no where else did my questions and concerns ger addressed - so THANNKS!!

The downside for me is losing a bottle cage. I'd probably just stick it in a frame bag. I'm actually looking at the shorter one because I don't want much play in it when it's locked up. Makes it easier to maneuver for anyone trying to cut it. Thanks for the review. Very helpful
@BrianRouse2 жыл бұрын
Totally valid concern. On longer rides I wear a camelback, so losing a bottle cage wasn’t an issue for my person situation.

In your place I'd also keep the smaller one. There is another option with an additional cable (called Cobra) that you can add to the lock in different sizes. Transporting this additional cable is another problem though. 🙃

i hated the straps too... until i mounted it and they are perfect, it doest move AT ALL! i have mine on the rear of the frame since i have a electric bike co model R... go w the bigger one on the right esp if you have an ebike... i bought both and the smaller one didnt fit around my bike, rear wheel and bike rack... like the one on the right allows. if you can do all of that w the smaller one bc your bike is smaller, of course thats better bc its lighter, thanks for the video!

Thanks for the vid. I was surprised (disappointed) when I got the 110cm and discovered there's no holes for mounting on the bottle holder. I'm probably going to return and go for a wearable lock. Also I need a larger bag like the one you have attached to you handlebars. Can you please give me the name and or link? Thx
@BrianRouse2 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing when the 110cm showed up. Turns out I don't mount the smaller one on my bike either; I have a bike rack and bag that I put it in if I need it. As for the top tube bag (I think that's what you're referring to) is this: amzn.to/3Hmvwm4

Have you had any problems with the lock popping out of its holder when hitting bumps? Mine keeps popping out and I'm wondering if I need to adjust those two screws or just get a new case. I have the 85cm for reference.
@BrianRouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Isla...when I had it attached i didn't experience the lock popping out. That said, a few months after I made this video I started using a bike bag on a rack for longer rides, and I just started putting the lock in that to free up the bottle cage spot.
@Itsislagrace Жыл бұрын
@@BrianRouse right now I have it on a horizontal frame bar and it is popping out a lot. I'm going to try putting it on a diagonal upright bar and maybe it will be a little better.
@stickfood81172 жыл бұрын
You could just drill the holes in the bigger holder but for the 85cm version there is a different holder more like a puch, its way nicer
@BrianRouse2 жыл бұрын
I thought about that, but decided against it since the lock was sooo heavy. I was afraid I’d ruin the integrity of the mount.
@chadanian692 жыл бұрын
Do you have to mount it to your bike or can you just keep it in a bag until use
@BrianRouse2 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely carry it. It’s heavy, so make sure you have a sturdy bag.
@dperreno2 ай бұрын
Dude! Just remove one of your bottle cages and strap the holder to the frame where the bottle cage used to be! That's what you were planning on doing anyway! I'm so confused... BTW, I think that ABUS did not provide the holesin the 110 holder for using your bottle cage mounts due to the weight of the lock. I'm sure that they are worried that the heavier lock could pull bottle cage rivnuts right out of the frame.

I think at the time I wanted to take it on long rides, so I didn’t wind up using the cage space :-)

Could the holder be mounted using the bottle cage screws? Thank you
@BrianRouse2 жыл бұрын
Technically no, because there aren't holes for it. I considered drilling my own at one point, but I decided that if the company wanted it to be able to be mounted using bottle-cage screws they would've added the holes. I guess they decided against it since it's so heavy.
@inxlee2 жыл бұрын
@@BrianRouse guess I got to get the smaller one

ABUS locks are the heaviest, bulkiest, ugliest locks on the market - AND not even that secure. You can get a 'grinder' proof lock that's just as good, weighs and costs about half... and that will be just as easily picked.
@BrianRouse28 күн бұрын
I can't argue with you on this one. Over the years I've used my lock only when I absolutely need it. Attaching it and bringing it everywhere proved to be less than practical. Locks are really just a deterrent for average crooks...the motivated ones will get around it for sure.

don't understant why to pay this much for all this expensive stuff if ANY battery powered grinder can cut them ALL, abus granit, krytonite NY etc. ppl blow extra 50-80 euros on a b.s. 15 mark protection but it's a plain marketing. same grinder is required for a 10€ simple U lock. get that one, save 80€ and extra 1kg of *useless* weight !

Well there is no lock that cannot be cut by that grinder. However even an insurance asks for a "good" lock. You should inform yourself what this lock has to cost and you should be safe if you always use the lock! 🤔
