It’s become fashionable to blame snowbirds for everything - but particularly for creating traffic congestion. Snowbirds don’t drive during the prime commuting hours and they don’t prowl around all hours of the night. One thing they do for sure and that’s bring money to AZ. Many of them own a home and maintain their properties very well. They hire pest control companies, gardeners and in some cases they have housekeepers. They eat out a lot which is good for the restaurants. Many are golfers and golf regularly. Just ask the Mayor and business owners about the benefit that snowbirds bring to Maricopa! And if you really want to know about snowbirds, ask the Chief of Police. He’ll tell you how few negative dealings they have with snowbirds.

I have visited Arizona many times over the last 20 years(from the East Coast) and enjoyed it each time,...and it was very high on my retirement ''maybe list''. Each region had its own unique characteristics. Unfortunately,....over that time it has gone from affordable,...to maybe affordable,..to completely out my price range,....and that was BEFORE it became California east.

There isn't a place on earth that is perfect. We moved here two years ago from Ohio. We had been here before for vacation several times so we knew what we were getting into. I was born and lived in Michigan for 26 years and then another 30 years in Ohio. I'm not going to tell you that there aren't things I miss. Several of the things you mentioned in this video are among them. The vegetation and the trees, the heavily forested Metroparks Etc. Coming from Toledo a medium-sized City I could get from one end of the city to the other in 15 minutes on the freeway. I miss Tony Packo's, Frankenmuth Michigan.... oh, the Great Lakes, Mackinac Island, etc. Yes it gets horribly hot here in Arizona for about 4 months a year but that did not deter us from moving here because we were pretty much fed up with Ohio's cold dreary rainy Icy snowy humid never ending cycle of dreary corpse Grey skies....7 months a year. We have had more sunshine in the past two years than in the past 10 years in Ohio. That being said Sunshine can become overbearing after a while. It's human nature to want the things you can't have until you get them. Still I'll take Sunshine over the gray weather most days. Everything you mentioned in this video is true. Things are overrated especially if you move here thinking that everything is going to be better. Overall we are very satisfied the weather is much better overall. It is a beautiful state and there are many things to do if you look for them. Pretty sure we would never move back east as we love the open feel of Arizona and other Western States. For now just going back to visit every few years will suffice. If you're thinking of moving from the Midwest out here though please be aware that just like any place you've lived for a while, after a while it'll just get to be the "same old same old." C'est la vie

This is an excellent video Jeff. I agree 100%. Most of the driving issues stem from too many people coming here, developers building homes, and cities not building the underlying infrastructure needed to support the additional drivers too. Just look at Maricopa, they keep building thousands of homes, and there are no freeways out, just the 347, 2 lanes each way with lights on it... haha!

@LivinginArizonaNow I've been in southern Arizona since 1964 and I, like you, prefer to look on the brighter side of things. That said, your criticisms were spot on. I would add that regarding driving, the intense heat wrecks the roads due to cracking asphalt quickly leading to major potholes. Drivers weave all over the road on some Tucson streets dodging those potholes. The heat also makes people cranky as can be.

Hey Jeff! We did it! We are officially moving to Surprise! My wife will be teaching at the elementary school there. We are so excited and ECSTATIC to be leaving CA! Hey we didn’t move to Havasu as expected because the situation is getting too kooky out there. EVERYONE within arms reach (Southern California) bought homes and quickly moved up there. Now the landlords are all getting greeedy & rent is going through the roof & there are already an extremely limited amount of jobs out there as well. You may wanna check on the situation in Havasu cuz a lot of longtime residents got she’ll shocked when everyone fled there , people are pissed that rent has skyrocketed & people are finding out that working part time at Bashas is going to make things difficult out there. Plus there’s not much work in Parker and no other major cities close by. Mohave County could either thrive or collapse cuz of all this and it seems to be at a tipping point where we don’t know which way it will end up falling.

@@talex5459 dude I am going to PRESERVE what is AZ. I have seen Southern California turn into what it has become because of liberalism. I have seen how this happens and I come with first hand knowledge of signs and markers of how they change a community from conservative to liberal. I plan to share this info at city council meetings. We are not concerned about Arizona going to hell we are concerned about the entire country going to hell. Arizona is just where we are choosing to help fight for our freedom because it is completely gone in LA & here’s the thing people don’t even realize it! I even know the signs to look for when the residents KNOW they’re freedoms are gone but they are in denial mode! Since the lockdowns from “you know what” I watched closely and I understand how they use it to change a city. It is a very systematic way they are taking peoples freedoms so they don’t even know it. LA is too stupid to understand this (and that’s the literal truth) I am a bit worried about Surpise to be honest cuz I see some of the signs. Our freedom strictly depends on the community. That is it plain and simple. And an uneducated community it succesptible to fall for this shit. U know how Biden says “build back better?” That is actually how they implement and change your community! I have first hand observational knowledge and trust me the people in LA are DONE! They are too stupid to realize that they have leveraged the gov now to do whatever they want to them. Uneducated, liberal, narcissistic and STUPID is what has happened to Southern California

Jeff, you are absolutely right about the negatives. The jobs don't pay a living wage. Rent is ridiculously high. New build out in east Mesa Cadence requires bidding when trying to purchase a lot. Californians rolling in with a lot of money to put down, are winning the bids. It's no more a first come first serve qualified buyer gets the lot of choice. Trying to survive in Arizona is putting a strain on my marriage. Hubby is exhausted commuting to Casa Grande for Lucid and working at a pizza place. I can't find a good job after losing my job to a business closure. It's really scary for us. I'm glad you are warning people, Jeff. Thank you!!

I’ve lived here two years in Scottsdale coming from NY. I love it here. Yes the summer is brutal but 9 months are gorgeous. If you love the sun Arizona has more sun then Florida. The only bad thing is my allergies are crazy here. And your sinuses dry out which lead to infections. Yes it’s boring but for people over 55 it’s awesome. If you love the outdoors you can be outside here 9 months.

Phoenix - 110 degrees is too hot? Drive north for 2 hours or wait 12 hours and it's 80s again. Midwest - 20 degrees is too cold? Drive south for 2 days or wait 6 months and it's 80s again.

Drive north yes, wait 12 hours no. Been here 30 years, once the heat hits, there are no 80's for months. Very common for it to still be 100 degrees at 10 pm.

@@bluesmanish Yes but it's well under 100 degrees at sunrise so you get a nice break from the heat. The average low/high for Phoenix are: Jun 78/104, Jul 84/106, Aug 83/104, Sep 77/100.

@@scottscott5827 What about the summer of 2020?? In a few years, we will hit a new record: 100 degree overnight low. It's coming. But I do love AZ- just want to let people know what they're in for. It's a desert!

I moved to Phoenix in late 2017 from Philadelphia and I love it here. I always have something to do and love the 300+ days of sunshine. But by no means don't go out of your way to move out here, because it's too nice and I don't want to ruin it with more people! FYI Grocery shopping is expensive and vehicle registrations is WAY expensive, especially if you like new cars!

Are you talking about the boring weather in the heat well let's talk about hurricanes tornadoes blizzards etc I guess those are exciting you know to have a tornado through your house every once in awhile hurricane that runs through or how about staying in your house because it's 40 below zero most of the winter I can some parts of this country tend to forget that that some parts of the country they stay in most of the winter time we're this opposite here we stay in in the summertime of course I'm a native I could be a little prejudiced I love my state and the landscape you talked about the desert we have one of the more plant life animal life been any desert in the world if you go to any other desert there's hardly anything hardly any plant life or anything and like you said it's what you make of it I find plenty of beautiful scenery here not only the rim country Grand canyon Flagstaff White mountains I can go on and on I find beauty in all of our landscape I mean just look at all the issues of Arizona highways but like I say I might be prejudiced and I'm going on and on here because I was born and raised here you know it's what you make of it like when I was a kid I wasn't bored me and my cousins had her bicycles and then our motorcycles right around in the desert but nothing just rambling on if you don't like it here move back to where you came from

Well it's better in Kentucky or Missouri you don't have tornadoes it might get hot but we can deal with that but no tornadoes when it gets hot in in Kentucky it's hot and muggy. Arizona a beautiful state so I'm here I don't know about the weather I hope I can handle it not that I'm sure I can I keep on thinking I can handle it here in Arizona I ain't going to go back there in Kentucky because tornadoes it's tornado season now and I'm staying away from that I love it here in Arizona it's a beautiful state.. I can always go back and visit

We've lived and worked in Az for 17 years. Had a tough commute but made it to retirement. We love hiking, wildlife, beauty and peace. Then neighbor moved in, wants their "arms training" and be damned anyone else. Now our hard work seems to have been for this tragic end. We live in a POA in Williams and we have CCR's but not enforceable due to conflicting county regs and CCR's. Now we're old, and vunerable. It's a heartbreaker. We've been harassed in Evey way possible to include airplanes/ helicopters flying over too close and almost ripping out roof off. Sheriff's Dept. can only do so much... Bad ending.😢

Ever since last year there's been less cops on the freeways so I've noticed everyone getting even faster than before I guess I have just lived here so long (all my life basically) that I have never noticed not having amusement parks or whatever; Those would get kinda hot in summer anyways. I never really get bored with the desert aesthetic but then again, pretty much lifelong resident. Idk who thinks that Phoenix was cheap but maybe they meant like ""Big city"" cheap, better than LA, NY or Chicago I guess. Maybe it's my Native genes but I really don't mind the summer temps, 105 outside is pretty perfect to me

Over cast in PA is the norm as well as snow. I’m okay with 300 days of sunshine. Your dislikes has more to do with young people having to entertain themselves and offspring. I’m going to AZ for retirement. Dry heat, sunshine and hot for seniors are bonuses. 11 years and I’m coming.
