I am a Portuguese American from California. I am a high school principal and will be taking students to Lisbon in November for a week of study. Your videos are so helpful because the Portuguese I learned as a boy was from Madeira (where my parents are from) your videos are helping me w the mainland accent and slang words. I'm a US citizen living in the Los Angeles area,and have been looking for a genuine Portuguese spot,and have come up empty.. Hopefully next year I'll be able to visit the Azores and eat the amazing sounding dishes

Hi Aaron! Welcome to my channel! I live in LA too and can totally relate. There used to be a nice restaurant in Northridge but it closed a few years ago. Natas in Sherman Oaks is good for pastries, but I don't like the restaurant, unfortunately. I keep joking with my sister that we should open a restaurant!

That Arroz de Marisco looks very similar to a dish we have in the Dominican Republic called asopao de camarones.

Tenho que admitir que, como diz meu tio Riccardo, seja mais largo do que mais alto. Todos na família me provocam que eu sou o doce gorducho deles. Eu diria que o meu estado de tristeza é o resultado da preocupação da minha tia Dulce, a melhor cozinheira de todas as cozinheiras do Alentejo. (Isso não é só a minha opinião). Sim, com toda a certeza posso afirmar esse facto. Os seus ensopados, carne porco à alentejana, estufado de lebre, borrego no forno, migas de batata ou migas de espargos com carne do alguidar, ou arroz de pato poderiam levar à tentação até alguns bons cristãos provando-os no meio do jejum da Quaresma. Triste é o meu destino.

Olá Kamenko! Não sabia que tinha uma "costela alentejana"? Eu também tenho! O meu avô paterno era de Évora e o meu apelido "Carapinha" é 100% alentejano. Não sabia que conhecia tão bem a gastronomia portuguesa. Bom proveito!

@@learneuropeanportuguese UM DIA ALENTEJANO Tenho um bom amigo alentejano, que se orgulha muito da sua origem dessa dourada parte da terra portuguesa. Uma vez ele me levou para a velha senhora Évora e o seu Alentejo, banhado pelo quente sol do Outuno alentejano. Fiquei encantado. Os meus olhos tiveram a honra de ver os mais bonitos pontos de Évora: as muralhas antigas, as paredes brancas brilhantes com as bordas amarelas da cidade antiga, o Templo da Diana, a Sé e a Capela dos ossos, e finalmente a velha e pitoresca Praça do Giraldo, cuja beleza era dedicada ao Geraldo Geraldes, “ Sem Pavor”, o grande cavaleiro de Dom Afonso Henriques, onde provei migas à alentejana e um bom vinho tinto. Durante a nossa viagem o meu alentejano narrava-me sobre os costumes e a tradição do Alentejo e mostrava-me as paisagens ensolaradas com os sobreiros e pinheiros bravos e mansos, as manchas verdes escuro no brilhante céu do Alentejo. Quereria voltar-me ali para tomar mais alguns copos daquele vinho maravilhoso e beber mais do sol alentejano neles. /P.S. Sou sérvio da Bosnia & Herzegovina/

There are a lot of dishes with meat, but remember that Portugal is country with the third highest consumption of fish in the world, so you have a lot of variety. Vegetarian options are also increasing.
