***** probably like 15:1 cr on +100 octane...still 800cc and 2 cylinders less than the VQ35. Pretty sure this V6 has more than 12:1 cr as well.

***** There are bored VQ35's running 12:1 cr and making +300 whp, this engine must be close to 13:1. Honda engines are the best, those little beasts! So strong, that the fastest FWD Civic makes 1800 hp from a 2.0 liter :) Nice numbers for only 9 psi, btw!

A clean shop means prissy ass men. Go to a real automotive repair shop, or a car fanatics personal garage, it's always dirty. My father was a mechanic and he spent over 100k on tools in his lifetime, never would you open his toolbox and it be "Clean." Organized? Yes. Clean? No.

@eamh2002
@eamh2002 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah theres some mad engineering done to the car to bring RPM so high and still the engine idles nicely and is a daily driver. In theory though +350hp should be possible from a 2litre straight 4 considering 1litre sport bikes have 180-190hp without ram air effect. Actually If you joined 2 aprilia RSV engines youd get a 2litre v4 with 360hp+..

Those front fenders look amazing. I'm actually very surprised that they don't have any head work done...from what I understand, that's arguably the biggest single source of power in a build. If they're running higher compression, full exhaust, big cams, big ITB's, I would think the stock heads are a huge bottle neck.
@MrRodillo123

Lmao yeah dude it cant be the most powerful vq in the world until the heads are done
@ALSALAZAR1985
@ALSALAZAR1985 8 жыл бұрын
Yup throwing HUGE TB's on stock heads with stock valve sizes is a waste you just threw away all the response and low end.. like throwing a huge tunnel ram intake on an chevy with stock iron heads... just not optimized. only solution is other heads or forced induction!
@misegades
@misegades 8 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't think we can say he threw money away...the guy seems to have a pretty good handle on what he's doing, and I'm definitely not going to be one to say what he might be doing wrong. My guess is that headwork is definitely in the cards...what I do know is that good head work can be very expensive.
@misegades
@misegades 8 жыл бұрын
All that being said, if and when he does get head work done, I can see this thing breaking 450-500 crank hp no problem
@ALSALAZAR1985
@ALSALAZAR1985 8 жыл бұрын
misegades still limited by the factory design of the heads. they wont be able to cnc too much and is anybody doing custom cnc work for these engines?. best solution is aftermarket heads, but idk who makes them for vq. maybe JUN in Japan??? idk... id just do the true and tested V8. looks is one thing, results is another.

Unitarity they still have plenty of room to improve with high compression Pistons they run race gas which means they can run crazy big cams but not without porting up the heads and getting valves that can handle the lift, N/A v8s make 500 pretty easily with just a mild cam on pump gas lol but nascars and trophy trucks make 800-950hp N/A carbureted and there's boosted v8s that get into the 4000hp mark but that's obviously an engineered race motor, the vq making 420hp is pretty good but like he says it's still a basic set up 450 should be easy after the heads are worked other wise that's a lot of money and time for 140hp gain
@zackdoubleZ
@zackdoubleZ 7 жыл бұрын
Unitarity I agree race gas is for the track, gotta pay to play if you know how long all your engine parts last and rebuild accordingly reliability usually isn't an issue but obviously the price will be driven up, winning isn't cheap lol but the 900hp push rod v8s can rev to 9k but aim to stay in 8k range and there are drag race engines that rev much higher N/A not cheap or for the street

this is a damn nice car, the engine seems so smooth aswell and makes an awesome sound. it's amazing how many stock or borrow from 370z components you still have and making 420whp on N/A is pretty nice. thats probably close to 500 bhp. many people don't know how to build Zs and many don't reaech these numbers with turbos, but you did it N/A good job! you should maybe consider getting built heads tho in my opinion it would increase the power that much more maybe even close to 450whp which would be crazy for a 3.5/3.7 l v6.

MidShipCivic Actually I didnt lol Ive seen people post and say that type of stuff more than a few times. Like "Turbos are so much harder to tune and keep reliable, thats why I stay NA" and some other bs about "turbo cars are never as reliable as NA cars"... I think a guy posted that over in one of the Z forums which is why I thought it was so funny. Some guys actually think NA cars are easy or require 0 tuning. Even if you go HP crazy.

The Project Channel Those are comments from enthusiast... they don't even make sense take it as a grain of salt, an NA motor will become far less streetable the more you try to get power out of it though. Unlike a high horsepower modern forced induction engine.

Need more cams, need 275lbft @ 8600rpm to get 450hp. Does it really need 450 though? 315lbft should be possible with 3.7l so get that at 7500rpm and you got the 450.

I'm not an expert, but If the ports don't line up right then that's gonna be a huge power killer, lack of intake velocity is usually a low-end toque killer, not a power killer as the idea is just to get as much air in and out as you can on the top end. Also they should definitely give the heads at least a little port-match and smoothing if not crazy reshaping if you're gonna be going this far into it anyway.

I dont know anything about VQs but I doubt a change from 53.5mm to 57mm ITBs could rob 40whp. If anything the top end should peak higher with a loss in the midrange. at 420whp the motor is making 70whp/cyl. In the Honda K-series world, most motors making 70whp/cyl with ITBS run 57-60mm Kinsler

I believe Endless built an actual VQ to over 400HP years ago...I'll see if I can find the article.

this is an HR? pretty nice with no forced induction! My DE pushes 450 410 RWHP with the vortech V3, SCI tuner kit. Pretty cool wrap as well

Yes, that's an HR engine.

Couldn't you run smaller diameter horns aka smaller venturi to increase velocity? that's what lots of guys do with Weber carbs on various setups.

port & Polish the heads and get oversized valves and bigger cams that'd help make more power

Bigger valves do not always = better. Engines, especially of the NA variety, require lots of testing to squeeze the absolute most power from them. I am curious about how much the length of the velocity stacks plays a role in this engines performance. You are correct in that the head needs to be worked to fit the new throttle bodies though.

Ik this but they said they need more airflow and bigger valves will give them exactly that and I beleive that the length would effect the actual curve more then overall torque and hp

+ZEEPOxWiZARD iix From what they are saying, it's not the amount of air but the velocity. If the engine was gasping for air, then the air boxes would add to this problem and cause a greater loss in power. At least that's what my mind thinks the logical conclusion is. Would be great to see a comparison on this engine with larger vs smaller valves and inlets. Heads on NA engines are fickle and 2 engines built by the same shop using the same parts can like different head work. If you make a larger intake tract with the engine demanding the same amount of air, you will necessarily lower the air's velocity through the tract. This can cause the engine to produce less power due to bad air/fuel mixing along with other factors.

Maybe it will pick up some top end on the track if you can get some more air forced up those hoses, to help compensate for the velocity issues?

It's not an air entering problem, its exhaust gases exiting that seems to be the issue.

It's 420 to the motor not to the wheels. If you look at the vid he mad 364 to the wheels which is really good for a VQ.
