That woman crying is out of pure guilt at not having supported her daughter who reported his behavour straight away to a responsible adult. I bet there are a good number of the girls who are having a difficulty accepting that some parents ignored them asking for help.

OHTHECHITCHAT - Yes. One girl's father killed himself because she told him and he didn't believe her and he later found out it was true. They said he also had a terminal illness and that could be why he killed himself but I bet it was out of guilt of knowing his daughter was being abused and he didn't believe her.

It's not in our place to guilt them anymore then they already feel. Stop. If a parent is already feeling the shame and guilt of not believing they don't need strangers to come and guilt them more. Everyone deals with things differently and we should all respect the grieving process no matter how late or early someone comes to a conclusion.

My mother ignored my pleas for help. My brother in law exposed himself to me over and over. What he did to me does not compare to what these girls went through. Not even a tiny bit. But what hurt the most is that my own mother wouldn't protect me. I pray that each and every one of these girls gets blessed with peace in their hearts for their own sake.

Parson Yo why not? She said she wasn't believed at first because her sister had been going to him for years. So basically instantly believing this would mean instantly accepting that there is good chance the sister was molested for years without telling the parents anything. So yeah I am sure she believed her after a bit but I can definitely see how it would take a bit of time in this situation.

sammysamz21 forgiveness is hard. I didn't fully forgive my mother when I told her about sexual abuse and she didn't protect me. Believe me there was a lot of screaming. I made her cry a lot. I was very angry. Then sometimes you reach a point of thinking your parent is human and very flawed like everyone else. My mother was distracted by her own mother's deteriorating health and death and coping through that that I was neglected. It sadly happens. There isn't enough supervision. Denial plays a big part. My mother later told her friends there were signs I was being sexually abused but she kept making excuses. My mother wasn't evil. The abuser who abused me and other (now) grown women is evil. I wish more parents believed their children. I wish a lot of these issues to be avoided if the parent simply said if anyone, ANYONE touches you, says something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe you tell me. I would hope it would save people a lot of trauma.

From what i understand of the doctor he most of the time covers up these assaults as a medical procedure. He is very good at presenting medical jargon to people and even makes videos of his "medical procedures". So of course as a parent you might think it to be a complete misunderstanding of a medical procedure that was performed on your child. Unless the parents do deep research on the subject it is unlikely they will think of him as anything but a medical professional. Coupled with the fact that he was recommended highly by other sports doctors and trainers and frequently befriended the children's parents.

This mom is obviously devastated about what happened. Whether you call it guilt, shame, sadness, etc. she is experiencing deep pain. Given how many women have come forward, and how many of those women must have told their parents, it shows how much of a mastermind Nassar was at covering his tracks. It speaks to how many parents must be feeling this type of pain. The parents are just as much victims of his abuse, and now is not the time for others to place blame on them. No need to add even more misery to their suffering.

She definitely failed her daughter in that moment. But just like many of the other victims parents when they talked to him, coauthors, other Emily who worked closely with him, and they all said it could be true and manipulated the situation, that fucks with your head. The mother absolutely should of been on her daughters side and believed her over everyone else, regardless. Yes, she does feel shame and guilt, and she will the rest of her life, for not protecting her child. She knows that. But I agree with everyone tearing her down and saying extremely horrible things. I would always believe my child first, but I can’t put myself in some of those parents shoes and mindset because idk what was said to them and what they did after the fact when they were told. This whole situation is disgusting, and ugly. And I hope the prison he’s in, the other inmates rip him to shreds. And a SURVIVOR myself, I can’t understand all of their pain.

Chelsea Gallo my mother believed me but also took me back to his house repeatedly after I told her and the sexual abuse occurred in the family. Parents are human. They create excuses because it's painful and their excuses are a coping mechanism. I imagine it's very overwhelming for a parent. What I see is a mother who feels horrible and a daughter hugging her mother, still connecting. I hope I don't seem like I'm lecturing. I'm trying to give a perspective. Guilt is very painful. I know my mother felt emotional pain. She went to therapy afterwords. I was very angry at her for years for not protecting me. Our relationship didn't have trust anymore. Many many years later when we all were adults we told his family what he had done because they wondered why our relationship with our dad was so strained. They refused to believe us. Refused to understand. Since that day, we have never spoken to them again because THEY cut off ties. Some people just don't want to see the horrible side of someone they love.

Dude there's a reason that so many directors end up being pedophiles. There's a reason that so many child actors end up so messed up. The film making world is a haven for abusers, and a lot of them put messages in their movies that portray the accused as completely and totally innocent, children as liars, and the parents who believe them as victimizers of the innocent. I hate to say it, but my Mom wouldn't have believed me if I had revealed such a thing to her. She's the kind to turn on the blinders real quick when it comes to anything sexual.

snowblo1 sadly that's realistic. I've found in America the culture is hyper sexualized but will not go through the effort of trying to prepare anyone to protect themselves. 1 out of 5 women are raped or sexually abused. How about karate classes for kids? How about teaching them if you feel unsafe, someone touches you and you feel uncomfortable talk to me? I've found a lot of people set children up to be abused and metaphorically speaking feed them to the wolves (even though wolves tend to take care of human babies well. No offense to wolves ;) )

Absolutely no reason that you shouldn't take your kids concerns as being truthful. Kids don't make shit like this up. Don't ever let your baby see a dr alone...EVER. My child is a gymnast, and under no circumstances would he ever be in a room alone with a coach, doctor, trainer, physical therapist, whatever the f*** they wanna title them selves as, without me or dad. And if they get upset or try to reprimand you or your child, you look into it with everything you have...cause something is not right.

I really hope all parents in the world watch this and see this so when their child comes to them and tells them the most DIFFICULT and physically sickening acts of whats happened to them, they wont make this critical mistake. Thank god Krista found the strength within her at such an age to move on because when a parent doesnt believe you when you tell them something horrific has just happened to you it is such a blow. You can see the extreme guilt this mother is feeling and rightly so but she does deserve forgiveness and if you see her daughter has forgiven her so should we but let it serve as a lesson to all parents. ALWAYS stand up for your child and for whats right because in moments like these they need you the most. Children need their parents the most.

I’m so glad my mother believed me when I came to her. I was only 7 but she believed me then did something about it. My wish is for all children to have this experience with their parent or teacher or person they confide in. This is a struggle these young women will have for the rest of their lives, sadly.

candy cane your sister may be a rare victim. I praise her for having the coping skills that enable her to move on. Do not be naive to think that every victim has suffered the same abuse or has the tenacity to move beyond it. Perpetrators eventually get released, the victim’s memory of the abuse never goes away.

Hey . Well, I´ve been putting this into perspective and we just can´t jump into simple conclusions like "Parents should have know"... i mean, its easy to think logically like that but there are lots of factors here like: This guy was in such a high pedestal, and those kids were moving in such a high competitive environment. That by the end of the day you even question yourself into thinking that you´re the one that is wrong by just thinking that such a famous "professional" is doing something wrong, it might have looked weird but the end someone on a high category in the university or the Olympic team would have told you that it´s normal, that he is the miracle guy, that you´re no doctor and he know what he´s doing and he is being doing it for the last 20+ years .. Many of us don´t even know the pain and effort Olympic athletes has to go through, that is just a different world, those kids don´t have normal lives, they just train and train and try to reach the top of what they bodies can give, and this guy was supposedly to be the magical trusted doctor, that would help them reach their dreams. Also the guy was a mastermind grooming the kids, their families and colleges. so as you can see, some cases and situations are not that evident if you don´t add the whole ingredients to the recipe

How can a mother not believe when her daughter says i've been abused? Only because the sister didn't? What the fuck? What's even the logic of that? She deserve every tear she's shedding and all the guilt she's feeling and she'll feel for the rest of her life. Poor girl. Betrayed first by her doctor and then by her mother. What a shame.

I feel sorry for her, we are thought at an early age that when someone touch us in our private parts we should tell an adult and that should be her parents or atleast the mother... but her dismissive mother downplayed what she said just because her sister doesn't talk about any, even to investigate asap... I know I'm also not a perfect mom but her mom is unbelievable. I applaud her courageousness and loving heart that she forgiven her mother, the one that should have protected and fight for her.

Crocodile tears or not, I have no sympathy for the mother. She deliberately betrayed her own daughter by disbelieving her and for refusing to protect her from a sexual predictor. Now I understand that reality can be very unspeakable. I know some people are very scared to accept the most evil things that happen to anyone. But it's no excuse for any parent to be in total denial. You see, it's a parent's job to protect and support their children. If a parent fails their children by disbelieving them, then the parent has no business being a parent. Even if a parent suddenly decides to believe their children, some children cannot easily forgive their parents because their denial has done a million times worse of damage than the abuser has.
