Mother + Daughter Live Full Time In Custom DIY Van Converted from a Fire Department Step Van.

Meg and Molly and their two cats and one dog live full time in a Van tiny house that they built from a montreal fire department utility truck, They have been traveling north america for the past 2 years and have only recently settled down in Tofino BC (still in the Van) so that Molly could go to school. Meg got interested in Vanlife through friends and seeing adventurous people on instagram living the lifestyle. It dawned her that just because she is a single mom does not mean that she has to be shackled to a normal life where she worked to pay rent and was unable to save money for the future. Meg built the van out herself with some help for the solar and plumbing, she used to have a cubic mini wood stove in the van but found that the wood cut in to her fuel economy and found that it was too much of a hassle, so she decided to just chase the sun instead. @@lorisanford8515 It never ceases to amaze me that people can watch such an inspirational video by an intelligent well balanced woman explaining their lifestyle and how their vehicle works and it's limitations, then when you read the comments you get about 10 people who all nèver pay attention and they all ask the following questions:- 1. How do you earn a living whilst on the road ? 2. Where do you Poop ? 3. Where do you shower ? All this despite the woman explaining she has a cat litter tray in the garage so that the cats can have a dump in privacy without the smell nuking the whole van !!

Let's talk bout fresh air for a second. I can tell u from experience dwelling in a low volume space with elevated humidity the smell factor goes up add some amazing pets and it gets gross.

Through the video you can feel the comfort of this home. It’s so nice! I wish this had been a thing when I was a young single mom 30 years ago. I’m older now retired. But I want a home like this so bad. For my husband and I and our pets. I want it so we can go visit our daughter who lives in another state. This mom has done an amazing job with this home. Love this! I remember her old set up and this seems to suit them so much better. One thing about “van lifers” (of which I hope to be in the near future) is their ability to adapt and keep going. Respecting her daughter and giving her what she needed while still living the life she herself longed for is good parenting and a lesson in adaptability. Thanks for the video!

As a mother, I love what you are doing for you and your daughter never give up I watch this a lot and they have this portable shower it’s round and you just pop it up like a yo-yo shower get dry and you drain the water right out the door with a hose. So encouraged by your journey. We have been almost 4 years in a self-converted Sprinter van. One of the hardest things was getting rid of all the "stuff". We still have "stuff" from the previous house in storage, long story, we're caring for 93 and 95yo parents, so "one day" we will go through all the stored stuff and eliminate more. We LOVE your home. Great van set up! Mother has a beautiful energy. Her child will benefit. I can totally relate regarding savings. I live out of my Prius since July 14, 2019. I left my apartment with $41,000 saved, and I put away about $1000 per month, and I have just made it beyond the $100,000 mark. Savings will come. It requires simplicity, focus and discipline. What a great video, and what a lovely human being!

I'm a single mom too, and when my daughter was 11 we lived in Alaska. To beat the rent crunch I moved us into a travel trailer. It was brutal, and just hearing the rain in your video brought it all back vividly. I bailed in less than a month and now I wish I'd stuck it out like you and your daughter have. Your strong and positive attitude is amazing!

You could make a shower, there's lots of Van builds with showers, I've never seen a washer or dryer in one but I suspect you could probably put one of those washer dryer combos in one

Tracy Cook You can find/ make a van with a shower and there are laundromats everywhere, just google them. I drive a truck and once I parked at a receiver in California overnight and needed a shower cause it had been a couple days. Lol! I dropped the trailer where I was, drove to the store,got 5 gallons of water, went back to my trailer and parked sideways and proceeded to take a "shower". You can do ANYTHING that you want to, it just comes down to how much you want it. Research and ask questions in all these forums that you can find. Don't let fear rule you!! I wish you luck! 🙂

What a fantastic mom and person! This is easily my favorite video. I really really want this too. I have been trying to live out of my bedroom to learn how to store stuff and downsize. As practiced. We live in a one bedroom, but still have too much stuff. But we both want this and at some point it will be just me.. money is the issue to buy something or to make something happen. But listening to you, showed me where there is a will there is a way. I love your rig! It is so cozy! The rain is beautiful and the sound! I want this bad! I am entertaining a 5th wheel, a van, and a schoolie. Or and RV. Tiny homes have become too expensive now. But still options. I loved your video. I know it will be hard to get there.

Yep love how this interview was done. Very relaxed and loved the patter of the rain as thats part of real life. And the camera shots of the homeliness of the van, of the pets and arty knicknacks. Really well put together as the van owner talks and the video pans around so you get a glimpse of someones life and living simple with out the crushing have to have all the materialistic bells and whistles. That are just a ball and chain to ourselves. Simple and happy is a good alternative.

I first saw her video in Seven wonders of the world Chanel and I wanted to hear more about her and Molly. I'm so happy for this video. I also want to convert a Step Van so this gives wonderful ideas but the thing that got to me most is her story. I can relate to her on many things. Very very inspiring. She is obviously an amazing, caring mother. Really gives me hope that this is a possible lifestyle. THANKS Meg!!!
